I'm looking to get a laptop for my editing needs, but I do not like Mac OS and I've been a PC guy all my life. I know Macs are the standard recommendation, but is there anything else I should look into? Also, would there be significant savings/better options if I wait until Black Friday, or could I pull the trigger on something soon?

I would like to keep up to date in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop. Some audio recording through a browser based program and through Audacity. If my Adobe subscription ends I'd like it to be able to handle DaVinci Resolve, Gimp, etc. Decent rendering time if possible. I don't work in a super fast paced environment. I do local commercials, some short documentary style pieces, longform multicam edits, podcast production, etc. I also attach to an external monitor often. I'd like to house some footage and stuff on the computer as I work, then dump it off onto an external drive for archiving when I am done.

  • Desired battery life

4 hours or so? I don't do hardly any field work, but I'd like to be able to take it out of my office and edit in the living room or bedroom to be with the kids, etc. I mean I know desktop computers tend to handle video rendering better as a whole, but the mobility to move to other rooms would be the whole reason I'm looking into this. (I will also be scouting desktop computers as part of this research process.

Mostly "offline" use.

Laptop Request US New to laptops

I am a 20-something who’s interested in learning photoshop but will mainly use this laptop for writing, job applications, and daily use. My old friend has a MacBook Pro that I loved using but I didn’t use it regularly so I don’t know what potential problems it may have. Is a MacBook Pro worth the buy or is there something less expensive that could give me what I’m looking for? I’m mostly going for practicality and a laptop that will last for a while. Thanks!

Laptop Request US 1440p Gaming Laptop

I'm looking for a laptop recommendation that could be a replacement for a desktop PC. Main use will be gaming but would prefer something that can toggled to be silent (like a ROG Zephyrus using GHelper/ArmoryCrate)

  • Country

United States.

  • Budget

Roughly $1500

  • Are you open to refurbs/used options?

Yes, if it's from a trusted retailer

  • Screen size

No preference, will be plugged into Monitor/TV most of the time.

  • Weight limit

Prefer lighter and can fit in a backpack, but no strong preference.

  • Purpose

Gaming

  • Form factor

No preference, prefer noise toggle between silent/less performance and loud/high performance (similar to Zephyrus GHelper/ArmouryCrate)

  • Intended usage

Looking to at least have a stable high/ultra 1440p/60fps or 1080p/144hz experience in most newer games (Crimson Desert, Stellar Blade, potentially 30fps GTAVI, etc.).

  • Desired battery life

No preference, will be plugged in most of the time (bypass charging preferred)

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance > Size > Weight > Battery Life

  • Info/Requirements

Mentioned this throughout, but a strong preference for silent toggle (so I can play next to sleeping partner). This essentially will be used as a portable PC, so there's no strong preference on screen at all. It could literally not have a screen and that would be fine lol

Laptop Request US PC/Laptop or Macbook?

I need some different perspectives.

I am someone who’s grown up using all Apple devices. For the past couple years though I’ve been using a gaming laptop instead of an Xbox or PS4. I’ve started learning how Windows works and I’ve learned that things are just simpler and make more sense on Windows and android devices. Apple has a lot of power and is power efficient, but Windows works with basically everything as long as the system components are strong enough.

I am wanting to get a laptop or PC for the future.

I like my Laptops to have enough power to do some decent workloads throughout the day without having to plug it in constantly.

The type of games I play:

  • rainbow 6 siege
  • Subnautica 2
  • Marvel Rivals
  • Minecraft

I am also in media work where I edit 4k footage.

Is there a laptop that can handle my work and also my games that has decent battery life?(obviously only gaming while plugged in)

If not, if I bought PC parts online, what should I look at? I’m not looking to make it beautiful or add all the new stuff, I just need the parts to make it work reliably and to keep going for a few years.

What are your thoughts/suggestions?

Laptop Request -Others (Black) Home laptop for 550-600 euros, the Netherlands

Country

- The Netherlands

Budget

- About 550-600 euros

Are you open to refurbs/used options?

- No, new only

Screen size

- 15,6 inch

Weight limit

- No limit, this is not relevant for me

Purpose

- Home use, mostly entertainement end schoolwork

Form factor

[I don't need it for heavy gaming/video editing or something along those lines]

Desired battery life

- Really as much as possible, this is an important factor

Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

- Battery life, size, performance, weight is irrelevant

Info/Requirements

Laptop Request -Others Urgent help for buying laptop (india)

I think I might have a day or two for choosing it.

Btech cse student(fresher)

Requirements are just for coding and multitasking maybe basic video /photo editing. I don't require a gaming laptop.

Considering my requirements , maybe even a refurbished thinkbook will do well.

But I already convinced my father for the budget(70-80k), Also I do have plans on being very intensive with the coding stuff, participating in multiple hackathons (already registered for sih), building projects. So I would appreciate a machine that's last well for 4 year and I don't face much issues, slow tasks, or needing to do many "jugaads" .

16 gb ram seems alr ( I would like to upgrade later when prices fall if I need it),or might switch to linux later if the ram doesn't suffice.

Budget is around 80k (can stretch it slightly).

[I m not very experienced with choosing laptops.

Last fews days I educated myself with several things.

So I understand many basic things now (ddr4/5, intel and Ryzen cpus, integrated and dedicated graphics card ,etc.) ]

I think a good ThinkPad or vivobook should do the job.

(Pls suggest me models)

Also another point, my relative in BLR, knows a guy with a large electronics shop, so he might give a decent discount (idk how much, 5-7k or more?),

So I will appreciate if I manage to shortlist a few models and then buy as per availability on his shop.

Also I will get my college id Tommorow. So I can also check out student discounts online.

If this budget allows, i would really like to be able to play some normal mainstream games( i really want to play this game Ananta when it comes out).

I will really appreciate help!

Thanks for reading this .

Laptop Request -Others Laptop for design 800$

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a new (not used) laptop for around $800, mainly for computer graphics work — primarily Adobe Photoshop, possibly other Adobe apps as well.

Screen priorities (most important factor for me):

**•** Ideally **OLED**, but if that’s not realistic at this budget, I’ll settle for a good **IPS panel with verified 100% sRGB coverage** (not just marketing spec — happy to see independent/measured reviews if anyone has links)
**•** Preferred size: **17.3”**, minimum acceptable: **15.6”**

Performance requirements:

**•** Needs to comfortably run Adobe Creative Cloud apps (Photoshop mainly, possibly Illustrator/Lightroom)
**•** Dedicated GPU would help (GPU-accelerated features, Generative Fill, etc.), but I’m open to trading GPU power for a better/more accurate screen if that’s the smarter call at this price point
**•** At least 16GB RAM
**•** SSD storage, 512GB minimum

Thank you in advance for your help — I really appreciate any recommendations or insight!

Laptop Request -Others Laptop with a ceiling of 1000 euro - EU

Yes( for macbooks)

  • Screen size

14-15?

  • Weight limit

Light weight

  • Purpose

College/computer science

  • Form factor

Standard

  • Intended usage

Exclusively for computer science course, for gaming i have another one

  • Desired battery life

minimum 4 hours, preferably more i guess

  • Please list, in order of most important to least important, the priority between Size, Weight, Performance, Battery life

Performance, battery life, weight, size

  • Info/Requirements

I was thinking about getting a macbook neo because i really like how long the battery usage is, however, im not a fan of the 8gb ram, the 13 inch screen ( im used to 15 inch+,not sure if i could get used to a 13 one) , and also no keyboard lights. As for other macbooks, they seem to be pretty expensive, even refurbished ones. So i guess i will have to go with a 'regular' one and install linux on it for my CS course. I want something for work only, but i want it to be pretty fast as well, not a fan of stuttering computers. The battery life should be decent, since i wont be able to charge the laptop in all classes i think. At least 16gb ram i guess. Also it cant be very heavy, since i will carry it all day. Btw the budget is around 1000 euro, but if there are pretty good laptops that meet these requirements on the cheaper side im open to suggestions as well. Thanks in advance.

Laptop Request -Others Lenovo ideapad slim 3 vs MacBook Neo

Hello,

Im going to start with university and I need a new laptop. I was debating between the LENOVO IdeaPad Slim 3 15AMN8 for 440 euro's and Apple MacBook Neo (2026) A18 Pro for 700 euro's.

I dont need a laptop which can run heavy software, just mosty for research and using word and powerpoint and maybe a lil excel. I wanted a laptop which was mostly easy to take with me so not to big and a long battery life, which the MacBook Neo both have. Only problem is that its so much more expensive and even though it has features that I want I dont know if it is worth the extra money.

Any other recommendations for laptops are also welcome!

Laptop Deal Need laptop recommendations for YouTube, video editing & streaming — everything I like is out of budget

I’m looking to buy a new laptop and would appreciate some advice.

My main use cases will be:

YouTube work, especially for my cricket channel

Video editing (Premiere Pro/DaVinci Resolve)

Live streaming/streaming sports content

OBS and screen recording

Photoshop/Canva and basic graphics

Lots of Chrome tabs and research

MS Office and regular work

Some light gaming occasionally

Want the laptop to last at least 4–5 years

My budget is around ₹60,000–₹90,000, but I can stretch a little if the upgrade is genuinely worth it.

The problem is that whatever I feel is suitable for my requirements seems to be out of my budget. Laptop prices also seem quite high/expensive right now, so I’m confused about what I should do.

Should I:

Compromise on the specifications?

Wait for prices/sales to improve?

Buy an older-generation model?

Consider a used/refurbished laptop?

Increase my budget and invest in something that will last 4–5 years

For my usage, should I prioritize:

A powerful CPU with integrated graphics,

An RTX 4050/other dedicated GPU, or

Better display, build quality and battery life?

How important is a dedicated GPU for OBS streaming, video editing and encoding? Would an RTX 4050 make a noticeable difference for my use, or would a good integrated-graphics laptop be enough?

Also, are there any specific Lenovo/HP/Dell/ASUS models you would recommend at current Indian prices?

Basically, I’m trying to figure out what is the smartest way to buy a laptop right now without overspending, while still getting something capable enough for YouTube, editing and streaming.

Would really appreciate recommendations from people who have actually used these laptops for YouTube, editing and streaming.

Laptop Deal Should I wait?

Everyday I wake up to see prices TOUCH THE ROOF. My Masters starts this month although it doesn't mean I have to buy after it starts. My field is business. The old laptop has been mauled to death (bought in 2016).

Info:

Country- Ind

Budget- ₹60-₹70K (80K stretchable)

$600-$700

Use Case:

  1. Moderate Editing ( Premier Pro , No AE/Blender )

  2. Run Virtual AI (I reckon it's not gonna be possible in ts budget)

3.Gaming (I fn love gaming. 4 months ago I really believed it won't be a problem with such a budget)

Games: AAA Games, CS2, R6S, MC

  1. Normal College stuff (not heavy)

Will I regret waiting for Amazon/Flipkart Sale (Diwali Sale)

What other options I can opt for (never bought refurbished so idh much idea)

I usually buy from Amazon UAE. What laptops would you recommend in this price range?
