[Question] Skill issue or Ableton limitation: EQ

Hey everyone. I'm still relatively new to abelton and production, and I enjoy most stock plugins/ find them to do their jobs really well. However, Eq 8 has never really worked for me in the sense that if I want to reduce or gain certain frequency ranges, I feel like it never really has the right effect. Like I can have an audio clip, and in my mind I'll know what frequency ranges I want to reduce and gain, but when I use the knobs to do it, it just always falls short of what's in my mind compared to let's say abeltons glue compressor which always returns what I want when compressing. I was wondering if it's probably just a skill issue and a lack of practice with eq, or if Abletons stock eq is not a good plugin. Thanks for reading.

[Question] Looking to minimize screen usage should I get a Move?

I’m a director and creative who works on decks and stares at the computer screen for hours on end. I’ve always been interested in music but the idea of fussing around on the DAW through my screen isn’t as appealing as using a tactile experience with hardware.

I have 0 experience with music or any instruments but being in film has really made me love music and sound all the more.

My goal is I’ll be able to play and learn the Move, pick up producing music and eventually learn Ableton. All while minimizing my screen time.

Is getting the Move a good idea?

Edit: Move is comfortably in my budget

[Question] Questions about Selling ableton 10 (upgrade)

Note: I am not selling anything from this post, just looking for more information.

Hey there everyone, just like the title says, I am looking to potentially sell my Ableton Live Suite 10 (upgrade). Ableton is a great product but I am trying to move over to Linux to get away from Windows and looking to move over to BitWig. I have no idea how much older copies sell for and where to go to sell them. Also going to be selling an older copy of Native Instruments as well.

[Tech Help Windows] I need help troubleshooting this

Hey everyone. I have finally finished a mix to a new song in ableton and have been trying to export it as a wav file. However, every time i try exporting the audio, it crashes, which is weird because I have other mixdown versions of this same song and it never had the problem despite the fairly high CPU usage (it’s a big project).

I have tried:
- rebooting the PC
- extending my PC’s RAM
- freezing tracks (not to mention most of the instrumental tracks are already frozen and it also crashes now when I freeze a track)
- saving and exporting a version of the song with the vocal tracks deleted which brings the CPU down A LOT
- resampling the entire mix into a new track inside the project (it works for about 2 seconds then stops)

Anyways, I do not know what else i can do to go about this.

It might be helpful to note the changes I did to the mix today was just:
- changing som volume envelopes on a couple tracks
- adding a D esser or two on vocals
- added 2 new audio clips (with no extra processing to them)

Could someone here help me out? Thanks

[Question] Is there any way to apply per-voice MIDI modulation? Can Expression Control be polyphonic?

After six years of using Ableton Live, here is my "only" disappointment: a lack of flexibility regarding per-voice modulation.

I know some of the newer instruments allow for per-voice modulation, but if there were a way to turn Expression Control into a polyphonic device, 99% of my problems would be solved.

I used to use Bitwig for tasks like this, but I got fed up with the "excellent support" they offer and cut ties with that company entirely, even though the software itself is very good.

Anyway... any ideas on this? I suspect Live's architecture wouldn't even allow for an MFL device with polyphonic modulation, but it doesn't hurt to ask (;

[Live Event] Ableton Live for sequencing

We are an indie rock band and want to set some synth passages as sequences or backing tracks during our performance. We have even considered making the PC the main director; to aid our drummer with the BPM, a voiceover to remind him of instrumental brakes, being able to loop when necessary to interact with the audience of something, etc. etc.

I’m completely new to this. I'm budgeting to get a Macbook Pro M1, which I've seen is reliable for Live? And also, eventually we'd like to sync pre-made visuals with each song on the set. My question might sound very wide, but outside of the Macbook (I'm a stranger to the MacOS system), what do I need? Audio interface? Mixer?

Bear in mind, with our current budget, we're thinking on only hooking up our drummer with headphones and guide the rest of the band through him. What should I know? What do I need? Any YouTube videos youd recommend ln the matter? Any tight budget gadgets you'd recommend? Cheers, folks

[Racks] Hi guys, I created a website about 7 years ago in which I host all my field recordings and foley sounds which are all free to download and use CC0. There is currently 150+ packs with 1000's of sounds and hours of recordings and foley all perfect for video editing. (August/September update).

You can get them all from this page here with no sign up, no ads or newsletter nonsense. Just scroll down a little bit until you see all the packs.

24 packs added for August/September including Loops, Foley, Sound effects, a lot of live recordings from around the world and some other experimental packs I had fun playing about with. Packs including recordings from Kosovo, Cairo, Dublin, Madrid and the Sahara desert in which I got to record a live Moroccan band playing into the night. I also got to record some Traditional Irish music sessions while in Dublin and have posted some of the recordings! Theres also lots of leftover foley and SFX from some past games that were not used including Character voices in the style of Sims and Animal Crossing, Monster Growls and Grunts which is my personal fav and Polar Wind ambiences along side lots of other SFX and foley. For experimental percussion sounds I made one shots from the sound of pistachio shells and another pack from the sound of pebbles falling onto tin cans which could be useful for anyone who enjoys organic or experimental percussion in the productions. There also some other loop packs that I messed around with such as 8bit Bongo percussions and an old pack of Synthetic guitar loops that i recently came across again. Hope these can be useful to someone out there.

With Squarespace it does ask for a lot of personal information so you can use this site to make up fake address and just use a fake name and email if you're not comfortable with providing this info. I don't use it for anything but for your own piece of mind this is probably beneficial.

Feel free to use anything you like, everything is CC0, so no need to credit me or the site. Just grab what you need and make cool stuff. I'd love to see what you create if you feel like sharing!

If you'd like to see what other people have said about the samples you can see here in a recent post I made in a different subreddit.

Join me at r/musicsamplespacks if you would like as that is where I will be posting all future packs and little behind the scenes videos. If you guys know of any other subreddits that might benefit from these sounds feel free to repost it there.

[Tech Help Windows] Live 12.4.5: Can't Export, Freeze or Bounce + Audio Dropouts

Hi there!

Since the last auto-update (which I definitely intend to turn off from now on) to Live 12.4.5 Standard on a Windows machine, I haven't been able to export, freeze, or bounce tracks at all. I'm also experiencing audio dropouts when playing a project with around 20 tracks, so real-time export isn't an option either.

At this point, I'm pretty confident that the problem is related to 12.4.5. I've tested projects stored on different drives, including a new NVMe, and also tried older projects that were working fine before. Most importantly, I had a project working perfectly one day, and after Live auto-updated to 12.4.5, the same project started having these problems. Nothing significant had changed in the project itself.

I'm thinking about reverting to 12.4.3 (but where can I find the installer?). The problem is that Live won't open projects saved in a newer version with an older one. So any recent versions of my projects that I've already saved in 12.4.5 — with a lot of work and automation in them — won't open in 12.4.3.

I've gotten somewhat used to Ableton's crashes over the years, but not being able to export, freeze, or bounce anything is just too much.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problems with 12.4.5? Has Ableton publicly acknowledged the issue yet, or is there any official information about a fix?

Very frustrating situation. =(

[Question] Need help with sequencing a filter cutoff env on a piece of audio

Has anybody else experienced this? I recorded an unfiltered sawtooth with my friend's MS20 with full sustain. I like to make rhythmic sequences with the cutoff with these sort of things either via an empty midi channel triggering a Midi Shaper/ Envelope Midi device that's mapped to an Autofilter on the MS20 audio channel or an audio same with a strong quick transient. Thing is no matter what route I take with this there is always about 38ms of latency. I bounce the affected MS20 channel to audio and I can see the filter trigger is happening way after the midi note. The same thing happens when I try map on of those midi envelope devices to say Diva's internal filter cutoff. It's always reacting to late compared to the note or audio source (usually a sharp transient rim shot) triggering it. The only solution I have found is moving the triggering source back slightly ,to compensate the amount of milliseconds of latency that's occurring, but surely there is another way?

Another side note is Ive noticed buffer setting severely affect this latency. Higher the buffer more ms of latency on the filter
