Local Cops Local Crime Act

Post image
94 Upvotes

Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin and Sheriff Kyle Bourgault have stated they will not comply with the Local Cops Local Crimes Act. The Act bans local law enforcement’s 287g agreements with ICE. These two elected as “law and order candidates” prove otherwise. In their view justice means “just us”.
So, instead, they will enter a lawsuit against the Act. It will certainly be costly for Rensselaer County, and they are likely to lose. The courts have already ruled in favor of the Act.
On September 2 we will once again stand before the County Legislature and express our outrage. We will join Rensselaer County Women for Change and Indivisible Stephentown in this effort. We urge all of you to join us.
(If you wish to speak we suggest you arrive at 5:30, the sign up sheet for speakers is removed promptly at 6.)

Pre-K at School 2?

My daughter was accepted into the 3 year old pre k at school 2 and is starting this fall. I was wondering if anyone has been through this program and can share their experience? School 2 seems to be the only location without aftercare. I was wondering if there are any differences in the program at this school vs the other locations (sacred heart and school 12)? I imagine they have to be pretty similar, but any experience you can share would be appreciated 🙏

Looking for a great bridal makeup artist in the Capital Region for a January 2027 wedding

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for an experienced bridal makeup artist for my sister’s wedding on January 10, 2027, at Franklin Plaza in Troy, NY.

We’ll likely have around 8 people total needing makeup, including the bride, bridesmaids, and mother of the bride.

Ideally, we’re looking for someone who:
- Has strong bridal makeup experience and professional training
- Has a portfolio with recent, close-up photos of their work
- Offers a bridal trial
- Charges around $100 or less per bridesmaid/person, if possible
- Has reasonable pricing for the bride
- May offer winter wedding, group, or bridal-party pricing
- Is comfortable working with a larger group and keeping everyone on schedule
- Is experienced with long-lasting, photo-friendly bridal makeup

For me personally: I’m comfortable doing most of my own makeup, so I’d mainly be looking for someone to do my eyeshadow and false lashes rather than a full face.

We’re open to artists throughout the Capital Region (Troy, Albany, Clifton Park, Saratoga, etc.) as long as they’re willing to travel to Franklin Plaza.

If you’ve used someone for your own wedding or had a particularly great experience with a bridal MUA in the area, I’d really appreciate the recommendation! Instagram/website links and approximate pricing would be especially helpful.
Thank you! 💕

Huge props to Oregano Thyme restaurant!

Huge shout out to https://www.oreganothyme.com/ in downtown Troy. Not only is the food delicious and reasonably priced, but the owner truly cares about his customers. We just moved to the neighborhood and enjoyed a late dinner there a few nights ago (chicken, rice and salad platter - delish!). When we gave our credit card, it came back with no place to add a tip. Our server was wonderful but nowhere to be seen (she’d already gone home), so we asked the owner how to give a tip. “Did you feed my family tonight and keep a roof over our heads?” he asked. “That is all I need.” He then explained that some of his customers cannot afford a tip and he does not want to make them feel like they need to, which is why he does not offer a tip option. Customers are still welcome to tip in cash, but he doesn’t want to embarrass anyone who can’t afford to. Next time we go, we will be sure to bring cash to tip our server. In the meantime, please patronize Oregano Thyme and thank the owner for the delicious food and for being such a thoughtful neighbor. ♥️

Going down the wrong way on one-ways

Especially with college students back and electric scooters PLEASE follow the one ways. I've almost been hit by and almost drove my car into someone driving a scooter the wrong way down first street. I know that there is a two way bike lane on first street but once that ends it is no longer safe to continue going that way; turn onto river or second. I am genuinely worried for your safety.

EDIT: Owner found and is back with them. Thank you all.

Hello all!

A small, female diluted tortie cat showed up at our friend’s door in Troy. She is very friendly, very hungry, and not microchipped (according to emergency vet). All regular vets are closed until tomorrow at which point they will check for fleas/worms/infections and get shots etc. If anyone knows who this sweetheart might belong to please DM me.

Engelke Farm v Engels Acres

Thumbnail

Engelke Farm in Brunswick shaded Engels Acres a few weeks ago by making a big to-do over how they are different from nearby Engels Acres because Engelke Farm is "a PRODUCER-ONLY farm" that sells their own crops. In the same post, they wrote "So when you buy produce from us, it came out of our field."

https://www.instagram.com/p/DbpCAl8s7ho/

Not even a month later they post that they are selling another farm's apples. It's unfortunate that Engelke tears down neighboring businesses for doing exactly the same thing.

Now blood red Texas has betrayed her on Flock cameras. What to do when you're too far Right for Florida and Texas?

"Gov. Greg Abbott has ordered all state agencies to pause funding for Flock cameras as scrutiny over the AI-powered surveillance devices has mounted."
