Hi, I’ve just published a new interview with Oakland by way of Memphis producer-DJ Daria Lourd, aka Bored Lord.
While her profile skyrocketed after lockdowns because of the DJ edits she was doing, in 2024, she dropped the Bored Lord alias and released an album under her own name. That record is one of the best things I’ve heard in years—a half-time ambient dub masterpiece, slow burning deep grooves. She has also just released a new album as Darlynn, a collaborative project with her wife, on San Francisco label Dark Entries.
Here’s my favorite quote from the interview:
“But the rappers really fucked with us, and we worked with a lot of rappers in Memphis because of that. They were just like, What y'all are doing is cool, and I think they got the ethos. Because that's a hip-hop ethos, too. At the time, one of our friends joked that we were kind of like if Three Six Mafia had listened to Boards of Canada, or something. That was kind of our M.O.”
I’m really happy to publish this long form interview with this super talented Bay Area artist. If you read, hope you enjoy!
