Hi all, Dragoncon prep had me in its clutches but I finished my big item in time! This is both a brag and a question though: Has anyone ever seen a fanmade Deathglider cannon before? Do I get to say I'm the first? I asked in the GateWorld discord and nobody was able to bring up pics, but maybe someone did a cardboard/foam craft or such?

The cannon body is entirely my own modeling based off of screenshots of S5E4 and S5E14. I did model a head for it but couldn't get my mechanism working in time, so HUGE credit to u/lilykill for the invention of their staff design and its articulation! I had to implement some extra springs and such to get so much plastic moving, but it looks great!

Once I finish my head design I'll see if I can get this design out to others. I know its very niche but it has always meant a lot to me, definitely impacted my love for Sci-Fi weapons and hipfire cannons or such!

The Crystals and rear light LED look good indoors, but I'm definitely going to need to rework my lights and wiring to get those crystals looking as good as Teal'c's does on-set. Similarly gotta learn arduino, get some programmable LEDs in the head and a big ol speaker inside for proper cannon-blast audio!

Total weight is 14.5 lbs, mostly PETG printed with one PVC pipe, various screws and springs, a lotta glue and a home paintjob of rattlecans and dry brushing!

With Atlantis, BC-304, SG teams, and earth's F-302 squadrons, how many skilled trust worthy personnel are left over for the off world bases?

Usually, I start thinking about making Christmas ornaments right about now, and then promptly forget until November. NOT THIS YEAR! I am well ahead of schedule and have come up with a stunning set of 80mm Stargate baubles that I hope you guys will love.

I've also included pictures of a couple of other projects I completed this month—the Goa'uld Tablet and the Alteran Communication Stone.

They can't reach destiny with a ZPM and when a ZPM explodes it's believed by Carter that it could destroy a solar system. If there is more energy in a naquadria core world it might be the most explosive thing seen in the show.

With the knowledge that the new show was to be in an alternate universe, people keep saying this was the only way it could go, which while I don't think the show's concept is horrible, I think there were other ways possibilities and I keep thinking about these two so I just wanted to put them out here to see what people think. Premise 1 is the option I personally like better, but premise 2 is the sort of thing I think people like Amazon would be more likely to go for. I want to make it clear that I don't think I'm a better writer than Martin Gero or anything, I've just been thinking about these concepts and I want to see what people think

Premise 1: It has been 15 years since we last heard from our heroes, in this time, the Stargate program has been made public, and all the old threats have been dealt with. While Earth's fleet of ships patrol the galaxy, offering aid, and dealing with the remnants of old enemies, a new team of explorers has been assembled. The Stargate was made public some time ago, and the new Stargate Program consists of the combined efforts of Earth's major powers. It remains largely American-led, but like the earlier Atlantis expedition, the best and brightest have been recruited from around the globe.
The show follows a new team of explorers, going on missions through the gate, this show would be very episodic like early seasons of SG1 where the frontline team explores a new world each episode. There would be plenty of opportunity for some returning faces, for example I know a lot of people have suggested General Samantha Carter as the leader of the SGC, which would be a good way of incorporating a legacy character without having them steal the show. Additionally, you could bring in old characters for individual episodes eg: there's a really difficult language that the team's archeologist can't decipher, so Professor Daniel Jackson is brought in to help out.

The show starts out relatively lower stakes, where the team is just exploring individual worlds, but as the season progresses, they start to unravel a conspiracy spread out across many worlds that no one else saw because they were too busy looking at the big picture... (this could either be a resurgence of an old enemy, eg: the Goa'uld have set up spies all over the place trying to subtly outmaneuver the humans, or it could be something completely new.)

The main issue with this idea is in creating stakes when you know that there are powerful ships flying around out there. But space is big, the advantage of using the gates is how quickly you can get around, so you could easily use the old "the nearest ship is three days away at max speed." But you can only do that so many times. This would at least provide an opportunity for some epic moments eg: the team have defended to their last and the enemy is about to kill them, when suddenly the Odyssey arrives and strikes them from orbit

Premise 2: We start off by establishing the formidable fleet that Earth has. When suddenly, a wave goes out across the galaxy and all of the ships hyperdrives are rendered inoperable... (ala discovery's "the burn" except this time we don't make it caused by a crying child, and there is a basis in Stargate for this sort of thing given the Attero Device.)
Now all of the ships are stranded across the galaxy with no way home, Earth is practically defenseless, the only way out of this crisis: the Stargate. Funding was pulled over a decade ago and the whole program was mothballed. But now, they need to pull the gate out from the warehouse where it has been gathering dust and get it operational again. This effort is spearheaded by one of the old cast such as Carter or O'Neill, and some technicians eg: Walter Harriman and Sgt. Siler come back to help get it running again, but the main cast is a whole new team who's goal is to use the gate system to weed out the origin of this mysterious attack and put a stop to it...

So yeah, I personally think there is plenty of opportunity for a new show to be in the same continuity as the old shows without it being all about the ships and how powerful Earth is, the galaxy is a big place and there are still countless unexplored worlds out there...

I was re-watching the first Atlantis episode where they encounter the Wraith. It made me realize that if some of these non advanced worlds would've just angled their gate towards the ground, the Wraith would've crashed and exploded. Then when the hive ships come, just hide in the mountains. I find it hard to believe that no one in the thousands of years of cullings didn't bother to move the gate.

I'm exhausted and on strong pain meds and had a stupid thought/theory that I figured someone would find amusing.

They reached their pinnacle of scientific advancement and decided that the Ancients had the right idea about retiring, but disagreed with the method.

Ascending seemed like just another way to generate responsibility and work. They wanted to _enjoy_ their racial retirement.

So they settled on Earth - a planet that they hadn't really interacted with much and where they wouldn't be recognized. They decided not to verbally communicate with the natives. Let them think they were lower beings so they wouldn't ask them for help or be influenced by their technological and educational superiority.

Ok, so those people in the desert may have learned something they shouldn't and promptly decided to worship them. But eh, the results were good. Maybe living with these primitives could be pretty good.

So for millenia, the Furlings have been living simply. Those that chose to be domesticated were worshiped, pampered, loved. They got to sleep for 16 hours a day, and play like children. Get fed with little effort. Even their waste gets cleaned up for them.

Those that didn't want the easy life lived in the wild. Creating communities and hunting for their food.

This is why cats are often snobbish. To them, we're little more than cavemen. This is why cats sometimes show intelligence beyond what people expect, seemingly to completely understand human languages. This is why some cats can alert people to physical ailments - it would be like us diagnosing measles in societies that still think it's caused by witchcraft.

It also explains why cats seem to think that _we_ are the pets. Or why cats seem to think that humans are stupid. Because we are.

I see a lot of discussion here about how to make a new show work given the advanced ships and technology given to them by the Asgard. Realistically I don't see a way to do that without alienating existing fans and confusing new viewers.

So what if they did the opposite? Set the show 50 years in the future and lean into the advanced tech. Basically make a star trek style show.

They could still retain the core of Stargate: a team of people exploring the galaxy. The only difference is they use a ship instead of a gate.

I think the interesting angle here could be putting a gate on the ship and using it for instant travel to and from earth. It would allow the show to have strong ties to the home world while also being a ship based show, which would give it a distinction over star trek.

And the time skip would make it easier to explain things and interesting to catch up with familiar races. Surely 50 years is enough time for a new faction to arise or an existing one to rival earth. Maybe the goauld stole an Asgard core 20 years earlier and have been able to reverse engineer most of it for example. That would put them on equal footing with earth. The Stargate could be public knowledge but it happened years ago so we can get on with the show. I think it would solve a lot of problems.

Obviously this is a hard departure from the tried and true formula, but I feel like it's a viable alternative to a hard reboot since the execs didn't like Martin's show.

edit: some ideas that came to me after writing this:

- the show would primarily focus on a team exploring planets and the ship would be the new base.

- the ship has a gate which functions just like any other gate in the galaxy. They get instant travel to/from earth and anywhere else they need.

- the time skip allows the writers to move past disclosure and cleanly manage the lore of the og shows. For example the Lucian alliance could just go away. Have it fizzle out 40 years earlier and don't even bother mentioning it.

- the show could still retain one or two legacy characters using stasis pods from the Antarctic outpost (or just Asgard tech). Maybe Daniel wants to see how the world comes to terms with Stargate disclosure and freezes himself for 50 years or something. There could also be a time travel episode with cameos I'm sure.

- earth would be mostly the same but with fancier tech. Holographic screens and futuristic cars or something. Add a line like "even with the Asgard knowledge it's taking us longer than expected to scale to their level" or something like that.

- it should have some distinction from sgu and Atlantis formulas. the gate being functional from day 1 would go a long way but maybe they're on a mission to seed stargates in an area of the galaxy the ancients never explored or something.

- there should be two bad guys similar to the goauld and replicators. maybe the jaffa United and became more militant and the other could be brand new.

I’m doing another rewatch and I was wondering, Does anyone know what they used for a goa’uld symbiote? Like when they’re just the snake things, outside of a host.

Stargate episodes playing 24/7. So far only SG1 episodes not sure if Atlantis and universe are playing as well. Not sure about the quality of earlier seasons yet hopefully better than Netflix.

A new series should leave the nostalgia behind. The classic series are history. Remember it, build on its consequences, but the new series should not continue or repeat it! Make it fresh, make it new.

I would like to have a stargate show based around the alterans and the ori including the wraith galaxy where they split off and develop into their own stories.

Would love to see a show creating the move to the wraith galaxy and the birth of the wraith and how they all fought.

Another show with the alterans and the ori start to have their differences when they learn the idea of ascension.

Some rough thoughts for the show to continue yet in a very different direction.

Why did they bring Todd to Earth? Wouldn't it have made a lot more sense to bring Jeannie to Atlantis instead?

That being said I love that Todd has the honor of being the only wraith to set foot on Earth. At least in the prime universe lol first wraith to set foot on Earth

I started watching Stargate Atlantis recently after rapidly burning through SG-1 episodes and it got me wondering how well the Goa'uld would do against the Wraith if the latter had managed to invade the Milkyway.

For this scenario, lets say the Wraith learn of the Milkyway and head there when the Goa'uld are at their height (probably either just before the first Stargate movie (so with Ra still alive), or when Anubis was at his strongest, unless someone more knowledgeable about Stargate thinks another time period would give the Goa'uld a better chance).

How would the Goa'uld fare in this scenario? Would the Wraith manage to conquer the Milkyway and turn the galaxy into their new feeding ground, or would the Goa'uld wipe the floor with them?

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts!

This didn't really feel like a Stargate episode. I know it has SG1 in it, but still. It didn't even feel like a typical side episode to me.

Set up: In 2013 Goa'uld/Wraith Hybrids take over Dakara and send out wave that slowly renders all Naquadah Inert. Gates don't work/are unreliable at best, Ships are severely limited in what they can do. Only the very few ZPM powered ships can enter Hyperdrive. The Goa'uth(for lack of a better name) Send out sleeper ships to harvest planets. Life on Earth has continued in a parallel to the real world as most of the Technology that The SGC had is useless. Using the combined Ancient and Asgard databases attempts are being made to develop alternate power sources and a Human made Gate Network. A human ship with a role similar to the destiny has seeded a small selection of planets. Old Allies become enemies, Alliances are made and broken. President Samantha O'Neill and General Sheppard oversee the new SGC.... Hijinks Ensue
