The school voucher program in our state just doesn’t make sense.

It hemorrhages our tax dollars from our public schools that serve all children, regardless of socioeconomic status or disability, and funnels into private school that have no public oversight.

If elected this November I will fight to at minimum add an income cap to the school voucher program (currently you can literally be a billionaire and still get a private school coupon with our tax money) and at best remove this program entirely.

In a new investigation, IndyStar reporter Kristine Phillips found that before Indiana expanded immigration detention at Miami Correctional Facility, the state stopped penalizing its private prison health care contractor, Centurion Health, for failing to meet staffing requirements. From 2022 through 2025, Centurion was assessed roughly $21 million in staffing-related penalties, but those penalties were eliminated shortly before the prison began housing hundreds of ICE detainees.

State officials said the change was intended to save money by avoiding higher per-inmate costs. However, records reviewed by Phillips show state payments to Centurion still increased significantly, rising from $153 million in fiscal year 2025 to $181 million in fiscal year 2026.

According to the investigation, staffing concerns intensified after ICE detainees arrived at Miami Correctional Facility in late 2025. Nurses described growing medical backlogs, chronic staffing shortages and concerns that detainees and inmates were not receiving timely care. Former employees and detainees told IndyStar the system was struggling to keep up with demand.

Phillips' reporting also found that inadequate staffing and delays in medical treatment may have contributed to the deaths of two ICE detainees, Lorth Sim and Tuan Van Bui, citing accounts from a family attorney, detainees and a former nurse. Both men died in 2026 while being held at the facility.

Miami Correctional Facility, which can house up to 1,000 immigration detainees under Indiana's agreement with federal authorities, has faced mounting scrutiny over medical care, staffing levels and oversight. The deaths have prompted calls for further investigation and greater transparency from advocates and elected officials.

Colin Campbell, 43, of Bloomington, Indiana, has been missing for almost 60 days.

Colin has been missing since July 7, 2026.

According to Life360 data, he was on East Pointe Rd at 7:53 a.m before the battery died or phone shut-off. East Pointe Road is within walking distance of his condominium.

A pair of Colins sweatpants with his earbuds & nicotine gum in the pockets were found on the rock bank here.

Colins vehicle was parked at his condo with his fishing gear inside. His front door was unlocked. Inside the residence were his keys, wallet, and his cat.

There has been no confirmed sightings or information that has led to his whereabouts.

Colin’s birthday recently passed. We asked many Bloomington businesses to hang his flyer on this day. It was disappointing to see so many of them leave us on read. 💔

I’m really considering moving out to Indiana for PA school (from Ohio) because I was so impressed with Indiana State’s PA program after I interviewed. I also have an interview scheduled for Butler, but besides its national ranking, I wasn’t too impressed by its on-campus assets. I know Butler is more prestigious and may provide a leg up on grabbing a good job out of college, but it doesn’t have cadaver labs or hospital simulation labs…not to mention the tuition difference is MASSIVE!!! I haven’t even gotten acceptances for either yet so I’m definitely getting way ahead of myself, but in the wild case that I get accepted to both schools, which one do you recommend for a Physician Assistant student? Thanks!!

At approximately 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, a Columbus man, suspected of operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, was stopped at the SR 7N and Hwy. 50 bypass near Casey’s. During the encounter, officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and the driver was asked to exit.

During the probable cause search of the vehicle, officers found marijuana and placed the driver, David Axsom, 66, of Columbus, under arrest. After further search of the vehicle, methamphetamine was found next to Axsom where he had attempted to conceal it.

While yet a further search of the vehicle, a homemade explosive device was discovered. At that time, SR 7N was closed as a precaution to ensure the safety of the public.

The Indiana State Police and Columbus Police Department Bomb Squad were summoned to the scene and bomb squad personnel safely disposed of the device. The highway remained closed until approximately 7 p.m. Monday.

Axsom was booked into the Jennings County jail on the following preliminary charges: prohibited possession of a handgun (A-misdemeanor), possession of marijuana (A-misdemeanor), possession of methamphetamine (level 6 felony), possession of a destructive device (level 6 felony), and trafficking into a penal facility (level 5 felony).

Police officers obtained a search warrant for Axsom’s residence in Columbus, which, according to a police department spokesman, led to three more charges.

The North Vernon Police Department wants to extend their sincere appreciation to the Indiana State Police, Columbus Police Department, Jennings County Sheriff’s Office, North Vernon Fire Department, and the reserve officers with the department. “We are grateful for the quick response and cooperation of all agencies involved in keeping our community safe.”

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

So for a bit of context in July my landlord either sold or went bankrupt (I was never properly informed on which) and to the best of my knowledge the property went back to the previous landlord, whos represented by a realty company. My lease for my apartment had also expired in July, but I was told by the realty company we'll sign a new one, which never happened.

Last week I found my apartment had been cut off from power and water. After speaking to my local health department about it I found out it was because the landlord did not want me there anymore and decided to cut these off in an attempt to make me leave.

Since then various people have told me I should sue, but I was never fully on board with the idea cause what was I gonna do? Sue to get out of an expired lease? Sue for the $50 of spoiled food in my fridge?

But the more I've debated on the subject I've realized just how much stress this sudden move is costing me. Doesnt help I only get paid every other week and most likely cant find a place to move to for some time. Would all of this, in your honest opinion, be worth taking to court or at the very least small claims court?

So a private Chevy Suburban hit me while trying to get to the shoulder. It was a private emergency car. They didn’t stop. If anyone in the northwest Indiana recognizes the company as a possibility please respond. I’ve attached photos. They are super blurry.

The board approved $26.9 million for 499 projects across the state. Nearly $20 million of that funding will support 332 projects involving school resource officers and law enforcement officers.

For those in District 24 (parts of Carmel, Westfield, Zionsville, and Sheridan), what’s the thinking about this race? We’ve been living with a Republican super majority for years, and Hunter just seems to be a willing follower of the party machine. I couldn’t tell you anything he’s done in his first term, aside from saying he was against redistricting before ultimately voting for it. (Which, again, was simply going along with the party’s wishes.)

Racheal seems to offer a real alternative, but is she trying to thread a needle? She’s quick to talk about her past as a Republican while explaining what moved her to the Democratic side. Does this give her credibility with conservative-leaning independents while still appealing to the base D voters? Or does her R past hurt her with the base while the D next to her name on the ballot works against her for Central Indiana independents?

It seems to be a bit of a tightrope she has to walk, and I’m curious if people think she’ll be able to pull out a win or if there are too many people in this area who will reflexively vote for the Republican even though he has no accomplishments to run on from his first term.

What's everyone's must-do from this list?

I have a friend who applied for a position at a local store that does drug screening tests for employment that includes THC in the test. He was denied employment, and in this case, before even being interviewed.

Given that IN is surrounded by legalized states, it almost seems like it ought to be unconstitutional to filter candidates with THC tests.

Yeah, I get it...a private employer can do and filter whoever they want. Got it.

But the problem is that there is no way to know when or where the THC became present in the blood.

If you smoke/imbibe in THC in legal states, the THC that is in your blood from 2 weeks ago shouldn't be able to be used against you.

I know it's not illegal. But it ought to be stopped as a means of filtering out the supposed drug users who may or may not consume a drug that is legal in ALL the surrounding states.

A few years back, state of Indiana widened 47S at county road 200s for Ironman Raceway track. They added a left turn lane for Purple Heart Pkwy and right turn lane for 200s, which was used for the track. They installed a huge sign at the intersection: Ironman Raceway on bottom, Tom's Marine on top. Well, a couple years back, the Ironman part of the sign was covered and I assumed they had closed.

I had to head south this past weekend, and there was a major event going on at the track, so obviously, it is still open. BUT, the city of Crawfordsville had closed 200s with signs AND parked a couple of cops there to make sure nobody used 200s. People wanting to attend had to use 150s.

So, I'm wondering what happened? If the track is still open and used, why is the sign covered and why does the city close the road to try and prevent access?
