Rust Check? Too much rust? Not enough rust? Ask Here!
Hi All,
We are going to try to consolidate the pre purchase or otherwise rust inquires asking if a rig has too much rust and how to approach it as far as shopping for a new to you truck and beyond.
We have a lot of these threads where people are asking the same questions and rather than have each thread die on the vine as far as useful information goes, by having them all right here in one thread, people can use it as a catalog or guide for what to look for and if people are willing to share sold or bought prices for each truck that we are inspecting, we can all use this as a tool to gauge the market and also the wide variety of condition that all generations of Land Cruisers are in at any given point in time.

Proud Owner of a 2026 LC250 Prado in Honduras
Great Vehicle but with a hefty price, $101,500 including taxes and all registration fees. I Love it. I’ve had the US spec Land Cruiser but 2.4 Iforce max doesn’t compare a Diesel engine. Once you drive a Diesel you won’t go back to a gas engine.
A few upgrades,
- Changed the horn to a Toyota Premium horn.
- Hood struts.
- Front and rear camera.
- Illuminated door sills.
- Weathertech, front, second and third row heavy duty mats.

Sand time in the Prado
I took my 2025 TJH250 to the Sand Lakes OHV area in Oregon, USA, and got to really put it through the paces in a sand and dunes environment. My Dobinsons IMS suspension setup isn’t the best for this use case but the vehicle performed fantastically.

Beach day again
Nice 100 degree day to go out and explore an old buried town. Lake is down to 20% volume so the old town is visible.
Of course someone got stuck so 70 series to the rescue. Zero tow points on the ford so I used the 8274 and strap around the ball hitch.

06’ LC100 intake manifold question
Hey everyone, I’m having a new 2UZ-FE put in my 100 series and my mechanic says that my intake manifold is rough and wants to replace it. He tried to clean it up but he’s concerned with what the inner mechanics looks like based on what’s accumulated around the valves. Does this look bad? I’m just not knowledgeable enough to make a decision and a new one is $1400. Thanks!

Heavy wear on steering wheel- 2016 LC200
I purchased this LC200 a few months ago with 92K miles. In my research it seems like a known issue with the dot3 steering wheels and some people suspect hand sanitizer or other lotions/sunscreens accelerate leather damage. It seems like the early dot3s have the most issues.
I just ordered a replacement OEM wheel, part# 45100-60760-C3. For those who have replaced these steering wheels, has Toyota made improvements so the leather doesn’t degrade as fast? I’m hoping Toyota acted on feedback and Kaizen’d this and it’s no longer an issue. Appreciate replies from people who have replaced their own steering wheels.
BTW… in the US, parts are 15% off now until 9/7 on TPCO.

How much vibration is normal FJ60 at cruising speeds
I’ve been interested in a FJ with a 5 speed for a while, and I just went to look at one yesterday. I loved the feel of it between 1-3 gear (though, not going to lie, taking off on a hill in rush hour got my blood pressure up). But when we got up to cruising speeds (~45-55 mph), the engine was much louder than expected and everything was vibrating pretty rough. For example, I couldn’t see well out of the side mirrors from the shaking.
This truck has nearly 500k on it with an engine rebuild around 380k. So maybe that’s the issue and I’ll get someone to look at it. But I guess I expected less shake at speeds for rolling around town. Maybe I need to reset my expectations?

80 Series
Stunning condition 80 series that my father got recently. We were looking for many months to find one for him and a few times we saw one it sold too quickly.
Eventually he stumbled upon this one and pulled the trigger. Triple locked turbo diesel.

ProspeedRack
Has anyone purchased from this company before? I have tried Sherpa and Prinsu on my other rigs and now I was planning on supporting a smaller operation with a sleek rack design. About a month ago I received an email saying the rack is “almost ready”.
Well it’s been over the 5-7 week lead estimate and now I’m kinda just biting the bullet to see if it ever comes through. I’ve read in several other threads that others with a May delivery date are still waiting. (and haven’t received communication with the company after reaching out about an order update). I think it might be time to pull the money out and get a rack that can make it within the same week ordered. Thoughts?

Snugging up oil pump cover screws before taking the whole thing apart?
80/1fzfe, been putting this job off for awhile but have now seen two tutorial videos where the person gets onto the screws with the balancer pulley already off and notices that they’re basically finger tight. Anyone experienced this themselves? Worth going in there with a proper JIS bit and trying to snug them up before blasting the whole thing apart? Can’t find any record of the gasket being replaced by a previous owner so it may definitely be original to ‘94

Any ideas about this mess?

Driver side 1fzfe, seems like a valve cover gasket but Toyota did the job for the previous owner in 2023. I did the distributor o-ring and oil pressure sender, oil pump cover gasket is on the list. Looked in the bell housing inspection window and it’s bone dry, which is a good indication that the rms is decent? Drives good, running rotella T4. Thanks in advance 🫡🫡

3fe FJ80 1991
New to me fj80 with around 210k miles on it. Did all the preventative maintenance, egr delete, got a cheap temu front bumper. Trying to make it my weekend off-roader.
Just did a seafoam clean in the fuel tank and it’s running better than ever.
Next up got a 2.5 inch ironman lift and will try to get a nice roof rack and work on some seals for leaks underneath.
Happy with the purchase and the journey I have been with the 3 month ownership. Learnt a lot about being a DIY mechanic for the first time. I will say this its the best investment money and time wise I ever made.
List anything u guys did to your 91 fj80 that helped you keeping it healthy.
