TASKER New to Taskrabbit

Hey guys I’ve been doing furniture assembly for the last 8 days and have finished 7 jobs, 5 5-stars, and honestly just have everyday of the week open. I got kicked out a few weeks ago and turned to task rabbit because I love assembling stuff. I originally made my hourly at 24$/hour which was a lot lower than most taskers, so people would funnel to the cheaper guy being me.

Today I was gonna bump it up a buck or two, and noticed that task rabbit told me it’d increase my hiring chances if I bump it to 32$/hour. It seems counterintuitive to me, so I was just curious if you guys had any experience, good or bad, with a similar situation.

I think I’m pretty on top of everything timing wise and professionalism but my one concern is that by increasing my rate, people will expect a lot more of me that I may not be comfortable doing. I have a decent drill m12 or something it’s Milwaukee and it was like 100$. I don’t even think it advertises as a drill but I just wanted something weak to speed up certain parts of furniture assembly. I’m sure it’s powerful enough to mount said furniture to the wall but I don’t like advertising that I have a drill because I’m not comfortable mounting tvs /mounting much of anything right now because I need to do some more research on actually mounting safely and I saw it was good to have insurance before drilling into clients walls for liability reasons.

Any tips on covering my butt on this

or setting the tone early that I do have a weak drill but am not comfortable mounting

or if for furniture assembly, I’m required to mount the furniture if it says and I will get in trouble if I don’t.

Idk if that makes sense, I’m sure it’d just be easier and more profitable to add mounting to my skills, but like I said early on furniture assembly is cathartic and primarily stress free for me. Mounting makes me feel the opposite

Thank you guys in advance!

TASKER Scheduling error...?

Scheduling error..?

Hey guys, there's this task I don't want to do for tomorrow at 10:30am. I asked the client to cancel for metrics but they of course have not responded

I want to wait it out and see if they cancel on their own before the task

I'm just curious because Taskrabbit says "schedule before 11:59pm tomorrow" but the task is literally for 10am tomorrow.

Basically, what will happen if I let the time pass for the scheduled task? Will it hurt me as long as I forfeit before midnight, even though the task is scheduled for that morning???

I just really want the client to cancel themselves 😭 but they just aren't doing anything lmao

GENERAL $10 code - If a customer wants to rebook you soon, is it better to close out the first task so that they can use the code when they rebook you?

I don’t know how the codes work on the user end, but I see that there’s a $10 code off the next booking that’s in the pre-populated closing message. In the event a client wants to rebook you soon (next day) is it better to close out the first task so that they can use the code on the next? Or is it only one use per account? So if they already used the code with another Tasker, that can’t use it again?

TASKER Did Aurdal Assembly Get a Time Bump?

Post image

Aurdal is the absolute easiest out of all Ikea closet styles. I'm not sure when the last time I had one come through was, but this seems very high (not complaining). I had actually already been hired for this specific room a month ago when they had sold her on Pax (which wouldn't work here for about fifteen different ways that the designer ignored) and the pay out for that was two of us at only $176 each.

Did someone really tip me $1? It came in as a separate transaction. Not really complaining about the amount, I’ve just never seen this before that’s why I ask.

CLIENT Last minute cancellations

I am a student with no car. I’m in a major city.

I have to move twice this summer, once in July and again at the start of September. The items are maybe have a cargo van at max.

Both times I booked task rabbit as early as possible, 10-14 days out. I provided details. I pack everything and I lift can carry the items alongside the Taskrabbit.

I carefully read the reviews and look for people with over 4 stars and over 100 tasks.

The first time, the person cancelled 3 hrs before pick up. No message, no apology. Just an email from task rabbit. I had to scramble and pay extra for another tasker.

My lease ends tomorrow, and I booked another highly rated person 2 weeks early. I confirmed yesterday. He said, he’s ready, “it will go smoothly.” Liar. He cancel 22 hrs before on Boston’s busiest moving day. I have to book another person who has yet to see the task. Taskrabbit email said that it was canceled on time but it wasn’t.

After my move, I will be going back to rate them all 1 star. Which I previously didn’t do out of misplaced kindness. I feel like I have a duty to warn people that they will last minute cancel without any warning or message.

TASKER How is TaskRabbit for non-handyman tasks?

A friend recommended I try TR out while I search for a job so I have at least some kind of income. I've browsed through this sub a bit to try and get an idea of what I might expect, and it seems like most of the tasks (or at least the well-paying ones) involve furniture assembly and mounting TVs. I've got a basic tool set (drill, hammer, screwdrivers, etc.) and can put together most furniture, but I don't have much experience beyond that. Additionally, my car is small (I drive a Fiat 500), so I can't move anything either

I signed up for the app earlier (though I haven't paid for the background check yet) and noticed there are a lot of non-physical tasks, such as data entry, admin work, and so on, which I'd be much better at (my career/background involves a lot of knowledge work). I haven't seen anyone on here discussing those in the posts I've looked at, so I'm not sure if it's a case of those tasks not being common and/or not paying well, or that this sub just leans towards assembly

Would it still be worth it for me to sign up? The job search is dragging on, and at this point, any kind of income (and something that gets me out of the house) would be better than nothing, not to mention that this seems better than doing something like DoorDash. Appreciate any other suggestions/insights you all might have

Should mention that I live in the NYC metro area (north NJ)

GENERAL TaskRabbit got my SIN number and everything then closed my account.

I was having an issue with account creation all summer. They gave me various support messages via email. Ultimately I did the background check, created my profile and everything. We couldn't get past the part where I had to give my credit card information. For whatever reason the app wouldn't take my Mastercard, works everywhere else. I asked them for an alternative way aside from getting another credit card just to sign up. One of the support chains said they'd "create a credit on my account just to get past that part and then would be deducted from my first job", sure whatever, I just wanted to start.

They told me to do the background check and then ignore further emails that was asking me for background checks. I did that, did everything else regarding account creation. Then today they told me that my account has been closed and I need to register again with another email or phone number. Okay? What happened to my background check? All the other info? Then they end it with they're closing the chat. Great. I feel like complaining to the BBB or something will just be shouting at the clouds, but is there anything I can or just drop it? I have all the tickets still and receipts of what they said.

TASKER This One is Definitely WTF

Post image

This is a full-on ceiling fan. It is incredibly irresponsible for Taskrabbit to be randomly assigning electrical tasks through the Ikea system, and incredibly reckless for setting it at such a low price. This is a house fire waiting to happen, assuming the fan doesn't just fall off the ceiling and kill whoever's sleeping under it first.

Even if I were to take this task (I'm not going to), what happens if I get there and pull down the old ceiling light and it's not suitable for fan installation, or there's a dimmer I'd need to replace with a light switch, or maybe there's not electrical run to the location? What if I need a 14' ladder? Absolutely unconscionable.

u/taskrabbit I don't know how much pull you have at corporate but you need to let them know someone is going to die if this continues.

CLIENT Cancel Task is not an Option ?????

My tasker cancelled last minute. Taskrabbit suggested someone else available, but that person has a minimum time, which my task won't meet.

I just want to cancel the task and get a refund. But there's no Cancel Task option on either the website or app - just the option to rebook (or tip the Tasker who never showed up). The chat bot is useless and just tells me to click the Cancel Task button that isn't showing.

How do I cancel this task and get a refund?

TASKER Is it expected I move these with zero help?

Post image

Newer Tasker here.

Hired for a moving job from one office down the hall to another.

This is the list of items they need moving.

Is it reasonable to expect they think I can do this with zero assistance? Or is this a job I ask if they have a 2nd helper for the larger items such as the desks + filing cabinet?

Chairs and small desks should be fine solo.

TASKER Is it normal to get hired by a company?

I have an upcoming task for a large company moving office furniture from one office to another.

Is this normal for companies to hire taskers?

Do I need some kind of special insurance doing this?

TASKER Issue With On-Going Tasks

I think this really needs some light to be shed on it.

  1. Please fix the ongoing task being automatically left on after every future task with the client. I mean it’s in little letters at the bottom of the screen, if you just worked a long 6-hour job and the client doesn’t want the task ongoing anymore it is so easy to overlook,

    it is a

  2. little tiny switch at the bottom before submit and it’s barley noticeable.

  3. It also cancels all previous tasks when you have to cancel the one ongoing task. Example: I do 5 tasks on different days from the client, if that gets left on the last job it turns to 6 jobs, but then I have to cancel the ongoing task it now cancels all 6 tasks that were completed before even though I have been paid. So in hindsight I now have 6 cancellations. It wasn’t like this previously I think something broke in a newer update.

Being penalized for doing more work through the app with the same client should not be punishing, I ask that there is either a confirmation screen at the end of every ongoing task, or it just is turned off by default before pushing the invoice through.

TASKER Chicago work

Task rabbit is not accepting any new taskers in Chicago. It says they have enough already. Anyone seen this somewhere else? I'm wondering if I will be allowed to join anytime soon. Anyone here actually tasking in Chicago? Need help?

TASKER Frustration with Chat Access

I like the platform for what it does. The app ... isn't great.

First, it seems like every other time I follow a push notification from the app, it loads to a blank screen. I force close the app, go in through a normal app launch, and everything loads up instantly. Not the end of the world, but enough of a nuisance to be frustrating. (Pixel 7 - Android 17)

Next, what's up with chat being restricted to the mobile app? Is there seriously no way to sit down at a windows desktop or chromebook and fire off some updates, attach a scanned document, etc? I have to filter it all through a 3x5 screen and cross my fingers that it didn't autocorrect my message into something goofy? If I'm wrong, somebody please point me to a landing page where I can see and interact with my tasks in real-time on a desktop web browser.

I don't understand, I get hired for my pickup truck all the time and my rate reflects that. I pickup rental trucks when needed. Do they not want people using pickups, trailers, and vans anymore?

GENERAL Do cancellations affect metrics?

This is really about my 2nd month tasking. I’m getting a decent amount of cancellations from customers that need someone with a vehicle and I don’t have one (well I don’t advertise that). Then there are the ones that accidentally schedule for the wrong day or choose a time when my availability clearly shows I’m not available or I’m on another task.

Edit: Nevermind, I see that it absolutely does. I went from 12th in search position to 58th 🤦‍♀️
