Hi all, Dragoncon prep had me in its clutches but I finished my big item in time! This is both a brag and a question though: Has anyone ever seen a fanmade Deathglider cannon before? Do I get to say I'm the first? I asked in the GateWorld discord and nobody was able to bring up pics, but maybe someone did a cardboard/foam craft or such?

The cannon body is entirely my own modeling based off of screenshots of S5E4 and S5E14. I did model a head for it but couldn't get my mechanism working in time, so HUGE credit to u/lilykill for the invention of their staff design and its articulation! I had to implement some extra springs and such to get so much plastic moving, but it looks great!

Once I finish my head design I'll see if I can get this design out to others. I know its very niche but it has always meant a lot to me, definitely impacted my love for Sci-Fi weapons and hipfire cannons or such!

The Crystals and rear light LED look good indoors, but I'm definitely going to need to rework my lights and wiring to get those crystals looking as good as Teal'c's does on-set. Similarly gotta learn arduino, get some programmable LEDs in the head and a big ol speaker inside for proper cannon-blast audio!

Total weight is 14.5 lbs, mostly PETG printed with one PVC pipe, various screws and springs, a lotta glue and a home paintjob of rattlecans and dry brushing!

Usually, I start thinking about making Christmas ornaments right about now, and then promptly forget until November. NOT THIS YEAR! I am well ahead of schedule and have come up with a stunning set of 80mm Stargate baubles that I hope you guys will love.

I've also included pictures of a couple of other projects I completed this month—the Goa'uld Tablet and the Alteran Communication Stone.

The reported premise: A new BC-307 ship called the Argo appears above Earth. Its crew is missing or dead. The sole apparent survivor is the original Daniel Jackson, played by Michael Shanks. But this Earth belongs to an alternate reality where the Stargate program either does not exist or has barely begun.

The Stargate itself apparently would not be activated until around the middle of the first season.

Daniel would have been a series regular, serving as the bridge between the original continuity and the new cast. More than six previous Stargate actors were reportedly intended for recurring or guest roles, possibly as alternate versions of their characters.

Michael Shanks independently revealed at the Ascension 2 convention that he had been substantially involved and would have returned as Daniel. That prompted Read to disclose what he knew.

I only just now found out that apparently the premise of the show, or at least its start, was given to us by anonymous sources in MGM. My first thought was that this may have been released intentionally to check the fan response. Perhaps #savestargate did something after all.

So I checked what the threads here have to say, and apparently half the people don't like it at best, or are saying they're now happy it was canned at worst.

I guess if I'm right, the fandom just nailed Gero's Stargate's coffin shut for good.

This is located in France , back in 2018 or something, it cost 1800usd (including crating) to ship it from Los angeles to a port in france where i picked it up, so that gives a perspective of shipping cost depending where you are located in the world

Was reading a manwha called "The Dark Swordsman Return" chapter 63 and the main character is taken to a research facility by his teacher and that research facility looks very much like Atlantis

I was re-watching the first Atlantis episode where they encounter the Wraith. It made me realize that if some of these non advanced worlds would've just angled their gate towards the ground, the Wraith would've crashed and exploded. Then when the hive ships come, just hide in the mountains. I find it hard to believe that no one in the thousands of years of cullings didn't bother to move the gate.

I see a lot of discussion here about how to make a new show work given the advanced ships and technology given to them by the Asgard. Realistically I don't see a way to do that without alienating existing fans and confusing new viewers.

So what if they did the opposite? Set the show 50 years in the future and lean into the advanced tech. Basically make a star trek style show.

They could still retain the core of Stargate: a team of people exploring the galaxy. The only difference is they use a ship instead of a gate.

I think the interesting angle here could be putting a gate on the ship and using it for instant travel to and from earth. It would allow the show to have strong ties to the home world while also being a ship based show, which would give it a distinction over star trek.

And the time skip would make it easier to explain things and interesting to catch up with familiar races. Surely 50 years is enough time for a new faction to arise or an existing one to rival earth. Maybe the goauld stole an Asgard core 20 years earlier and have been able to reverse engineer most of it for example. That would put them on equal footing with earth. The Stargate could be public knowledge but it happened years ago so we can get on with the show. I think it would solve a lot of problems.

Obviously this is a hard departure from the tried and true formula, but I feel like it's a viable alternative to a hard reboot since the execs didn't like Martin's show.

edit: some ideas that came to me after writing this:

- the show would primarily focus on a team exploring planets and the ship would be the new base.

- the ship has a gate which functions just like any other gate in the galaxy. They get instant travel to/from earth and anywhere else they need.

- the time skip allows the writers to move past disclosure and cleanly manage the lore of the og shows. For example the Lucian alliance could just go away. Have it fizzle out 40 years earlier and don't even bother mentioning it.

- the show could still retain one or two legacy characters using stasis pods from the Antarctic outpost (or just Asgard tech). Maybe Daniel wants to see how the world comes to terms with Stargate disclosure and freezes himself for 50 years or something. There could also be a time travel episode with cameos I'm sure.

- earth would be mostly the same but with fancier tech. Holographic screens and futuristic cars or something. Add a line like "even with the Asgard knowledge it's taking us longer than expected to scale to their level" or something like that.

- it should have some distinction from sgu and Atlantis formulas. the gate being functional from day 1 would go a long way but maybe they're on a mission to seed stargates in an area of the galaxy the ancients never explored or something.

- there should be two bad guys similar to the goauld and replicators. maybe the jaffa United and became more militant and the other could be brand new.
