/r/Pretoria Community Update: New Rules regarding Solicitation and Content Relevance
Hi everyone,
As /r/Pretoria continues to grow, we are introducing a few official rules to ensure the subreddit remains a helpful, safe, and relevant resource for everyone living in or visiting our city. We've kept intervention to a minimum so far. In general we've only banned blatant racism, bots, and spammers, so we've generally got a very well behaved community.
We want to keep this space focused on discussion, advice, and news specific to the Jacaranda City, however. To support this, we have added the following rules to the sidebar, effective immediately:
A. No Begging, Crowdfunding, or Financial Solicitation
We have seen an increase in posts asking for financial assistance, "loans," or e-wallets. While we sympathize with those in difficult situations, Reddit is not a safe platform for verifying financial needs.
What is banned: Requests for money, e-wallets, and links to crowdfunding sites (e.g., BackaBuddy, GoFundMe).
Why: This rule is in place to protect our community from potential scams and unverified solicitation.
Advice: If you are in need, please reach out to registered NPOs or charity organizations rather than soliciting here.
B. Keep Content Relevant to Pretoria and the greater Tshwane
Please ensure your posts are directly related to Pretoria or the greater Tshwane municipality.
General SA News: News that affects the whole country (e.g., general Eskom updates, national politics) belongs in /r/southafrica unless it has a specific Pretoria angle.
Other Cities: Posts clearly meant for Joburg or other regions will be removed.
Context: If you post a photo or link where the connection to Pretoria isn't obvious, please explain it in the title.
C. Standard Civility & Privacy
We are also formalizing standard expectations:
Be Civil: Disagreements are fine; personal attacks and hate speech are not.
No Spam: Accounts that exist solely to advertise businesses will be banned.
No Doxing: Do not post personal contact details (phone numbers, addresses) of yourself or others.
These rules are here to improve the quality of the sub. If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave a comment below or message the moderators. Finally, thanks to everyone reporting posts, messaging the mods for clarifications, participating, /u/Afreak-du-sud for their post on the big uptick of begging and the scamming that inevitably goes with it. Don't worry, though, we don't ban for tagging the mods.. 😂
Thanks for helping us keep /r/Pretoria a great community!

Any Wingspan players in Pretoria? 🐦
Bit of a niche question, but are there any Wingspan players around Pretoria who’d be keen to play semi-regularly?
I really enjoy the game and would love to find a few other people locally who are into it — either an existing group I could join, or potentially getting a small group together for the occasional game.
I’m based in Pretoria, so Pretoria East would be particularly convenient, but happy to hear about anything in the wider area too.
If you play (or know of a group), let me know!

Public transport in PTA
Hello Guys I just wanted to ask your thoughts regarding public transport in PTA, personally I think that's one of our most underrated traits as a city or even province. The fact that areyeng, city of tshwane and gautrain are consistent and cheap as well as connecting people to most parts of pretoria ( well to be fair most business areas and houses in the cities) is something we should celebrate and ask more off. I just don't like that communication is rather a bit inconsistent when a certain bus for example isn't available for 06:00 they don't mention online or social media and that kinda leads to lack of trust as well as rails aren't quite connected I feel we could have a train that could go from soshanguave to Hatfield and even Sandton if we wanted or mamelodi to soshanguave but most has degraded we need to bring them back (except the gautrain which is relatively more expensive isn't well connected).
So I feel it's an underrated feature of Pretoria (and Gauteng) what do u guys think about it?

F22 - FRIENDS AROUND PRETORIA WEST REGION
Hi everyone!
I’m going to be coming down to the Pretoria West area soon and realized I probably should’ve made this post ages ago.
I’d love to meet some new people and make a few friends while I’m there. I’m pretty chilled and always down for a good conversation, grabbing food/coffee, going for a walk, checking out places, or just doing something random and fun.
If you’re also in the Pretoria West/Pretoria area and keen to meet some new people, feel free to message me!
Would be nice to have a little group of people to hang out with while I’m down there.
I'm quite laid back!

Question about safety in the East
Hey,
I’m looking to move from Centurion to Pretoria East, and found a place that is perfect on paper in Faerie Glen. Only concern is, it’s a freestanding house and not in a complex or an area with access control. It has trellis and bars on the windows. Is it a valid concern to be worried about break-ins and other crime, or am I overthinking the risk associated with it? I would love to hear the experiences of those staying in Faerie Glen or similar areas :)

Weird side hustles in Pretoria
Hey folks. Just want to share a story on my side of a weird side hustle I landed into.
I get paid to talk to older women, mostly 40+. I'm mid 20's. It mostly entails going out to get coffee. They would complain or talk about things going on in their lives, I mostly share uplifting stories or positive things. Just general conversations for them to clear their mind or share something they are proud of and don't feel comfortable sharing with others.
Typing it out it does sound like unlicensed therapy. But I don't act as if I am a therapist. Just genuine conversation and human connection.
I'd love to hear from the rest. What unexpected side hustles did you end up in? And at what point would you consider doing more of it instead of a regular 9-5?

Why are so many gun shops in PTA so trash?
I've had such crap experiences with gun shops in Pretoria. They seem to so often be totally unprofessional and overall crappy people - especially the smaller stores. Why is this? Or have I just had freak experiences?
The bigger chain stores have been better. But smaller places like Zimbi and NSN have been dismal in terms of service and general common decency.

Lost cat
I know this is an unconventional place to post a missing cat poster, but I am trying every avenue. I recently moved into a new house in Moreletapark, and after about a week of acclimatising my cats to the new house I let them explore their new garden on Saturday. Everything seemed to be fine going into the evening, however, one has not been seen since we went to bed that evening.
He is a long, white and ginger boy named Tumbles. He’s very shy, but loves human affection. We are very close to Kimiad golf course. Any assistance that can help me bring him would be greatly appreciated, and I will even offer a reward as he is very dear to our family.

Year End Venues
Hi, I’m looking for a venue or restaurant in Pretoria to host our company’s year-end function. Ideally somewhere with a boma and good platter options, catering for 40+ guests. Thanks in advance!

Heritage day
Hey everyone!
Since heritage day is around the corner, I really want to celebrate and support our upcoming res fundraising event by wearing a beautiful, traditional sari. Since I don't own one myself, I am hoping a fellow Redditor might have one I could borrow or rent for the day. If you happen to own one please do engage and comment below
