Discussion Mega Man X6 on the legacy collection lets you acquire 9999 for X and Zero

And lets you refight Dynamo and acquire more Nightmares from Noodlemen. You just have to enter levels that are experiencing Nightmare Mode (red) and they'll reappear.

Discussion because wanted everyone to know since everyone shits on this game constantly and thinks it's impossible.

X6 is a fantastic game and one of the best X games.

Discussion A (hopefully) complete list of all female bosses in the megaman series:

Upvotes

Now that we have Twinkle Girl (should really have been Twinkle Woman smh.), how bout a respective on the history of girlbosses in the MM series

Classic Series

Confirmed Girlbosses:

Splash Woman from MM9. Obviously.

While Playing as Roll in Powered Up, the Copy Robot boss in wily stage 3 will be a fake Roll. Her dialogue seems to imply Roll has a crush on Rock so i think we'd better not count this one.

And Twinkle Woman Girl as the newest entry in the upcoming DO. Everyone's assuming she'll be the only one but who knows, might be more

Not girlbosses:

Due to their voices, some people did get mistaken to the gender of Clown man and Aqua man... despite their names. But they're both male

Jewelman in his concept art is humoursly called an 'Okama', meaning a travestite. He's still identified as Male regardless

Hornet man was originally conceptualized as a female bee-themed bot called Honey Woman, but that was dropped in favour of Splash woman. Interestingly, Splash woman was originally a male robot called Ocean Man, showing they acutlaly did have a maximum quota of one girl per game, for some reason...
The concept of Honey Woman was reused for Vesper Woman in the archie comics (RIP)

Terra and Venus both are female names, but both of the Staroids are male regardless.

Maybe Girlbosses?:

The first boss of Cossack Citadel in MM4, Mothraya, is based on The female Kaiju Mothra. So it might be female.

Girlbosses who don't count:

A plot twist in the RM6 Manga reveals Centaur Man is acutally a woman in disguise, pretending to be male to enter the tournament. There is no indication this is canon to the actual games; and is only present in that one adaption.

Rockman Strategy features bosses based on the Zodiac. While Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpion, Capricorn and Pisces are considered female constellations, the only robots that seem to be design as feminine are Virgo (whose lore acutally is ambighous about weather it's a female robot, a male robot with a feminine appearance, or maybe even a transgender robot) and Gemini (who appears to be half-male half-female). Luna is also a female figure. None of that matters tho cause that game is a licensed title and counts as much as the DOS games do (they don't)

Rose, C. Viper and Chun Li are featured as bosses in Street Fighter x Mega Man.

There's also at least one female robot master in the pachinko game.

X Series

Confirmed Girlbosses:

Berkana is the final boss of the X story of Xtreme 2... in normal mode, in hard mode Sigma shows up as is expected

Iris, using a ride-armor esque body after absorbing Colonel's residual energy, is the boss for the Final Weapon stage 2 in the Zero mode of MMX4

Illumina, the giant robot you fight in Infinity Mijinion's stage in X6, is called a She by her creator, Mijinon.

Ferham is one of the Cadres of the Rebellion in Command Mission. She's evil and has a whip, and thus became very popular in the fanbase.

Rafflesian is a secret boss in Command Mission. She's a female reploid based on a rafflessia flower, and has two female minions called 'Belladona' to aid in battle. Defeating her is needed to unlock the Ultimate Armor for X

Pallette. Yes Pallette. She's a seasonal event boss in XDiVE.

Not girlbosses:

Wire Sponge is male. IDK when or where but i did see him being called a girl at one point so i'm putting it here

The X hunters from MMX2 were originally conceived as a quarted, featuring the Tall guy, the Short guy, The big guy, and the Girl. Sadly due to memory constraints the Girl had to be dropped, with the final being only a trio

Despite being clearly based on a female insect, what with the giant sack of bombs that turn into smaller bug bots and all, Blast Hornet is male.

Axle the Red is sometimes mistaken as female due to his mannerisms, but he is a male reploid, his effeminate perosnality is acutally inspired by Jojo's Bizarre Adventure of all things.

Commander Yammark is consistently revered to as male in dialogue, his voice is also masculine. Dude can't have pretty eyelashes and people started misgendering him.

Lumine is refered to as male in all dialogue. his androgynous appearance, complete with a female VA in both dubs, is probably intentional, given he's satan and whatnot

Maybe Girlbosses?:

Nightmare Mother serves as the boss for the first Gate stage in MMX6. It's called Mother, which implies it being female... but it's literally a giant cube of nonsense, i doubt it has a gender.

Optic Sunflower:

I have no idea what's going on with that dude and frankly i don't think he does either.

Zero Series:

Confirmed Girlbosses:

Fairy Leviathan, one of the four guardians created based on X. Featured as a boss in Zero 1 and 2. She's a goddamn psycho.

The Mother elf/Dark Elf, who is fought as a boss in Zero 2 is identified as Female consistently

Sol Titanion is one of the Einhenhar Eight in Zero 4, being based on the Fairy Queen Titania, and is thus female.

Noble Mandrago is another one of the Einhenhar, and is also identified as female.

Not girlbosses:

Due to Toru Nakayama's artstyle, plus his voice; Plenty people mistook Harpuia as female, but he is just a skinny guy. Elpizo is on the same boat.

Despite a Necromancess being a female Necromancer, Anubis Necromancess is male. His japanese name 'Necromances' was probably misinterpreted by the translators.

Cubit Foxtar is based on the mythical kitsune, who'd often take on feminine forms in order to trick people, as such was designed with a feminine look, but is acutally identified as male.
While the English material does claim him to be female, the Z3 localizers didn't realize the japanese used the greek pronunciation of Cerberus and thus named a guy 'Kelverian' so i don't put much weight in that.

Maybe Girlbosses?:

Polar Kamrous, from Zero 2, is refered to as a female polar bear reploid in the English manual, but sounds and talks in a Masculine manner in the japanese version. Go figure

Crea and Prea are clones of Mother Elf, who is female, but due to always operating as a single entity, they're always refered with 'They', so you can't know for sure.

ZX Series:

Confirmed Girlbosses:

Lurerre the Abysroid is based on an anglefish, and male anglerfish are not the big cool creepy ones with the lure and the huge mouth, the devs were aware of this and thus made her into a female pseudoroid.

Hurricaune the Wolveroid is also refered to as female. kinda funny how the two female pseudoroids are the ones based on a female biometal and the one based on the androgynous one.

Queenbee the Hymenopteroid is naturally female, seeing as she's meant to be a queen bee carrying arround her beehive as a weapon... wait a second that's just robot vespiqueen

Hedgeshock the Erinaceroid is also a girl for some reason, even tho we already had a female model H user so we coulda gotten a model P female user instead but no, i guess Phantom is just sexist

Pandora is a girl, you fight her and her brother Prometheus in ZX and ZXA, they mostly operate as a single unit.

Aile is the female protagonist of ZX, and in ZXA you fight her as a boss fight with model ZX when you're playing Grey's story; Ashe's story has her fight the male protagonist Vent instead. The exact relationship between Aile and Vent in how they exist in canon is... not very elaborated upon, they might be twins of which only one survives in their backstory or they might be not.

Atlas is the model F Mega Man in ZXA; the term Mega Man is unissex in this series, she is a female, despite using the biomodel of a male reploid.

Not girlbosses:

Rospark the Floroid talks in an effeminate way and hates Ashe for being a girl while being very weirdly interested in Gray, some poeple might think that's cause he's a girl but no, he's just an old gay stereotype. The devs actually seem to have pulled a Knockout and made it so him acting in a camp gay stereotypical way is due to a technical fault in his AI's system, which is so out of touch it's lowkey funny imo.

Thetis, despite being named after a female nymph and using a female biomodel, is male. He's just cute, can't blame him. Seems like the discrepancy with him and Atlas was intentional since they're usually thogeder.

Aeolus is as androgynous as the guy whose powers he is stealing, but is confirmed a guy not a gal.

Legends Series:

Full disclosure i have not played any of the legends games so this is all straight from the wiki:

Confirmed Girlbosses:

Tron Bonne, middle sister of the bonne siblings, pilots a phew of the boss mechs from her family in both games. She's in marvel vs capcom i'm pretty sure

Sera from Legends 2 is female

There's a woman named Denise Marmalade in the wiki's category for bosses in the tron bonne spinoff.

Maybe Girlbosses?

Megaman Juno from Legends 1 looks kinda androgynous and is named after a female roman goddess; but the wiki uses male pronouns for him so i've no idea

Battle Network Series:

Confirmed Girlbosses:

Roll.EXE is shown as a netbattler in all games, but is only fought as a boss in BN4, where she's one of the possible opponents for the second tournament in Red Sun version. You can connect a copy of Blue Moon to it via link cable and unlock her in that version tho. She can summon viruses to aid in battle which funnily enough is the skill used by the evil navis in the series... suspicious

Meddy.EXE is one of the team protoman memberes in BN5; you gotta fight her in a scenario before she joins the team so Lan and Megaman can accept becoming the new leader of the team. Both female navis that give you a soul unison are of the Healing element which is quite a common trope in JRPGs for girls to be healers.

Ring.EXE is one of the playable characters in Battle Chip Challenge spin-off, but appears as a possible boss in the other character's playtroughs. She is possibly a netnavi version of Ringman, making her the only genderbent counterpart in the EXE series.

Not girlbosses:

Plenty of male Navis you fight have female operators; but most people would probably not count them. I'll list them anyway:

Colorman.EXE, Woodman.EXE, Skullman.EXE Toadman.EXE, Knightman.EXE, Snakeman.EXE, Plantman.EXE, Metalman.EXE, Glyde.EXE Windman.EXE, Aquaman.EXE, Magnetman.EXE (in BN5), Slashman.EXE, Elecman.EXE (in BN6) and Rideman.EXE all have female operators despite being male navis

Searchman.EXE's operator Raika is named after a female dog and i swore he was a girl my whole childhood, but no, he's a guy, so he doens't even count for this list. Killerman.EXE's operator is on the same boat

Needman.EXE has a female operator in the anime but not in the games, so he's also out of this list.

Maybe girlbosses?:

Serenade.EXE has a notably feminine desing, but is refered to wtih male pronouns consistently troughout the story. Material cites that she is meant to harken to the androgynous divine figure seem in many mythologies and beliefs; an ascended entity that is above earthly concerns, including human classifications such as sex. So basically while the game treats him as male you can call her whatever you want, they are above caring about such strifles. His all but outright confirmed opeator is male tho for what counts

Videoman.EXE operator claims to be above gender, weather that means he's non-binary, trans, or just GNC is not elaborated upon. regardless of gender tho what he defnelly is is a little bitch

Windman.EXE operator Lilly is a girl, but i once saw one guy claim she is acutally male in the original JP version and the translators just missed the cue. I have NO IDEA where that cliam came from and it's probably false but am adding this here just so that if anyone has further info on that, please tell me.

You acutally fight Lan's mum in Battle Chip Challenge, tho her navi is a generic one whose gender is not specified.

Star Force Series:

Confirmed Girlbosses:

Harp Note is fought as a mandatory boss in both SF1 and SF2. She's the EM wave change of Sonia Strumm (Best girl) and Lyra. Funnily enough Lyra is called Harp in japan but the transformation is Lyra Note, they reversed it.

Queen Ophiuca is the EM wave change of Luna Platz (Not best girl) and Ophiuca, who is fought in both SF1 and SF2

Diamond Ice is a boss in SF3, being an evil transformation of the EM wizard Ice. Who's a girl.

Queen VIrgo is fought as a boss in SF3, being the EM wave change of Tia and Virgo. Virgo means virgin fun fact.

Maybe girlbosses?:

Le Mu is an ancient super-computer that serves as the final boss for SF2. Computers usually don't have genders but the game claims that it gave birth to Apollo Flame which is most defnelly just a metaphor but does make it his mother.

Not girlbosses:

Gemini Spark is the EM wave change of Pat/Rey and Gemini fought as a boss in SF1 and SF2. He's another victim of 'dude can't just look cute without people assuming he's a girl' syndrome that plagues anime men

Andromeda's name comes from the Andromeda galaxy, which is named after a female mythological figure. But since Andromeda is a planet-destroying weapon it probably doens't have a gender.

Conclusion:

IDK why i took the effort to write down all that tbh but oh well whatever

Discussion Best way to approach the classic megaman games?

I'm brand new to this franchise, just bought the first legacy collection. I've seen a lot of people say to look up the best order to play bosses, other tips to play the game, etc.

I usually like to play games blind, and it seems to me that figuring out the best order is part of the strategy of these games, where you try some stages/bosses, they don't go well, and you try some other ones that may be easier, get their ability, then come back.

What I'm wondering is if I'm being a bit stupid here. Some of these games are quite old, so am I just holding it to modern standards and will end up giving myself a worse time?

If there are any non-spoilery tips that people have that you consider essential knowledge for these classic games, those are welcome too!

I may be mistaken but am pretty sure I just pulled and carefully cased immediately a card of X that is a swirling rainbow hologram background and a Card Shokz (CS #1).

From what I have read this is ULTRA RARE and a 96:1 shot of ever pulling one. Anyways, I have a great collection so far but this one has me in complete shock!

Does anybody know more about this collectible CARDSMITHS Trading Card of X?

Fan Art - OC Dr. Cossack Designation "DCN-Z" - Varia [Reploid OC]

I'm not much of an artist yet, but I've had this idea for a Reploid OC for a long time. I know it might note technically fit within the established canon, so call it an AU. What if Cossack made his own Reploid, like Light and Wily?

"Varia" is a reploid who fights with her fists, since I figured it would be fun if there was another Melee character (2 ranged, 1 melee so far) in the X series' main cast. She integrates elemental attacks into her fists. Her arm parts would probably just straight up give her the Hadouken, if I had to guess.
