Rant Quick story of today

Sorry not as quick as I thought - got locked in on the rant 😂😂

Huge storm swept by yesterday that was pretty intense. Lighting hit super close to my customers property - they get an error 91 on the thermostat for loss of communication. Okay perfect hopefully just a quick breaker reset.

Turn each breaker off waited 10-15 minutes, flipped the air handler breaker on first, then the condenser. No luck.

Tested VDC at the air handler 12vdc - excellent, behind the thermostat 12vdc - excellent, took low voltage apart outside and tested it and got 12 vdc - excellent, connected it back up and immediately loss 12vdc and nothing coming out of the control board. Perfect, quick and easy - let me order them a new board.

Part #: CNT06103
Condenser Model: 4TWZ0048A1000AA

Well, Trane decided they were gonna discontinue that part with no back up parts as of 07/23/2026. I called Trane, American Standard, look at online supply houses - even fucking eBay out of curiosity.

Absolutely none anywhere. Which left me having to give an estimate. Really shitty feeling knowing you’re trying but due to manufacturing decisions makes you just feel bad in a way.

Make a backup board, shit make a 24v harness so I can make it non communicating. Something to help this old couple out.

End of the day, I brought them a portable and provided them options. Come on Trane…

Field Question, trade people only Which veto for my load out?

Have a klein tech backpack. It was great until it ripped at the seams. Which veto bag would you recommend based on my daily tool layout? I like pockets and I do a lot of chiller work so I’ll occasionally add other tools when needed.

Field Question, trade people only Daikin VRV, multiple ceiling cassettes won't come out of fan mode and go into cooling

Post image

What the title says. Only these four, off two different branch boxes, won't cool, all others work. Through the service checker software I can try to force them into cool mode but they revert back to fan only within 10 seconds. No error codes. All other cassettes are working fine. Central controller doesn't even give an option to set temps for heating or cooling. Room controllers are Alerton, not Daikin BRCs. Could really use some help.

General Universal motors are not always the answer.

Customer went the cheap route and had a company install a universal motor when I told him it needs OEM. Universal works like 90% of the time. This was not one of those cases.

Trying calibrate the vanes on a 19xr retrofit.
Carrier is being their usual unhelpful selves.
Waiting on a password from the carrier smart service tech support and for a call from carrier tech support. Haven't dealt with these new panels yet. Any help?

Field Question, trade people only First day of install

Hey guys. Today was my very first day of working as an residential installer. I’m a helper and I’m trying to figure out why my body feels the way it does. I’m super green at all this but it’s been a fun first day and can’t wait for tmrw

I started my day at 0800 and spent until 11:30 just getting parts. First thing we did was install a brand new unit and I was sweating in places I didn’t know had sweat glands. Second job was putting in insulation. I was in charge of feeding the blower until we ran out. Afterwords was a third job checking some sort of thing to get it to turn on, I can’t remember the name of it.

I get home and I’m itching everywhere from the fiberglass and take a Cold shower like my dad said to (he’s done HVAC 40 Years) but I don’t think I got it all out cause I’m still itchy.

Anyway I’m laying in bed typing this and I can’t get comfortable. The inside of my body feels really warm and I’m EXAUSTED even tho I really only worked 4 hours. Can anyone tell me why I feel like this and grant some advice on how to fix for the upcoming days before the weekend?

TLDR; I’m tryna figure out why my body feels warm inside and why I can’t get comfortable or sleep even though I’m exhausted inside.

For those wondering why we did 3 jobs in 4 hours, I get paid per job, our company is all of 4 people.

Rant Some customers are not from this world.

Got some good people, repeat customers that really planned for their kids future. He’s a little slow and they have set him up for life. Even though he sports 1/2 fu Manchu. He wasn’t the reason for the call. The air b&b guest were. So the complaint,, the cloths dryer takes more than 5 minutes to dry clothes… on what planet does that happen! Now I have people who have never done laundry before but they wouldn’t rent a 600sq ft bungalow. I just don’t know.

General Anybody else been finding a lot of these lately inside the box of refrigerant? I think it’s the cap for the hose connection that they put on there before painting it to keep it clean. But suddenly I’m finding a lot of them inside the boxes like they got a new guy on the paint line.

Field Question, trade people only Restricted coil?

Okay, going to try and make a long story short. Have a newish Ruud 454b condenser and coil on an older American standard furnace. Only about 15’ long lineset. Previous tech condemned indoor txv. Said it was freezing up and had high SH SC. They sent me back to replace it. So I remove the valve, blow lines out, get everything hooked up and then pulled a good vac. While vacs running I check airflow static’s (our installers are famous for not changing airflow) and find it’s set to low speed and only moving about 317 per ton. (3 ton system). I get airflow dialed and start up system. Looks overcharged. High SC low SH high head. Remove charge. Get pressures and SC dialed in but could not get delta T over 12 degrees. Try a bunch of stuff and then give in to call tech support. They told me raise the CFM to 420 per ton and then it will lower my pressures and I can add more gas and delta should come up. Okay do that, get numbers back close, still crappy split. I should have done a coil frost test because I’m now wondering if the coil for some reason is restricted or insufficient capacity in some way. This was 6:30 pm on a Friday and I was on call. Told them I’d be back Monday with an empty recovery cyclinder to weigh out charge and do coil frost test. They called our OT service earlier today to say it had frozen up. (Not sure why as I left it with a low delta but pressures looked okay and nowhere near freezing. I watched it/adjusted charge for over 2 hours and it never dipped or did anything crazy on me. Any other ideas ?
To mention the txv is not adjustable. The bulb is insulated and strapped well.

Field Question, trade people only Where to find charging charts with unit model #?

Long story short took a pic of unit data plate, never took electrical panel off, now I'm home.

Anywhere y'all know of to find a model's charging chart online?
