Tool Drive Project Tool Drive Project 3.0 is Live

For the un-initiated, the Tool Drive Project (TDP) is an archive of live Tool recordings - every show we can get, of the highest quality, of the lowest generation, streamable, downloadable, without registration, for free, forever.

For those of you who already have accounts, expect a couple of hurdles when you login for the first time:

  1. You'll have to reset your password (protects your account)
  2. You'll have to choose a display name (what other users will see)

Here's a breakdown of what's new:

  • More emphasis on the tapers that make all this possible.
  • More emphasis on the gear they use.
  • More emphasis on ratings and reviews.
  • A sticky player lets you browse the site while streaming.
  • EQ and volume normalization controls.
  • You can now create and share playlists.
  • You can now favorite/share individual tracks.
  • You can now mark shows that you've attended.
  • You can now switch color palettes to match album themes.
  • Shares, favorites, streams, downloads, are all tracked and ranked across all users and sources.
  • A Top 10 page distills the sites top performers - highest rated shows, most streamed, tapers, mics, user with the most rated shows, etc.
  • Songs have their own pages now.
  • Albums have their own pages now.
  • Tapers have their own pages now.
  • Better and more reliable stats.
  • A feedback page lets users suggest/vote/comment on new site ideas and report bugs.
  • A history page keeps track of what you've listened to.

TDP is a passion project started over 25 years ago by karl and geordy with the aim of making every live Tool recording accessible to everyone. Huge shout out to them for their decades of hard work, diligence, and generosity.

Fibonacci Spiral This is just one of a few different ways in which a song from Fear Inoculum goes with the stargate sequence from 2001.

Collection My first Tool CD!

This sober CD is the first in my collection from tool, and probably a weird place to start.

It's most definitely a bootleg, the matrix number isn't even directly printed on the back but instead the CD art. I don't mind it, Im happy I got it.

The order that I decided to collect tool CD is probably weird, because I think many would start on one of their major albums or lateralus specifically, but I straight up ordered opiate. Or some probably would buy undertow since it would be in chronological order then.

Maybe some have the promo cassette which is actually really cool, but I don't think there's much that can be found.

I'm planning to save up to get the proper lateralus CD, I really want that cover and booklet.

Do yourself a favor. IMHO it would appeal to many of us who fuckin love TOOL (maybe too much), especially the back half of the album

Question What Tool song should I play in the OR …without loosing my song-picking-privileges?

I’ve been anointed; I get to play a tool song in the OR. I want to make a good impression with the attending. Now that I think about it, APC and Pussifer would also be permissible! Thoughts? I love all their songs so I feel bereft of will.

Lateralus Why is the intro of Reflection different on the 2001 CD pressing?

It seems like they swapped some of the drum bars. It really throws me off. Does anyone have any idea why this happened?

Question Which song has the most complex lyricism?

Not necessarily asking for your favorite or the best, but the most complex based on wordplay, message, storytelling, and anything else

They may go hand in hand

Collection Finally got these two. Plus bonus

Been looking to get these two anniversary cd’s in my collection for a while and I finally got them. The brand new 10,000 days cd is a nice added bonus/addition for my collection also. Now I have one opened for me to play and one brand new. I also got a fire Salival gatefold bootleg vinyl, its quality is mind blowingly good and the vinyl dics a vibrant red with a cool label in the middle which is sick looking

All that’s left for me to get is the Danny carry kit variant of the fear Inoculum ltd cd and that’s it for my tool collection which I will do a big reveal for, hopefully soon. I’m not bothering with any promo cds and live album vinyls for a verity of reasons..

Some of them are too expensive and hard/frustrating to find.
I also don’t got much space left in my room.
But if I see them in a store I will get them. Just not online.

Discussion Me and my band can't decide

There's a cover band thing at our school coming up where you put on a 20 minute setlist of songs of a band for your choosing, and my band is doing too. So far the setlist Stinkfist, Cold and Ugly, Sober, H. The only issue is we can't agree on what song to end with, H or Sober. I think we should do H because it is a longer song and has a more dramatic buildup and ending, but my bandmates think we should end with sober because it's what people know and it will be the last impression. What do you guys think?

72826 The Patient...New Interpretation

Hi all. First of all, I hate myself for posting this because it is pretentious and reeks of stereotypical Tool fan interpretation. Apologies in advance.

I think we are all in consensus that Adam is the main reason there have been regular delays with new music. Over the years it was revealed Schism was literally about the band to the extend of replacing the line "between supposed brothers" with "between supposed lovers."

Is it possible The Patient was written the same way. It seems to fit the mold perfectly of dealing with the band through the lens of Maynard. Does the line, "This paranoid, paralyzed, vampire act's a little old" sound like anyone we know?

I love Adam's tone, his artistic integrity, and his playing style. I would argue he is a very good composer of songs based on the tonal pallet and rhythms he chooses. I will defend his influence on modern progressive music and guitar to the grave. However, he is paranoid. This is evidenced by his reluctance to talk about his gear or settings out of worry that someone will steal his tone or even take away the mystical qualities he has bestowed upon it. I am fairly certain he is the one who impeded musical streaming on global platforms. It would not surprise me if any vinyl reissues are just waiting for Adam to sign off on the go ahead. He has been on one podcast ever. ONE. You can't tell me he has not been asked to be on others. Adam is a good speaker and he has interesting things to say, but this is where the paranoid and paralyzed aspect comes into play. Lastly, the paralyzed aspect has directly manifested itself into the lack of new music. Not able to make a decisions and lingering on musical concepts without completion for years.

I think the vampire act line speaks for itself.

But, what the fuck do I know. There is probably an equal chance that Maynard wrote the song in reference to coaxing a stubborn turd out in the bathroom.
