Error code with turbocharger
Hi there. I’d appreciate some help on this topic.
Over the last couple months I’ve been getting these error codes on my Peugeot 208 2014 1.4 HDI.
P1497: Turbocharger: Position Incorrect Relative To Requirement, Not Enough Turbo (Service)
P0299: Charge Pressure Regulation: Air Pressure Below The Reference Value
P2562: Turbocharger: Position Incorrect Relative To Requirement, Not Enough Turbo
The codes put the car into limp mode.
- The codes appear randomly ever couple of days, they could appear as soon as I lift the clutch up or 30 minutes into a motorway journey with cruise control on
- The codes disappear if I don’t drive the car for approx 16 hours
- The codes are intermittent and have increased in frequency over the last few days
I’m really stuck on how to fix this and since it’s an intermittent fault that’s unspecific mechanics aren’t really useful.
I’ve looked online and it could be an error due to the turbo manifold pressure sensor or the turbocharger acutator position sensor?
I’d appreciate any advice.

Known issue!
It’s ether the turbo electro valve or the turbo position sensor/vaccum valve.
There is a very small chance oil has got into the rubber vacuum pipes and swollen them so check them first!

i mean from research i’ve got 4 items in mind
Turbo boost pressure solenoid valve
turbocharger acutator
tubo acutator position sensor
turbo manifold pressure sensor
and it could still also be an issue with the pipes
what item should i opt to replace first rather than replacing them all and not needing 3/4 of them
and if i order a new acutator will it come with a new sensor or are those two things completely separate

Got the exact same car + engine, same year.
I'd swap the electrovalve first really, it's probably the part that's failing. Especially with the age of your car (if the electrovalve has never been replaced before) and the fact that the errors go away when you let the car cool down for a long time. And it's usually cheap to acquire.
The electrovalve is basically a plastic part with a shitty rubber seal inside and when it starts failing (rubber seal gets damaged, spring mechanism starts to get grippy or the electronic part starts to get faulty) it usually gets worse with heat as the whole thing starts dilating. Add to that that on the 208 1.4 HDI's that part is located right behind the radiator so it lives in a pretty hot area of the engine bay.
What mileage has the car? Pipes could also be damaged but that wouldn't be my first bet.
If you intend to DIY it's pretty easy to do, but you might need to get the ECU to learn the new part using the Diagbox (Peugeot's diagnostic tool). It might be a worthwhile investment if you intend on keeping the car running as long as possible.
I've done turbo repairs on many HDI's so feel free to ask.

Hi there mate thanks for the reply.
It has 106k miles on it.
How would I know if the problem is the electrovalve or the actuator? I’ll have to give my car to a mechanic as I do not possess the tools to DIY it nor do I have the confidence lol. I could buy both the actuator and the electrovalve and replace them.

So basically: the electrovalve controls the actuator using a vacuum system. When the engine needs boost, the ECU will command the electrovalve to provide a certain amount of vacuum in its output pipe, which will pull back the actuator (a metal rod connected to the wastegate inside the turbo, pulling on the rod closes it completely giving the engine full boost) through aspiration. Under the rod is the position sensor: it's a simple potentiometer that communicates the actual physical position of the actuator back to the ECU.
P1497 & P0299 are just generic codes telling us the engine isn't receiving enough boost when it should
P2562 tells us there is discrepancy between the actual physical position of the actuator and the one that's expected, which means the electrovalve isn't providing enough vacuum to pull the actuator, or there is a leak in one of the vacuum pipes (vacuum pump to electrovalve, or electrovalve to actuator), or the engine's vacuum pump is failing but you would have other symptoms.
When the position sensor fails electronically you get the P2564, which you don't have. It could still mean the sensor is electrically sound but faulty or physically broken but I doubt it.
At that age + mileage it's probably the electrovalve. On my car the original part failed two years ago at 190k KM (~120k miles).
Just get a diagnostic done at a mechanic honestly, and get some quotes, you can probably get this done for pretty cheap, just be careful as some might want to replace the whole turbocharger, which is obviously unnecessary.

Thanks for the advice brother. I’ll order an electrovalve and get a mechanic to replace it. I’ll get back to you next week if it worked or not.

Don’t order a Chinese non genuine one they always have problems with the sensor.
It’s a 20 mins job to change!
