How is Supernote planning to handle the EU Cyber Resilience Act? Is the "ship features via updates" strategy at risk?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I've been thinking about a question related to the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and wanted to see if anyone from Supernote — or anyone with solid knowledge of the regulation — can weigh in.

Quick context for anyone who hasn't followed this: the CRA has been in force since December 2024. Vulnerability-reporting obligations kick in starting September 2026, and from December 11, 2027, all "products with digital elements" newly placed on the EU market must be fully compliant (CE marking, a duty to provide security updates for the expected lifetime of the product — at least 5 years — documented vulnerability management, etc.).

Supernote has built a lot of its reputation on rolling out new features gradually via firmware updates rather than shipping everything finished out of the box.

My question: what happens to that strategy once the CRA is in full effect?

Devices placed on the market before December 11, 2027 don't need to be retroactively made CRA-compliant — unless there's a "substantial modification." What exactly counts as a "substantial modification" isn't fully settled yet; the EU is still rolling out guidance documents on this.

If a major functional update (new AI features, new connectivity, bigger system changes) were classified as a "substantial modification," Supernote would have to bring that device into full CRA compliance retroactively (conformity assessment, documentation, possibly a new CE mark).

Pure security patches are presumably not affected, but the line between "just a bugfix/security patch" and "functional expansion" has often been pretty blurry with Supernote's updates.

So does this mean that once the CRA is fully in effect, already-sold devices will keep getting security patches but effectively stop getting real new features, because that would open up a compliance can of worms? And would new devices launched after 2027 need to ship complete from day one, since the "deliver later via update" approach becomes too much of a regulatory risk/burden?

Would love to hear from Supernote directly, or from anyone who understands the CRA in more depth. A lot of us bought into this ecosystem partly because of the active update policy, so an official statement on the long-term strategy would be genuinely useful.

DIY Make or Break. The refill edition.

Edit

It could have all gone wrong. I recently ordered some pens from the Supernote store and included two refills. The idea of making a DIY pen was irresistible, so I chose the G2 Pilot body as my clone. All I needed was the 3D print insert. There was only one person on Etsy who seemed to control the Supernote inserts market, but postage ended up costing more than the insert itself.

A sub-3Dprintrequest came up with a solution and within a day or two, I had the 3D parts. However, assembly was a disaster. The refill was jammed in its new sleeve and the fit in the G2 clone body was so tight I couldn’t push it down.

I decided to give it another go after a few days. I soaked the refill in hot water to soften the 3D shroud and gently pulled them apart. Then I sanded down the outside and centre stem of the shroud with fine sanding paper and round point files. After about half an hour, the mission was accomplished. The assembly was complete and the refill looked like any other G2 pen. It clicked perfectly, revealing the fine ceramic nib. It writes as expected but lacks the heavy HOM2 feel. It’s perfect for my EDC carry for my Supernote.

One lesson learned is to always avoid touching the copper ERM wires near the end of the nib. I even shocked myself that I hadn’t done this.

If you’re interested in trying this yourself and you’re in the US, order the 3D mod part from the Etsy guy. There’s only one person who seems to control the Supernote inserts market there. Elsewhere in the world, 3D print designs are readily available online. And that sanding was incredibly small – tens of a millimetre. Good luck!

Question I need some patient guidance

Hey friends!

I have been trying to figure out how to get the plugins on my Supernote since this was Beta and I have yet to figure it out.

I've followed YouTube tutorials, the FAQ, etc.

I don't know where I'm lost at... but I'm lost. I've finally decided it's time to admit defeat and ask for help.

I have Inkhub and use stickers and templates regularly from Inkhub.

I just don't understand how to find/where to find plugins and then what to do with them once I've found them.

Would anyone be willing to walk me through this? It may take some handholding, and for that I apologize.

Thanks friends!

Eta: I have a Manta :)

I just bought my Supernote Manta and had to spent quite some time to figure how send pdfs from my phone/macbook to supernote. The partner one doesnt seem to have a good UX around it, quite difucult to use it tbh. Is there any open-source alternative for it?

Question Pen acting weird after dropping it

I dropped my pen the other day and it hasnt acted normal since. I tried adjusting the behavior 4 and I didnt notice any difference. It no longer registers a pen stroke unless im pressing into the screen. I cant just whisp away with the pen and have to use a heavy hand. Is this fixable or do I need to drop some dough on a new pen. If so which one do you guys recommend? I like to do thumbarounds as a fidget and the pushup pen is kinda noisy when Im flipping it around. (The reason I dropped it was because of a failed thumbaround above the cement classroom floor)

Disabling the Digest Bracket Feature

I love my supernote manta and use it frequently. However, the digest feature is incredibly frustrating and unintuitive. I write a lot of brackets and parentheses for math and science topics. And the workaround of breaking up my stroke to bypass the digest recognition is simply put, terrible design. Is there no way to turn this feature off? Seems a bit ridiculous to not have a toggle option for something like this. Thanks!

Exporting PDF (or any other format) with comments/digest included?

Is this something possible or am i missing something? I added a comment, and a digest, but can't see how to export the file with these added so they can be read in other apps. Is this possible or do i have to separately export the digest on its own?

Also, when i handwrite a note over the pdf, and lasso it, i don't get an option to add it to digest, only to cut, keyword, copy or delete.

Also not possible?

Apologies if this is all simple, still learning how to weave in pdf/doc/digest into this workflow

Bug : Received Ever since the settings for no contact writing were introduced, the stroke width is not sensitive to pressure anymore

I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to restore the nice sensitivity of the pen function with respect to stroke pressure, while not having issues with contact writing.

Can the team help.me.fix it, or send me a different stylus to see if the stylus is the issue?

Edit: yes, I am using the right type of pen inside the software. I can still make it be sensitive to pressure by changing the non-contact writing settings, but then the pen behaves badly, with non contact writing. So, fixing one problem causes another.

Back will not close tight, is there a safe tape I can use?

When I received the supernote, I opened the back and when sliding it back in, one of the plastic notches that hold in the back snapped off. This makes it so the back will now not hold flush to the tablet. I have had no issues with it, but now another section of the back tray is starting to bend away from the tablet. Is there a safe tape that I can use to place on the back tray to prevent dust?

Any news on layer merge for Notes app?

Post image
91 Upvotes

I love making handdrawn stickers in the Notes app, but I find myself holding back on more complex or detailed designs (especially with background color fills) because there's no way to merge layers like we can in Atelier.

Also, I sometimes end up drawing on the wrong layer 😭, and since copy and paste isn't a quick fix, it really slows my workflow. Merging or flattening layers would save so much time and hassle.

Just wondering if there's any news on layer merging coming to Notes? I know it's been requested by the community for a while now :)

TLDR: Feature request reminder: Layer merging/flattening in the Notes app... when?

I have 134 books to read for writing research.

This is not even an exaggeration.

My A5X just could not handle some of the books with their heavy artifacting due to scanning processes, so I am very glad to have upgraded to the Manta.

Also split screen PLEASE 🙏 I AM BEGGING YOU

Custom Templates Sharing some free planner templates I’ve made for Supernote Manta and Nomad (September Update)

September Update includes planners and templates with new dates and new designs.

I’ve been making digital planners and templates for a while, and over time I’ve ended up with quite a collection of different layouts. I thought some of the Supernote versions might be useful to people here, so I put together a folder with free templates and planner versions that anyone can download and use.

The collection includes things like:

  • Daily planner pages
  • Weekly planner layouts
  • Monthly planners
  • To-do lists
  • Habit trackers
  • Goal planning pages
  • Project planning templates
  • Notes and meeting pages
  • Budget and finance templates
  • Health and wellness trackers
  • Meal planning pages
  • Productivity templates
  • A few complete digital planners 2026

You can find the files here on Google Drive
Most of these started as layouts I made while working on different planner projects, so there are quite a few different styles and approaches in the folder. Feel free to use whichever ones fit your workflow.

If you want to browse some of the other Supernote layouts I’ve been working on, I keep them here . Hope some of these are useful. I’d also be interested to hear which types of templates you actually use most on your Supernote, or if there’s something you’d like to see added.

I’m especially interested in hearing from Manta users. I don’t have that particular device myself, but one user told me that some of the text looked too small on its larger screen.

I’ve since tried to optimize the font and graphical elements as much as possible, so I’d really appreciate any feedback from Manta owners on how the templates look and feel in actual use.

Suggestion: Received Thoughts on the new plugin functionality (in beta)

I'm delighted that the Supernote devs build the Plugin API for other developers to create additional functionality. Really great and innovative plugins are being posted in r/Supernote_dev. While trying them in the beta OS over the last few weeks I noticed a few things that I would like to share for consideration by the Supernote team. I didn't want to post it in supernote_dev since I'm not a dev and didn't want to pollute that forum with my thoughts and observations. I will repost if desired:

I understand that as a company, you don't want the plugins to take up too many resources and I presume it is because of that, that the number of installs is capped at 10. I notice though that ten is barely enough. I do understand that some people feel that this cap is great because you have to be really critical about what you install. And I agree that making a careful selection is a good idea, but there are quite a few plugins that add only a small functionality: e.g. scribble, align shapes and some more. In the future someone might consider consolidating them into one plugin, but this is not the case yet. So I hope we can get a higher cap, say 30.

The solutions that developers come up with, also make clear (to me), that some functionality could be integrated in the default Supernote OS. I understand that not everybody will agree with the following list but it's only an example:

  • scribble through a text to delete it
  • two finger tap the screen to undo and three finger tap to redo (like the other e-ink device)
  • align shapes
  • auto-convert hand drawn shapes to geometric shapes (circle, square, triangle like the line functionality)
  • an easy way to jump through a group of notes, not only the last. When studying this would be a real timesaving.
  • etc.

Thanks for considering these suggestions.

When writing in notes, after about 8 pages written concurrently, the bottom right page count and arrows disappear. Restart required to display. I can still swipe, use ... menu to change pages. Is there something im doing or could this be a little software bug?

Supernote MUST fix the sync functionality

Owned Nomad for almost 3 years. Just bought Manta. Synced like I was supposed: first the Nomad, then the new Manta. Something went wrong and I just lost a week of notes.

I know someone is going to reply and tell me I must have done it in wrong order or not shut off WiFi on old device or some other "user error" explanation. That's B.S. The sync should be able to handle reconciliation. I really love the user experience of writing on my devices, but the devices inability handle such basic sync functionality is upsetting.

A well designed ecosystem is designed to keep users locked in. The risk of data loss associated with reinvesting in Supernote devices has the exact opposite result. If I can't easily switch devices then my why not consider alternative platforms and devices instead of dropping another $600 on a new Supernote device? Sitting here trying to figure out how to recreate a week of notes from memory, I darn sure regret not buying from another company.

Question Nomad: turn page rarely responding on first try

I pretty much exclusively use my nomad to read documents and scribble on them. 9 out of 10 times, when I go to turn the page it requires two very deliberate attempts to get it to change pages. Is there a way to change the sensitivity of the page turn command? Or shorten the length it has to travel? Or generally get some advice on making it turn the first attempt rather than second (or sometimes third!)?

Bug : NotBug I'm not seeing a way to disconnect a Google account and reconnect another

I have discontinued use of an old Google account and just realized that was the account my supernote was using. I went to go update it to my current Google account so I could still use the drive sync functionality and I see no option to do that at all. I checked the manual and there is no mention on how to unlink a Google account once one has been set up.

This would be highly useful for people changing names (and making new Google accounts) as well as for those looking to declutter how many accounts they have, those looking to switch between different drives as they work on different projects, maybe someone had a Google account through work or school and moved on, and many other use cases.

Edit: A factory reset is seriously the only way to do this? Is there a way to back up my device if I no longer have access to the original Google account?
