Basically he just got himself a date by being upfront with his intentions.

That makes sense, but concentrate? That part I'm still not understanding

I read "concentrate" in this context as "focus on the fact that you are so lucky as to hear this generic line from me, the arbiter of what God spends his time on, not whether or not I've used the same line to get dates with or fucked by other women"

Damn, you must have met some awful people if that's where your mind jumps to

I read it the same way, but it might be because french is my first language and « concentrate » can also mean « focus » in french and it’s a common saying to say to someone « concentrate toi » as on « pay attention to what I’m saying ».

Many words in french are similar or even the same in french and english, but very few are common looking but means completely different things so sometimes I get caught up on the wrong meanings.

No, this meaning is the same in English.

Haha thanks for writing in french but it was not necessary. I’m bilingual and the translation goes automatically in my head unless I don’t understand a specific word. It’s just natural to sometimes see words in different lights because of my background. I wanted to inlight a different point of view.

Personally I see that guy mostly as lazy, low effort and inconsiderate rather than clumsy or unskillful. I agree with you that it’s a waste of energy to spend on someone that could just get blocked.

Tbf if you just had a discussion about how a sentence had a very slight difference in connotation because you’ve translated it, it kinda makes sense that people might want to avoid further connotation differences

I agree with you if the person do speak both languages. Using a translator like Google Translate or chat gpt to avoid the reader to translate themselves is counter intuitive and adds more layers of potential bad translation. I appreciate the effort, but looking at the text and their profile it doesn’t sound like they do speak french.

Ah, yeah it’s definitely odd if they don’t speak French, I just assumed it was two bilingual people.

Nah but, I'm french tho? x')

I've been laughing all day at our interaction, I have absolutely no clue what gave her the impression that I couldn't speak french?

Ah ben mince, je suis français à la base, et j'ai profité du fait que tu saches lire le français aussi pour écrire un dernier message avant d'aller me coucher sans avoir à y penser en anglais, ce qui en plus tombait bien vu le sujet de la conversation... Comment ça, "it doesn't sound like they do speak french"??? x')

Tbh my first assumption was that it was meant to be some kind of waving of the hand Jedi mind trick

Bruv this is straight out of the man-o-sphere playbook. They think being an asshole is macho and/or want a woman who won't push back on their horseshit and just be totally submissive.
