I am a 20-something who’s interested in learning photoshop but will mainly use this laptop for writing, job applications, and daily use. My old friend has a MacBook Pro that I loved using but I didn’t use it regularly so I don’t know what potential problems it may have. Hey everyone, looking for sanity-check recommendations on my next laptop setup after returning a faulty machine.
My Current Situation
Just got a ₹2.88 Lakh (~$3,400 USD) refund after returning an ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 (thermal degradation / liquid metal pump-out issues drove me nuts).
I still own my older backup laptop: ASUS TUF A17 (2020) — Ryzen 7 4800H, 64GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB NVMe. It has dried thermal paste and lags in GTA Online, but the core silicon is still functional.
I also have an unused 2TB Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 SSD sitting on my desk.
My Daily Workload & Priorities
Extreme Multitasking: i usually keep many browser tabs open simultaneously across ~3 or 4 desktop windows, plus coding and lightweight Linux VMs (via UTM/Docker).
Display Quality: I got used to the 1,100-nit Mini LED screen on the SCAR 16. I really don't want to go back to a washed-out, 250-nit 60% sRGB panel for daily reading and media.
Gaming: Mostly GTA Online (needs native anti-cheat support), The Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk 2077.
Reliability & Thermals: Zero tolerance for liquid metal dry-outs, throttling, or jet engine fans when just doing productivity work.
The Two Routes I'm Debating
Option A:
The Dual-Machine Split (MacBook Pro 14" + Cleaned TUF A17)
MacBook Pro 14" (Pro Chip, 24GB or 48GB Unified RAM): Daily driver for work, web browsing and media. Completely silent, 18+ hour battery, and that 1,600-nit Liquid Retina XDR Mini LED display.
Revive the TUF A17: Deep clean, repaste with Honeywell PTM7950, and slot my spare 2TB Samsung 980 Pro into the second M.2 bay (giving me 3TB total storage). Keep it plugged in at the desk strictly as a native Windows rig for GTA Online and 64GB RAM tasks.
Cost: ~$2,500 – $3,000 (Leaves some cash surplus from the refund).
Option B: The Single Windows Battlestation
Buy a single high-tier machine like the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i (RTX 4080) or Acer Predator Helios 16 (Mini LED edition).
Pop my 2TB 980 Pro into slot 2, upgrade RAM to 64GB, and do everything on one machine.
Concerns: Legion standard panels are 500-nit IPS (not true Mini LED/OLED contrast), and I worry about long-term fan noise/heat wear repeating my SCAR 16 nightmare
Questions for You:
For people using mac for multitasking across multiple windows, does macOS unified memory handle this better than a 64GB Windows machine long-term?
Is reviving a 4800H + 64GB RAM laptop with PTM7950 still practical for 1080p casual gaming in 2026, or is juggling two machines more hassle than it's worth?
Would you split the workload or just sink the refund into a single Legion Pro 7i / Helios 16?

I am someone who’s grown up using all Apple devices. For the past couple years though I’ve been using a gaming laptop instead of an Xbox or PS4. I’ve started learning how Windows works and I’ve learned that things are just simpler and make more sense on Windows and android devices. Apple has a lot of power and is power efficient, but Windows works with basically everything as long as the system components are strong enough.
I am wanting to get a laptop or PC for the future.

Requirements are just for coding and multitasking maybe basic video /photo editing. I don't require a gaming laptop.
Considering my requirements , maybe even a refurbished thinkbook will do well.
But I already convinced my father for the budget(70-80k), Also I do have plans on being very intensive with the coding stuff, participating in multiple hackathons (already registered for sih), building projects. So I would appreciate a machine that's last well for 4 year and I don't face much issues, slow tasks, or needing to do many "jugaads" .
16 gb ram seems alr ( I would like to upgrade later when prices fall if I need it),or might switch to linux later if the ram doesn't suffice.

I was thinking about getting a macbook neo because i really like how long the battery usage is, however, im not a fan of the 8gb ram, the 13 inch screen ( im used to 15 inch+,not sure if i could get used to a 13 one) , and also no keyboard lights. As for other macbooks, they seem to be pretty expensive, even refurbished ones. So i guess i will have to go with a 'regular' one and install linux on it for my CS course. I want something for work only, but i want it to be pretty fast as well, not a fan of stuttering computers. The battery life should be decent, since i wont be able to charge the laptop in all classes i think. At least 16gb ram i guess. Also it cant be very heavy, since i will carry it all day. Btw the budget is around 1000 euro, but if there are pretty good laptops that meet these requirements on the cheaper side im open to suggestions as well. Thanks in advance.
