I've just started season 6 of stargate SG-1 and I have to admit I'm a bit confused on, as the title of this post might show, what the SG command has actually discovered or researched?

Early on they get a new powerful medical drug from the plant life of a local planet, ZAT guns and even death glider stuff. But beyond that what have they actually discovered?

You don't see them getting much other new drugs, computing power, industrial design, construction materials or so forth. Like just ignoring military technologies there's so much more they could be getting here. Hell even just something like differnet filtering bacteria from another world could help reduce things like agricultural pollution.

Yet you don't see anything like that. Then you see what technologies they do discover they keep hidden from their allies in the form of the Russians who actually sacrificed a lot in the name of good faith in sharing technologies discovered from the star Gate project. Yet if things like the death glider tech, zar guns and such are hidden from the Russians what the sweet hell are they giving them in turn. No wounder they're pissed all the time if they're getting litterally nothing.

I'm not advocating for 'steal shit from the natives' ala NID way of doing things. But even just reverse engineering a more advanced fridge I'd respect at this point.

Im pretty sure I heard him comment at a panel last year that the Staff weapon was already heavy enough though!

Hi all, Dragoncon prep had me in its clutches but I finished my big item in time! This is both a brag and a question though: Has anyone ever seen a fanmade Deathglider cannon before? Do I get to say I'm the first? I asked in the GateWorld discord and nobody was able to bring up pics, but maybe someone did a cardboard/foam craft or such?

The cannon body is entirely my own modeling based off of screenshots of S5E4 and S5E14. I did model a head for it but couldn't get my mechanism working in time, so HUGE credit to u/lilykill for the invention of their staff design and its articulation! I had to implement some extra springs and such to get so much plastic moving, but it looks great!

Once I finish my head design I'll see if I can get this design out to others. I know its very niche but it has always meant a lot to me, definitely impacted my love for Sci-Fi weapons and hipfire cannons or such!

The Crystals and rear light LED look good indoors, but I'm definitely going to need to rework my lights and wiring to get those crystals looking as good as Teal'c's does on-set. Similarly gotta learn arduino, get some programmable LEDs in the head and a big ol speaker inside for proper cannon-blast audio!

Total weight is 14.5 lbs, mostly PETG printed with one PVC pipe, various screws and springs, a lotta glue and a home paintjob of rattlecans and dry brushing!

They can't reach destiny with a ZPM and when a ZPM explodes it's believed by Carter that it could destroy a solar system. If there is more energy in a naquadria core world it might be the most explosive thing seen in the show.

Bonus questions

What do you think they mean by Naquadria core? (Doesn't Naquadria Explode under heat and pressure?)

Also how'd that Naquadria get on those other worlds?

(Did someone put it there or was it a fluke of nature?)

With Atlantis, BC-304, SG teams, and earth's F-302 squadrons, how many skilled trust worthy personnel are left over for the off world bases?

I'm exhausted and on strong pain meds and had a stupid thought/theory that I figured someone would find amusing.

Furlings = Cats.

They reached their pinnacle of scientific advancement and decided that the Ancients had the right idea about retiring, but disagreed with the method.

Ascending seemed like just another way to generate responsibility and work. They wanted to _enjoy_ their racial retirement.

So they settled on Earth - a planet that they hadn't really interacted with much and where they wouldn't be recognized. They decided not to verbally communicate with the natives. Let them think they were lower beings so they wouldn't ask them for help or be influenced by their technological and educational superiority.

Ok, so those people in the desert may have learned something they shouldn't and promptly decided to worship them. But eh, the results were good. Maybe living with these primitives could be pretty good.

So for millenia, the Furlings have been living simply. Those that chose to be domesticated were worshiped, pampered, loved. They got to sleep for 16 hours a day, and play like children. Get fed with little effort. Even their waste gets cleaned up for them.

Those that didn't want the easy life lived in the wild. Creating communities and hunting for their food.

This is why cats are often snobbish. To them, we're little more than cavemen. This is why cats sometimes show intelligence beyond what people expect, seemingly to completely understand human languages. This is why some cats can alert people to physical ailments - it would be like us diagnosing measles in societies that still think it's caused by witchcraft.

It also explains why cats seem to think that _we_ are the pets. Or why cats seem to think that humans are stupid. Because we are.

I just watched SGA's The Siege, and wow. It gave me goosebumps that I haven't felt since watching Battlestar: Galactica. I really get the impression that the progression of technology and overall mystery went quite well over the past seasons of SG-1 and now Atlantis. We keep learning about new parts of the history of the Ancients and new enemies to beat, which keeps the show fresh. When the Daedalus arrived and I saw it in orbit I screamed like a schoolgirl.

At the same time Stargate sometimes happily reminds me about the good parts of Star Trek. "The First Ones" and "Window of Opportunity" are episodes that could have played out in ST:TNG and it would have made sense.

I love the downtime between the high stakes. Random episodes that don't contribute (much) to the story add depth to characters and are fun to watch.

Usually, I start thinking about making Christmas ornaments right about now, and then promptly forget until November. NOT THIS YEAR! I am well ahead of schedule and have come up with a stunning set of 80mm Stargate baubles that I hope you guys will love.

I have tried really hard to and have seen the amount of positive feedback that universe has gotten

However I can’t watch it due to the moving camera. I just can’t focus and it bothers me to the end is time the fact that every scene is like that bothers me. I can not get past it. I have tried to watch the series on multiple occasions. But I can’t get past the first episode.

The reported premise: A new BC-307 ship called the Argo appears above Earth. Its crew is missing or dead. The sole apparent survivor is the original Daniel Jackson, played by Michael Shanks. But this Earth belongs to an alternate reality where the Stargate program either does not exist or has barely begun.

The Stargate itself apparently would not be activated until around the middle of the first season.

Daniel would have been a series regular, serving as the bridge between the original continuity and the new cast. More than six previous Stargate actors were reportedly intended for recurring or guest roles, possibly as alternate versions of their characters.

Michael Shanks independently revealed at the Ascension 2 convention that he had been substantially involved and would have returned as Daniel. That prompted Read to disclose what he knew.

I only just now found out that apparently the premise of the show, or at least its start, was given to us by anonymous sources in MGM. My first thought was that this may have been released intentionally to check the fan response. Perhaps #savestargate did something after all.

So I checked what the threads here have to say, and apparently half the people don't like it at best, or are saying they're now happy it was canned at worst.

I guess if I'm right, the fandom just nailed Gero's Stargate's coffin shut for good.

This is located in France , back in 2018 or something, it cost 1800usd (including crating) to ship it from Los angeles to a port in france where i picked it up, so that gives a perspective of shipping cost depending where you are located in the world

Was reading a manwha called "The Dark Swordsman Return" chapter 63 and the main character is taken to a research facility by his teacher and that research facility looks very much like Atlantis

I was re-watching the first Atlantis episode where they encounter the Wraith. It made me realize that if some of these non advanced worlds would've just angled their gate towards the ground, the Wraith would've crashed and exploded. Then when the hive ships come, just hide in the mountains. I find it hard to believe that no one in the thousands of years of cullings didn't bother to move the gate.
