Title may be a little dramatic for what I’m asking but can I unravel this yarn to make individual balls of each color that makes up the cake? I hope that makes sense. Like divide it into the 6 colors instead of having the color changes.

And if so or if anyone has done this before what is the best approach? I have a yarn winder but I’m not sure that will be helpful until I have them separated.

I’m nervous I’m going to regret it or fluff up my yarn by doing this and it’s so pretty I’m trying to avoid that 😅

Hi! I am wanting to make a larger throw blanket and want to choose the softest bulky yarn, weight 5. I want to avoid the chenille and velvet types of yarn. Any recommendations? I’ve used Lion Brand hue and me and Bernat Softee Chunky previously and while they worked up nicely, it felt a bit too scratchy. I am located in the US. Thanks!

Hello friends and fellow yarn addicts. I want to make a blanket using a bulky yarn a 5 or 6. I have never crocheted with bulky yarn before. I want something soft. What is ypur favorite bulky yarn for blankets and... your favorite stitch for bulky yarn.

Okay, so here’s the situation: i really want to crochet Leeloo’s white bandage costume from the Fifth Element for Halloween. I’m still learning fibers, weights, all those fun things and I’m looking for guidance.

What im looking for in a yarn:
- won’t stretch over time or while wearing it and dancing
- lightweight and breathable but still warm enough to go out late October
- natural fibers preferred (acrylic makes me itch and sweat)
- ideally easy to work with and frog if needed

If you have any suggestions on weight, fiber type, and specific brands you like working with, I’d love to hear.

I found a larder beetle in one of my skeins, which was in a suitcase with the other skeins. This is my first time buying yarn. My boyfriend got me the yarn from Canada. The yarn was in a suitcase for a few days (nine to be exact). What should I do?

I am in the process of opening a local yarn store and I bought a yarn store inventory someone had been storing in the garage. It's all older cone yarn, like you would use for knitting machines. Some of it is a bit dusty. No bugs, no animals chews on anything, just a bit dusty from being wrapped in plastic (that is clearly old) for the last 20 or 30 years.

I really want to sell it in my store, sort of like a yarn salad bar kind of style (you can buy as much as you want, we will sell it by weight, wind it for you either into a hank or ball, and a lot of it is single ply so you can choose two, three or four and we will ply it for you into your very own custom yarn!).

I can't really de-cone it to clean it, but that might be what I have to do it get it nice again... thoughts, ideas, inspiration, all are welcome!

I’ll be in Edinburgh for a few days in October and am looking to visit 1-2 yarn stores (don’t want to bore my husband too much!). I have an affinity for hand dyed yarn and love to buy from local dyers when I’m visiting a new city. Which yarn shops in Edinburgh have a large hand dyed selection? Bonus points if the dyers are based in Edinburgh, Scotland, or the UK. I’m not really interested in buying Knitting for Olive or Malabrigo when I can get that anytime 10 minutes from my house 😂

First time posting here, but there seems to be so much knowledge here so I hope you can help.

My mom gave me 2000 yards of 100% merino wool superwash in a cream color. It’s sock yarn weight.

At an estate sale, I bought 20, 50 grams balls, of Maggi knits linen yarn that is 52% cotton and 48% linen. It’s a beautiful olive color. It varies in weight with some sections thicker than others, but is fairly thin. I’ve read that if you hold it double stranded with itself, it’s considered worsted, but it seems much too thin for that.

I was thinking about holding them together to make a sweater. But wool mixed with plant fiber? Does that even work?

And a follow up question, what else could you do with the cotton linen yarn? I’m open to suggestions here. I got sucked in by the beautiful olive color.

I want to knit a blanket with different squares and I'm looking for a yarn that's warm and could be machine washed once in a while.

Currently I'm thinking about scheepjes stonewashed xl(70% cotton,30% acrylic) or Katia Alabama(50/50 cotton/acrylic). I know wool or a wool blend is warmer but the idea of shrinking and filting makes me nervous😅. Which yarn would you use?

Every year I find out through social media that they’ve been released, but by the time I’m able to go shopping for these elusive cakes of yarn, my stores are sold out. Not talking about a long time either, I’ll find out on Friday and go shopping on Monday morning and they’re freaking GONE. Not a single one on any shelf anywhere. What’s the secret??

Hi all! For one of my holiday makes this year I am crocheting Hannah Drapinski's Spiral Sweater for my sister. Her vibe for clothing is kinda 90s witchy/whimsigoth and her favourite colours are purples pinks and blues, so I'm planning to make the Colour B for the spiral a variegated yarn with that kind of aesthetic. This colourway of the King Cole Riot DK (I believe it's called "Party") would be perfect, except it's a single ply yarn which I absolutely *loathe* crocheting with. Does anybody know of anything similar that isn't a single ply? I need it to be either a DK or Aran weight (3 or 4 if you work better off numbers), and I prefer a natural fibre though I'm not opposed to acrylic provided it's not scratchy. I'm also currently between yarn winders so ideally nothing in hank form, though I'm not opposed to that either if the colour is pretty enough.

I don't know the exact yarn because I lost the label and I had it in my stash for quite a long time. I know for sure it's a sock yarn from Katia.

I keep seeing different tutorials, some from back, most from sides, some gradually increase by adding an increase in every 10 stitches.. what is your go-to way?

I had a label from I Love This Yarn (Print - I think) that I lost. It was a blanket with color carried behind each other because the rows were entirely one color.

I drew what I remember the rows to be (pardon the quick messy drawing)

Anyone have labels or a pattern this could be?

i think blow flies are nesting in one of my blanket wips???
it has not been wet to my knowledge but my office is COMPLETELY swarmed by blow flies in a matter of 36 hours when there were none before and i found cocoons inside one of my blanket wips but not in any of my other yarn??
has anybody heard of this happening?

I had hand surgery recently and was in a cast and unable to knit or crochet during the initial recovery period. I used that time to do a thorough inventory of my stash, photograph and log every ball (via Ravelry) and check that all the listings were accurate in terms of weight. It was a chore I'd kind of been avoiding for a while, somewhat due to always being more interested in actually knitting or crocheting and a little because I was scared of what I might find.

In the end, it was actually not as bad as I had feared. I have 291 entries in my current stash (plus 77 used up and 51 traded or sold) and after 15+ years of daily crafting (262 projects logged) I think that's pretty reasonable.

It was a great way to keep a connection to the beautiful yarn in my collection while I was unable to actually use it.

The brown one comes apart easily and could possibly be animal fibre. Red is super soft, yellow is rough

Hiii, I'm fairly new to crocheting but I've started making a blanket so I can practice some stitches. I got this yarn from my friend when I was helping her clean out her craft room since she didn't have a use for it. The problem is that it didn't have a label so I have no idea where to find more. If anyone knows where I could find more of this yarn or at least what brand it is I would really appreciate it :D!
