I don’t think it will crash, but it’s gonna be a huge concern that will need looking after. I’d say 10 years ago, it could be handled ok, but now, it’s going to be somewhat overwhelming. The systems and people put in place to assure safe food, have been stripped. Folks selling stuff on their own is cool and all, but I feel a majority of sellers will not adhere to the Food Code. Or will get lazy over time and eventually lead to foodborne illnesses. I see these videos of people selling various beef, but I notice it’s all just laid out in the open, is that just for the photo op, or has been sitting out longer then it should, as an example. I’ve inspected countless home kitchens selling food, and at 1/3 of them, I found unfit for selling, and at least half of them with major food code concerns. These concerns were corrected, but until I was sent to do that inspection, they’ve been doing it wrong for awhile. Honestly, it’s overwhelming and it gets my inspector hackles up, that there are gonna be a huge amount of home sellers, and not enough inspectors. Also working out of their home instead of a maintained food facility.

Food Safety and our health and safety is definitely at risk, and currently run by people that don’t see it that way. Who also choose to drink raw milk to show off.

I think the export market could crash if standards cannot be maintained. It's not feasible for a buyer to test everything from the USA, but that's currently acceptable because there is high confidence in US standards enforcement.

If that confidence is lost, the USA could find itself excluded from export markets in a matter of days. E.g food safety is taken very seriously in the EU. They will have no hesitation banning everything from the USA if it can't meet standards.

As for the speculation about what the effects could be, one effect of losing export markets is that domestic producers will have to sell everything domestically. I imagine that would put a downward pressure on domestic pricing, which isn't a bad thing for customers. But if the pressure is so much that producers can't stay in business, that's a lot better for the oligarchy class who are buying up farmland at an alarming rate.

This is the craziest thing to me. I was raised Christian (school, church, camps, etc) and bought into it until my early 20s. Became a science major and it all started to unravel. I've done a lot of study into secular Biblical scholarship and it's just so obvious how made up it all is. Now we've got space programs, tons of atomic and quantum understanding, detailed evolution models, DNA editing capabilities, etc and to think that people are still hung up on 2000+ year old nonsense is insane. Of course its all polished and pushed as noble and righteous but when you think about how all 3 major Abrahamic religions are really just worshipping one of the several made up gods of the ancient Canaanites it really sets in because when we think of worshipping Apollo or Thor it's automatically seen as a fairytale. This shit is absolutely zero difference though.

This isn't particularly realistic. Sure.... SOME farmers process their own meats.... in small quantities... for a limited market.

But the size of the American meat market is much, much larger than the average person might imagine.

Quick google search nets the average number of animals consumed in the US PER DAY...

The estimates are that

Americans eat between 80 and 90 thousand cows worth of beef (Per DAY)

Americans eat around 70 thousand pigs worth of bacon (Per DAY)

and we eat around 22 - 25 MILLION chickens (Per DAY)

Small farms just aren't going to be able to process that much... especially in addition to the animal husbandry and food production from other sources.

I'm gonna sound like I'm defending the meat packers, and I really don't mean to.

First off, the big 4 aren't all from the USA. 2 are Brazilian and the other 2 are American.

It's really not that much of a monopoly either. There are a ton of processing plants. Im in charge of all meat and Seafood departments for a large grocery chain. It's incredibly easy to avoid the "big 4" and we purposely do.

I just don't consider this a monopoly. Let's tackle ticketing agencies, credit cards, oil companies, and airlines. Those are the real monopolies. The "big 4" actually drive the price down.

Meat processors are losing a ton of money each day. Most can adapt by reducing staffing and running 1 or 2 shifts instead of 3. Most of the plant closures you hear about are from the "big 4" as they are just consolidating. They are just waiting to be profitable again, and it looks like we're about 32 months away from that.
