[Update] Looking for extension

Upvotes

Saw an. extension a while back but was waiting to get into these until the latest version got out of beta. This was an extension that allowed you to create a hot list of sorts where you could add your most frequently used plugins. From there you just had to double click on the plug and it would show up on the track.

I've tried googling it but can't find it. It just keeps showing me everything but what I'm looking for. I'm pretty sure I saw the extension here in the first place so I figured I'd check with you all.

Thanks for any help.

[Tech Help Windows] I need help troubleshooting this

Hey everyone. I have finally finished a mix to a new song in ableton and have been trying to export it as a wav file. However, every time i try exporting the audio, it crashes, which is weird because I have other mixdown versions of this same song and it never had the problem despite the fairly high CPU usage (it’s a big project).

I have tried:
- rebooting the PC
- extending my PC’s RAM
- freezing tracks (not to mention most of the instrumental tracks are already frozen and it also crashes now when I freeze a track)
- saving and exporting a version of the song with the vocal tracks deleted which brings the CPU down A LOT
- resampling the entire mix into a new track inside the project (it works for about 2 seconds then stops)

Anyways, I do not know what else i can do to go about this.

It might be helpful to note the changes I did to the mix today was just:
- changing som volume envelopes on a couple tracks
- adding a D esser or two on vocals
- added 2 new audio clips (with no extra processing to them)

Could someone here help me out? Thanks

[Tech Help Windows] Live 12.4.5: Can't Export, Freeze or Bounce + Audio Dropouts

Hi there!

Since the last auto-update (which I definitely intend to turn off from now on) to Live 12.4.5 Standard on a Windows machine, I haven't been able to export, freeze, or bounce tracks at all. I'm also experiencing audio dropouts when playing a project with around 20 tracks, so real-time export isn't an option either.

At this point, I'm pretty confident that the problem is related to 12.4.5. I've tested projects stored on different drives, including a new NVMe, and also tried older projects that were working fine before. Most importantly, I had a project working perfectly one day, and after Live auto-updated to 12.4.5, the same project started having these problems. Nothing significant had changed in the project itself.

I'm thinking about reverting to 12.4.3 (but where can I find the installer?). The problem is that Live won't open projects saved in a newer version with an older one. So any recent versions of my projects that I've already saved in 12.4.5 — with a lot of work and automation in them — won't open in 12.4.3.

I've gotten somewhat used to Ableton's crashes over the years, but not being able to export, freeze, or bounce anything is just too much.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problems with 12.4.5? Has Ableton publicly acknowledged the issue yet, or is there any official information about a fix?

Very frustrating situation. =(

[Racks] Hi guys, I created a website about 7 years ago in which I host all my field recordings and foley sounds which are all free to download and use CC0. There is currently 150+ packs with 1000's of sounds and hours of recordings and foley all perfect for video editing. (August/September update).

You can get them all from this page here with no sign up, no ads or newsletter nonsense. Just scroll down a little bit until you see all the packs.

24 packs added for August/September including Loops, Foley, Sound effects, a lot of live recordings from around the world and some other experimental packs I had fun playing about with. Packs including recordings from Kosovo, Cairo, Dublin, Madrid and the Sahara desert in which I got to record a live Moroccan band playing into the night. I also got to record some Traditional Irish music sessions while in Dublin and have posted some of the recordings! Theres also lots of leftover foley and SFX from some past games that were not used including Character voices in the style of Sims and Animal Crossing, Monster Growls and Grunts which is my personal fav and Polar Wind ambiences along side lots of other SFX and foley. For experimental percussion sounds I made one shots from the sound of pistachio shells and another pack from the sound of pebbles falling onto tin cans which could be useful for anyone who enjoys organic or experimental percussion in the productions. There also some other loop packs that I messed around with such as 8bit Bongo percussions and an old pack of Synthetic guitar loops that i recently came across again. Hope these can be useful to someone out there.

With Squarespace it does ask for a lot of personal information so you can use this site to make up fake address and just use a fake name and email if you're not comfortable with providing this info. I don't use it for anything but for your own piece of mind this is probably beneficial.

Feel free to use anything you like, everything is CC0, so no need to credit me or the site. Just grab what you need and make cool stuff. I'd love to see what you create if you feel like sharing!

If you'd like to see what other people have said about the samples you can see here in a recent post I made in a different subreddit.

Join me at r/musicsamplespacks if you would like as that is where I will be posting all future packs and little behind the scenes videos. If you guys know of any other subreddits that might benefit from these sounds feel free to repost it there.

[Question] Need help with sequencing a filter cutoff env on a piece of audio

Has anybody else experienced this? I recorded an unfiltered sawtooth with my friend's MS20 with full sustain. I like to make rhythmic sequences with the cutoff with these sort of things either via an empty midi channel triggering a Midi Shaper/ Envelope Midi device that's mapped to an Autofilter on the MS20 audio channel or an audio same with a strong quick transient. Thing is no matter what route I take with this there is always about 38ms of latency. I bounce the affected MS20 channel to audio and I can see the filter trigger is happening way after the midi note. The same thing happens when I try map on of those midi envelope devices to say Diva's internal filter cutoff. It's always reacting to late compared to the note or audio source (usually a sharp transient rim shot) triggering it. The only solution I have found is moving the triggering source back slightly ,to compensate the amount of milliseconds of latency that's occurring, but surely there is another way?

Another side note is Ive noticed buffer setting severely affect this latency. Higher the buffer more ms of latency on the filter

[Question] Questions about Selling ableton 10 (upgrade)

Note: I am not selling anything from this post, just looking for more information.

Hey there everyone, just like the title says, I am looking to potentially sell my Ableton Live Suite 10 (upgrade). Ableton is a great product but I am trying to move over to Linux to get away from Windows and looking to move over to BitWig. I have no idea how much older copies sell for and where to go to sell them. Also going to be selling an older copy of Native Instruments as well.

[Question] Skill issue or Ableton limitation: EQ

Hey everyone. I'm still relatively new to abelton and production, and I enjoy most stock plugins/ find them to do their jobs really well. However, Eq 8 has never really worked for me in the sense that if I want to reduce or gain certain frequency ranges, I feel like it never really has the right effect. Like I can have an audio clip, and in my mind I'll know what frequency ranges I want to reduce and gain, but when I use the knobs to do it, it just always falls short of what's in my mind compared to let's say abeltons glue compressor which always returns what I want when compressing. I was wondering if it's probably just a skill issue and a lack of practice with eq, or if Abletons stock eq is not a good plugin. Thanks for reading.

[Live Event] Ableton Live for sequencing

We are an indie rock band and want to set some synth passages as sequences or backing tracks during our performance. We have even considered making the PC the main director; to aid our drummer with the BPM, a voiceover to remind him of instrumental brakes, being able to loop when necessary to interact with the audience of something, etc. etc.

I’m completely new to this. I'm budgeting to get a Macbook Pro M1, which I've seen is reliable for Live? And also, eventually we'd like to sync pre-made visuals with each song on the set. My question might sound very wide, but outside of the Macbook (I'm a stranger to the MacOS system), what do I need? Audio interface? Mixer?

Bear in mind, with our current budget, we're thinking on only hooking up our drummer with headphones and guide the rest of the band through him. What should I know? What do I need? Any YouTube videos youd recommend ln the matter? Any tight budget gadgets you'd recommend? Cheers, folks

[Question] Looking to minimize screen usage should I get a Move?

I’m a director and creative who works on decks and stares at the computer screen for hours on end. I’ve always been interested in music but the idea of fussing around on the DAW through my screen isn’t as appealing as using a tactile experience with hardware.

I have 0 experience with music or any instruments but being in film has really made me love music and sound all the more.

My goal is I’ll be able to play and learn the Move, pick up producing music and eventually learn Ableton. All while minimizing my screen time.

Is getting the Move a good idea?

Edit: Move is comfortably in my budget

[Question] Is there any way to apply per-voice MIDI modulation? Can Expression Control be polyphonic?

After six years of using Ableton Live, here is my "only" disappointment: a lack of flexibility regarding per-voice modulation.

I know some of the newer instruments allow for per-voice modulation, but if there were a way to turn Expression Control into a polyphonic device, 99% of my problems would be solved.

I used to use Bitwig for tasks like this, but I got fed up with the "excellent support" they offer and cut ties with that company entirely, even though the software itself is very good.

Anyway... any ideas on this? I suspect Live's architecture wouldn't even allow for an MFL device with polyphonic modulation, but it doesn't hurt to ask (;

[Question] Live 12 Browser: Is there a way to search for a plugin and see all presets that use it?

Live 12 Browser: Is there a way to search for a plugin and see all the user generated presets that use it?

In Live 11, I could search for a plugin (e.g. “Wavetable” or “Granulator”) in the Browser and it would return the plugin and all presets associated with it.

In Live 12, searching for the plugin only returns the plugin itself, not its presets. This is a major workflow issue for me because I have thousands of presets. I used to be able to search “Zebra”. The plugin populates with a nested function allowing you to browse all the Zebra presets; now I have to remember the actual preset names or manually navigate to the plugin by scrolling through a couple of hundred plugins.

Is there a setting, filter, workaround, or third-party tool that can restore the old behavior?

This was one of the things I relied on heavily in Live 11, and losing it has made finding sounds significantly slower.

[Question] E-kit remapping

Been playing music for years, but only just now looking into recording and DAWs so forgive and please correct me if I use the wrong terminology.

I have an E-kit (Alesis Crimsin II) which I can connect to Ableton Live via MIDI cable. Everything on the kit is wired up correctly, ive been playing on it for 3 years just fine but, Ableton doesnt register the inputs correctly. When looking at the digital drum rack and hitting the kit, the kick is picking up correctly, the snare is picking up correctly, and the ride is picking up correctly. When I hit anything else I get nothing. I can see in the bottom left and top right indicators that Ableton is detecting an input but it seems those inputs arent mapped to anything.

How do I resolve this?

[Live Event] Playing Live - APC 40 or 2 Xone K3 ?

Hi guys,

I'm completely new to playing Live! (though I produce my own Tracks - House genre)

I'm moving to playing Live - mostly in a Hybrid setup - so can play my songs live on Ableton/controllers - also play others tracks later in same set through a XDJ/CDJ

My query -

Which is "Better for overall smooth workflow" for playing live - APC 40 or 2 Xone K3's ? Not PUSH cuz I want faders/knobs
(workflow is my only priority - not budget)

Since i'm new, my understanding is limited - as to the choice might depend on whether I want more "track control/faders" since K3 has 4 knobs - VS - "better control over scenes/clips" since APC40 has pads

My Live playing - will mostly be focused on playing songs with effects, fades etc (not too much on the fly changes)

Can anyone please help me how to decide

Much Thanks

[Question] Ableton crashes on start up

Ableton 12.4.3 sometimes crashes while tryin to start up right where you have project open but the box in the middle stays and it freezes like that. I can't even force it to close and I have to restart the pc and bypass the template and the plugins to get it back working correctly but I haven't yet to find any faulty plug-ins or sth. What can be causing the issue?

[Performance] Confirmed Live 12.4.5 regression disk usage bug

Reposting from https://www.reddit.com/r/ableton/comments/1w11l2v/downgrade_from_1245/ since that post was unclear:

I am having issues with Live 12.4.5.

I have a file that I spent all afternoon yesterday editing, without issues. It has about 20 simultaneous vocal layers, plus about 10-20 instrument layers. All afternoon yesterday I edited it with 12.4.3 (I know because the file is saved as a 12.4.3 file).

Then I restarted my computer before a live show and I guess that auto-updated Live to 12.4.5.

Two issues I've been having:

  1. We had prepared for a live show where we were going to use sync to broadcast from one Live laptop to another Live laptop, one holding the track/production/etc, the other one voice processing and live instruments. That worked fine earlier in the day, and failed with lots of dropped buffers when we tested it again 10 minutes before the live show. Lesson learned: disable auto-updates and don't do updates before a live show...
  2. The same track I worked on all afternoon yesterday in 12.4.3, now I open it in 12.4.5, fails to play without dropping audio tracks (and the "DISK" button lights up a lot). This is happening on both laptops, so is not a local issue.

Current solution is reinstalling 12.4.3 from https://cdn-downloads.ableton.com/channels/12.4.3/ableton_live_suite_12.4.3_universal.dmg and disabling auto-update until I hear this is fixed. I have tried this and it worked - the same file now works fine.

Kinda disappointed that Ableton shipped this though tbh. Seems like a fairly obvious regression that would have been easy to test, unless somehow it's really specific to my track layout or something...

Edit: submitted to Ableton support team as request 3157779.

[Question] Scarlett solo ground loop issue

I have a scarlett solo 3rd gen and I am trying to plug the lineoutputs to my amp. Unfortunately, doing this creates a very noticeable noise and volume reduction when my subwoofer is also plugged to the amp.

Any of you already bumped into this issue ? Any way to isolate the scarlett from the ground to avoid the issue ?

Thanks all !

[Hardware] When using ext sync and Ableton as a transport slave is there anything I should worry about while recording ext audio in?

It seems to work great for me. I’m just wondering if I’m missing any key considerations like latency between the start control on my ext gear and when Ableton starts recording audio. Any thoughts that might be useful?

[Tech Help MacOS] Parameter knobs keep resetting to 0 when playing back a recorded midi clip (Minilab 3)

Hi there,

I'm running Ableton with an Arturia Minilab 3. I was trying to record sounds using the Analog Lab VST, but anytime I would record and playback, the parameter knobs reset to 0, even though I would change them while recording and get the intended sounds in my headphones while recording.

I've tried changing from DAW mode to Arturia, toggling automation arm, changing from absolute to relative in midi control software, toggling sync in midi input settings, and toggling midi envelope audio reset.

If I go into the envelope of a clip, nothing is there either.

I am unable to record anything without the recording reverting to zeroed-out settings and sounding like garbage, negating any adjustments I did to the knobs while recording.

Is this an Ableton problem, a hardware problem, compatibility? Any information would be great :)

Thank you!

[Tech Help Windows] Can't get rid of external instrument latency from midi to audio no matter what I try

Edit: thanks for reading everybody fuck whoever downvoted me though, i have a tendancy to obsess when technical things that should work dont but im over it now!

using a B2600 into volt 476P and push 2, Ive tried Track delay, external instrument hardware latency, i have it set to 32 samples. keep track latency is off. I've tried bouncing the track and recording to a new track, all plug ins are off and "monitor" are off too I'm still getting anywhere from 5-11 mili of latency, and of course when i use delay compensation it OVER compensates. It seemed like i had it fixed on another track a month ago so i too those settings from that and copy and pasted but it just flat out wont work on this new track. i dont see any changes at all no matter what settings i mess with please help!

[Tech Help MacOS] Audio artifact w/ aggregate device (clears via driver reselect)

Experiencing an easily reproduced audio artifact that I've isolated to the driver/device layer, not a config issue. After ~10 minutes of continuous playback, I get crackling/artifacts in the audio, isolated to audio passing through an Expert Sleepers ES-9's inputs to Live.

  • All devices + Live set to 48kHz
  • Onset time is consistent across sessions regardless of USB cable, USB hub vs. direct connection, or which device is set as Aggregate Device clock master/drift correction target.
  • Stopping/restarting transport does NOT clear it.
  • Disabling all CV Output to ES-9 and only receiving audio does NOT prevent it.
  • Switching Live's Audio Output to "No Device" and back to the aggregate device DOES clear it immediately and completely, every time.
  • Toggling a setting in Audio MIDI Setup (e.g. Drift Correction on/off) clears it immediately — but only temporarily; it recurs again after roughly the same ~10 min window regardless of value chosen.

Ruled out (tested directly):

  • Physical USB layer (hub, cable, direct-to-Mac port) — no effect on onset
  • Aggregate Device drift correction configuration — every combination tested, same recurring pattern
  • Downstream hardware — confirmed clean in 45+ min of standalone (non-Ableton) operation w/ the same external hardware

This pattern, consistent timed onset, cleared by any driver/device reinitialization regardless of which side triggers it, appears like a stateful buffer/counter issue in how Live's audio engine handles this aggregate device over sustained playback, rather than a one-time glitch.

Curious if anyone is aware of any known issues w/ aggregate devices or DC-coupled interfaces like the ES-9?

[Tutorial] Reposting clip recording issue with more information: (Thanks!)

[More info: the issue is only related to the one project file I was working on at the time. CPU usage is super low, and there isn't any other obvious explanation that I can see.]

I was working on a song, and suddenly clips began to launch seconds late, and my MIDI controller ceased to communicate with Ableton. I hit record, the 2 bars of metronome play before recording starts, then the song plays, but the clip doesn't begin recording for a few seconds.

It only captures what I play after the point that it starts. It doesn't backfill any of the notes or info played before recording starts, it just starts very late. Not related to latency.

I was able to get my launckey to work again, but the recording issue persist. I've never had this issue before, and I didn't change any settings. Thank you!
