WHAT WAS THAT BANG? *the megapost*

Did you hear something loud? Do you think it was fireworks, an exploding transformer, or anything else?

Post it here!

Since there are so many booming noises, please try to include a location and time.

Can someone explain to me why so people don't want a train and why its been taking so long?

I know a lot of older people don't want a train here, however every younger person I've talked to about this love the idea of having a train. I think a lot of people would take it. I have heard people say its pointless for such a small town, but if we get a train cant it eventually get connected elsewhere too? like Monterey or to cal train. Its crazy to me that people are fighting a train that could be helpful for so many people.

Edit:

'A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in'

It really saddens me how pessimistic people are, not just that, how much people don't care about helping other people. If they wont use it why should we get it? Very sad how individualistic people are.

1) I have seen a lot of tax conversations... taxes funding war in another country but not a train at home? wouldn't you want to see your taxes do SOMETHING good for your people?

2) Many have talked about changing Santa Cruz? umm that's already happening if you have a train or not...

3) Yes, there are no plans to extend it out but if we get a train it becomes an option to extend

beautiful kitty seems to be a stray :(

Hi! The past several days this guy had been hanging around my house on Pearl Street, he's a very beautiful maine coon mix it looks like, fluffy tail and those pointy ears. An absolutely gorgeous kitty, the picture doesn't capture it well. Dark browns and greys and a bright Auburn color at some points. but he seems very skinny and mangy. He might be a kitten as well-regardless, it's quite little.I've put out food bc it seems very hungry but I won't be able to continue due to moving house. There are a lot of outdoor cats in the neighborhood but I really think this one is a stray, if anyone has any other info on if it has an owner, or if you want to potentially adopt a street cat ha (or help in any way. i feel bad leaving him out there 😢), he's skittish but hungry. Mostly hangin around 205 Pearl Street, off of lower Ocean

I make ceramics, and would like to collaborate with a graffiti artist to paint some graffiti art on some of my pieces. If you do graffiti and this sounds cool to you, shoot me a DM.

Escaping Big Sur to Santa Cruz

Need to give another shoutout to the ever so lovely Santa Cruz. It is such a lovely and fun town with amazing access to the big beautiful ocean.

I had to evacuate Big Sur due to the fires encroaching extremely close (pretty much next to) to where I work and live, and I have taken refuge up here in SC.

Everyone is so friendly, kind and I am usually greeted with a wave or smile or even a nod. These kind gestures have made my time and experience here feel rich in love and gratitude. I used to live here for about a year so I already love SC, but, being back and in this capacity and experiencing the kind gestures of town folk has made it that more pleasurable.

Shout out to Santa Cruz and lets hope Big Sur gets cleaned up from firing operations. The timber + Plaskett will likely reach 100K + acres.

Santa Cruz Symphony AI art

We got our Santa Cruz Symphony 2027 season brochure and were distressed to see 8 obviously AI images credited to the music director. How can any artist in Santa Cruz be unaware of the strong antipathy toward AI-generated art in the local community? Have they learned nothing from the kerfuffle about the Salty Otter logo or the Good Times cover for the article about Atlantis Fantasyworld?

My family usually donates to the Santa Cruz Symphony, but are considering withholding our donation this year as protest for the tone-deaf, anti-artist marketing.

Cat needs a home with a yard where he can go outside. His owner doesn't want him and gave him to me without telling me he needs to go outside. The cat is sweet as could be but constantly trying to go outside.

PG&E cheaper than 3CE?

Received the flyer detailing electric rates. Looking at the fine print, these are for the E-TOU-C plan, 356 KWh monthly usage, at some average mix of time of use.

Everyone pays 29.994 cents/KWh delivery charge.

PG&E customers pay 12.091 cents/KWh for generation, and receive a credit of 0.918 cents/KWh via the indifference adjustment. That's 11.173 cents/KWh total.

3CE customers pay 11.061 cents/KWh for generation, and also pay 3.738 cents/KWh for the indifference adjustment. That's 14.799 cents/KWh total.

3CE customers pay 3.626 cents/KWh more than PG&E customers. The average customer assumed in the fine print thus pays $12.91 more per month.

Redwood Ridge Tree Fort - Santa Cruz

6.5/10…. Cute space, but the bed was a problem.

Great location, amenities, and a really cute setup for a weekend getaway. That said, the bed itself was an issue — we started itching non-stop soon after getting in, with a crawling sensation all over our skin that even hot showers didn’t fix. Not sure of the cause, but it affected our stay. Worth noting there were no Google reviews for this place before we booked, so we didn’t have much to go on. Everything else about the place was lovely.

Looking for Labor and Delivery experiences

We’re a two mom family in Santa Cruz and looking for advice on where to deliver. We have heard great things about Sutter but are concerned that they don’t have a NICU and wouldn't be equipped to handle an unexpected emergency. We’re also hesitant to choose Dominican despite them having a NICU as I have read that folks have had pretty terrible experiences there and many of their staff have left (also not sure how LGBT friendly they are). I’d love to hear about any recent experiences folks have had at either facility or if others decided to ultimately get care over the hill.

Truck Suspension Repair Shop

I’m at my wits end with my 92 F150. I’ve replaced my ball joints, tie rods, and steering box but the steering is still incredibly sloppy. Can anyone recommend a good suspension shop in the county that works on older model vehicles? Thanks in advance.

Reputable bike stores?

Hi guys! I‘m on the lookout for a good gravel bike to ride on the rec trail. I need some recs on where I can go to get good suggestions, whether I buy a bike from them or they give me a model I can find online.

I’m not planning on doing any crazy training, just want a good quality bike from someone who knows their stuff. My budget is lower (for bikes, at least) at maybe $1200 max. I already feel insane spending this much 🤣

I’m not buying used, although I know that’s usually the best way of finding a deal. I’m willing to travel for a good shop.

TIA!! :)
