Dave & Busters Blocking the DRT

Anyone know whats up with that? Damn near everytime I try to go south on the deleware trail its blocked off by trucks loading at dave and busters. It forces people to go into oncoming traffic around a blind spot onto what is effectively a highway (columbus ave). I'm scared for my life every time, I started walking my bike underneath their truck to avoid putting my life at risk for some drunk people to play games and eat in a chain entertainment spot.

Are they legally allowed to do this?? I noticed they sometimes park a second truck in the lane to at least block traffic partially. Though, I believe they're just waiting their turn to load since its a rare occurrence. Most of the other buissness's along the strip leave a path even if small but not D&B they have it set up in a way for trucks to dock and always make it dangerous.

Held it down at the Wall, heard some good folk were loud and proud at Lemon Hill ✊🏾. Bigots shouldn't feel comfy.

What a show, phenomenal day.

Wednesday Night Rides // Sept 2 // Tacony Creek & K-pop

Post image
17 Upvotes

This week, we're thrilled to be riding through Tacony Creek Park for the first time. Starting at Palmer Park in the heart of Fishtown, we'll take Tulip, Venango and K Streets to the lush, green park surrounding the creek. We'll be riding in twilight and parts of the park can get quite dark, so lights are absolutely essential for this ride - preferably lights bright enough to see with, not just to be seen. If you need lights, hit up your local bike shop.

We'll end at MUTA, a hidden gem off Front St, for Korean BBQ and (for anyone feeling brave) K-pop karaoke. There will be a loosely organized group ride from MUTA towards Center City departing at about 10p that will take Olney to 5th to Cambria to the American St bikeway. SEPTA options for getting home from MUTA include hopping on a regional rail train at the nearby Olney Station (at 8:35, 9:35, 10:35, etc.), or riding over to the Broad Street Line.

Ride Details

Ride notes

  • This route is is more uphill than down, with a couple of moderately steep climbs
  • After dark, PA law requires a headlight and a red tail light or reflector on all bikes.
  • We ride for fun - while encountering hostile drivers happens sometimes, our practice is to avoid conflict as much as possible. When there's potential for conflict, please de-escalate, e.g. pull over to the side to let cars pass.

Hope to see you on Wednesday on a bike!

I watched this race as a kid… grew up, got married, moved away… then became a BIG cycling fan. It was so much fun coming back home for this. There’s no better experience than being on The Wall!

New Routes

Hi Everyone!

My husband and I are new to Philly but are both cyclists. We have a good 20-28 mile route down but are looking to go a bit further. As we both have road bikes I noticed once you get to manayunk the path turns to not paved for a while and I am not trying to get a flat.Does anyone know where it starts back paved again or have any routes that they feel comfortable sharing that are great?

Note: I do use Strava maps but I’m looking to see any favorites people may have or recommend

Question Schuykill River Trail Access - Conshohocken

Hi - I’m not a cyclist but hoping to tap the brain trust of this group for some SRT intel.

My daughter has a soccer practice at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken twice a week. I would love to do something other than go to IKEA for the time in between. Is the trail accessible by foot outside of the formal trailheads? The railroad that would be blocking the trail ends just north of where I’ll be, and I’m wondering if I can sneak down.

Thanks so much, and apologies for crashing the sub.

TLDR: I want to make more bikepacking/touring friends in Philadelphia

Problem Statement:
Over the last couple of years I’ve developed a real interest and love for bikepacking. So far, I’ve only done a couple of one-nighters, but I want to start doing more ambitious trips and with more frequency. The problem is that I’m limited to convincing my friends to try out my hobby (obsession) but I can only do that for so long. I think it would be much easier to get these bike trips scheduled if I was coordinating with folks that already had the bike, gear, and desire.

About Me:
I’ve got a few bikes but I use a Surly Cross Check with Moloko bars and a variety of Swift Industries and Outer Shell bags for longer loaded trips. I am by no means a superhuman athlete or bike expert but I can change a busted tube with some patience. I draw a lot of inspiration from the GenoSack ATBers in Minneapolis, and would love to replicate that vibe.

Looking For:
I’m a dude in South Philly primarily seeking dudes in their 20s to 30s, but I’m down to meet up with anyone who is into biking. I’d love to make some friends to go on rides with and that enjoy talking about their bag setup, camping gadgets, trips they aspire to do, and non-bike related topics lol. There are a bunch of cool trails and trips that I’d like to do, including but not limited to, D&L, C&O, and GAP. If these are letters you recognize and lust over, then we should talk.

Next Steps (if interested):
Let’s connect and meet up for a casual ride, maybe get coffee and see if our goals align. If there’s chemistry, great, if not, that’s cool too.

This is always one of my favorite events to cover! This year was “better than before” as local to-cyclist Robin Carpenter mentioned after crossing the finish line (at the tail end of the bunch).

Cycling Accident During Philadelphia Classic

I was on the Schuylkill River Trail today and saw what looked to be a pretty severe accident between two cyclists right next to the trail. The one cycling was fine but the other required medical attention. Cyclists looked to be part of today’s race, but it wasn’t the collision near the finish line. I hope both are ok, so I’m wondering if anyone has any information on this.

To those attending/spectating the Philly Classic today I hope you have a safe and memory filled day!

I’ve spent mine floating between East Falls and The Wall to get the best of both worlds. It’s also my first professional bike event.

Looking for people to cycle with in NW Philly

[Posting for my fantastic husband who is not on FB. Please DM me if you want to connect]

Hi all! Looking for cyclists for morning rides from chestnut hill on the weekend, usually 20-30 miles, mostly road with some light gravel (forbidden drive) and some portion of the river trail, although open to other routes. Nothing too intense - medium, conversational pace (not that we have to converse - we can ride in brooding silence). About me - I’m a bay area transplant to CH, with two teenage kids and an appreciation for a few hours on a bike when no one is asking me to drive them anywhere.

Is there anyone or any groups going to Nutmeg Nor'easter in Connecticut from Philly? I'm looking to go for the first time ever but don't want to go alone, will if I have to.

Amateur Time Trial pics

Anyone shoot the event today or know where to find pics? Felt like there were some photogs on the course.

Great day out. Race was well executed even if it could have been a bit more controlled for intrusions on the course.

Logistics of Phlash Shuttle for the race tomorrow…

We have an Air BNB in Roxborough and were planning to just walk over to the Wall.

We weren’t aware there was a Phlash shuttle available. If we watch a few laps on the Wall, and catch that shuttle into the City to see some action there, do you think we’d miss too much of the race, or be able to get a shuttle back in return?

Just looking for opinions. Had no idea it was an option. If it’s a logistic nightmare, we’ll just stay at the Wall and Manayunk.

Thanks!

Finally rode North Philly on my EBike after avoiding it my whole time here. What a ride

Never rode North Philly in 6 years here since I had a ebike, finally did today for deliveries and had a few close calls with the grim reaper. Genuinely asking, not trying to start anything: do you guys ride North Philly regularly, and what should I watch for next time?
