I’ve seen one of them that was mostly featuring the Arthur girl & Archer, but I’d rather just get some recommendations if I can.

For me, I have to give it to Future Diary and Elfen Lied. Those were absolute trainwrecks that I couldn't take my eyes off. There's also anime like Demon Slayer and Solo Leveling that had amazing production, but the story is just okay. What are some anime that you feel are entertaining but didn't deliver upon the massive hype that it received?

So, I some time ago I watched Code: Geass and really liked it, but since then I've wanted something more poilitics as in if Lelouch did more than just plot from the shadows, and the protagonist wasnt so directly involved in the battlefield, being more a diplomat and strategist than a fighter him/herself, and if possible that at least the source material was finished.

What I’m specifically hoping to find is Anime or really any media that has direct translations. I’m a very audio visual learner, and trying to pick up more of the language.

It would be very helpful to have something to watch that gave a direct translations, keeping the Japanese sentence structure. every translation I’ve found changes the sentence structure.

for example: “Tokyo To Go” becomes “ (I) go to Tokyo”

I’m hoping to find the former.

edit: Should note with a bunch of comments. Taking in person classes as a way to learn a new language and keep my brain learning as I get older. Just looking for supplemental stuff with the way my weird brain works. I appreciate all the genuine advice on apps and other methods of learning a new language.

So after finishing AoT, I decided to watch the OVAs, which I probably should have watched alongside the series. But I just didn't want to stop, as soon as one episode ended, I would start the next one. And now that the main series is over, I'm going through all the related side content.

​I just watched the Ilse's Notebook OVA. I wouldn't call it absolutely necessary, but it definitely adds more depth to Hange's character. I'm also glad I didn't watch it before Season 2, otherwise, the impact of the shocking moment when the Beast Titan speaks would have been slightly ruined for me. Still, it felt really nice to see the Scouts operating normally again and Commander Erwin giving them orders.

so i recently completed aot (twice) and i genuinely cant find absolutely anything worthy enough to watch. i want something that's gonna grasp my interest and make me stay up at night and hurt my stomach. so suggest me something really powerful, interesting and good. also it better be completed cause i cant wait for new eps. could be yaoi or yuri or simply straight but just worthy to watch.

I was honestly hoping the seasonal format would fix a lot of the pacing issues, but after seeing the recent episodes, I’m not sure it really has.

Even with the anime adapting roughly one chapter per episode, the pacing still feels painfully slow at times. A big part of it is how scenes are stretched out with the same conversation being shown from different camera angles, reaction shots, pauses, and repeated moments. The dialogue itself can feel much slower than it needs to be.

And honestly, I’d rather wait another 1–2 years for a proper batch of episodes than watch continuous episodes that feel like they’re deliberately stretching the material. One Piece has enough content and quality potential that I’d rather have fewer episodes with really strong pacing than weekly episodes where every chapter feels like it has to fill an entire episode.

I’m not saying the animation or production is bad — quite the opposite. I just think the pacing needs to catch up with the quality of the production.

Would you rather have One Piece return to a long batch format, or keep getting episodes continuously even if the pacing stays like this?

So I never saw Bleach before but I'm highly interested to start it right now from zero, but... Should I watch it in anime or manga?

I'm not really interested in the filler of the anime, but if the manga and anime are going different ways right now, would like to know from veteran fans which would be the most enjoyable experience to see Bleach

Weird title I know and a bit specific. I wanna watch an anime that will hurt me. Tragicness, Character's pain, love, hopelessness.

Tokyo Ghoul S1 is a good example of this and I loved it a lot.

But it shouldn't just be something dark, it should be an actually good anime. 8.5/10 - 10/10. I like subtle romantic subplots but not a must.

I loved Code Geass a lot too, mostly because of the ending. Considering Evanglion but not sure yet. Loved AOT and Steins:Gate as well.

Looking for some less known/less talked about anime to watch. Can you think of something you don't see mentioned often in the realm of fantasy? Anything with demons, witches, fairies, mythical creatures, and folklore and strong world building like Ancient Magus Bride and Inuyasha is right up my alley. I'm also drawn to historical time piece anime such as Apothecary Diaries, Raven of the Inner palace, Ninja Scroll, and samurai champloo. Also looking for calm and relaxing slice of life like Spice and wolf, ascendance of a book worm, Kakuriyo bed and breakfast for Spirits, etc. I enjoy dark mysteries like Gosick and durarara too. When it comes to romance I like stuff like Kamisama kiss, Yona of the dawn, Snow white with red hair, and Earl and fairy.

I am looking for a new anime to watch. I have watched One Piece, JJK, Spy x Family, Assassination classroom, One Punch Man, and Mob Psycho 100. I would love if the suggestions were available on Disney Plus and Netflix in Canada

Hello everyone, I've been working on a small daily game for the last two months: One Star (https://unetoile.com/en). Thanks to the mods for green-lighting this announcement post.

How it works: every day, one universally acclaimed anime hides behind five fake 1-star reviews written by fictional users acting in bad faith. The reviews reveal one by one, from the most cryptic to the most obvious. Fewer reviews used = better score. It's a bit like Wordle for anime, but with a written puzzle instead of a word grid.

What makes it a bit different:

- Every review is an original parody. No real reviews are scraped or reproduced, both legally and because writing angry fake takes is half the fun.

- Each day of the week has a theme and difficulty tier: Monday mainstream , Wednesday animated films, Saturday seinen, Sunday slice of life, etc. Full breakdown in the "How to play" section.

- Archives are available: you can replay any previous day's puzzle. Archive puzzles don't count toward your streak.

It's been a little over a year since we launched the AniPlaylist mobile app, which helps people find and wishlist official anime music on Spotify and Apple Music. Since then, we've been hard at work to add new features, bug fixes, and some polish to make the app even more useful.

I’ve watched this show quite a bit and despite its very good concept it just falls flat for me.

firstly the positives:
- People say it’s beautiful and magical and in fairness the animation style is fantastic.
- Mari is a good character with depth that deserves significantly more engagement.
- The first episode was great and really got you hooked with its plot and the idea of a mermaid trying to find love and learning the human world.

The Negatives or Gripes:
- The conversations feel stale as Lara is forcing true love rather then any actual relationship or conversation development.
- The Show gives off potential to be a great yuri but we seem to have a very generic one dimensional ML.
- The drama seems a little forced and there is barely any real interactions between Lara and Mari in truth except the boxing scene that was very good.
- Lara’s sister has a very valid backstory to despise humans but works with them and overall with it having been so long her incredible hatred for them seems a little like unjustified like surely she would have realised not all humans act like that and also she comes across a bit annoying.
- Her fish assistant is a great guy and i have no qualms with him as he and Mari are probably the 2 decent characters in the show which is why it’s a shame they don’t do much up until ep9 ish out of 12.

I’m not trying to hate as a lot of people love it so clearly i’m not the target auidence i just want to know how it’s so loved despite in my opinion not being very good.

Fired up this Toshiba CRT/VCR tonight and put in the 1996 VHS of M.D. Geist II: Death Force. This is the exact frame that came up when I paused — classic intense close-up with the grid overlay, the wide-open screaming mouth, and that blue-eyed stare.
The OVA dropped in March 1996 as a joint Japan/US production and was released on VHS by Central Park Media the same year. Still runs with the full grain, scanlines, and color bleed these tapes were meant for.
Nothing beats watching 90s anime like this on actual CRT. Modern screens just don’t hit the same.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Don’t worry, your calendar isn't wrong. It’s still September.

You might be thinking it’s pointless to argue about the best character when we have an entire season left of the year. But I disagree. “Always Be Campaigning”, as the titular Glen Gary Glen Ross probably said in that movie with Alec Baldwin in it. I don’t really want to wait till December to start pushing my agenda, and honestly neither should you. So let me kick things off first with my pick for 2026’s breakout character, Akiyama Jan.

Akiyama Jan, or as you might know him Iron Wok Jan, is in my opinion the most fun character of any show to come out this year. He is a menace both in and out of the kitchen, and an inversion of what it means to be a chef. He is not here to tell a story with his meal. He is not trying to create the most delicious experience for your taste buds. He is here to win. And he will trick you, taunt you, even poison you to make it happen. Because victory is his real goal, much more so than taste. And boy oh boy does he make that victory look sweet.

Nobody gloats like Jan. His cruel Ke-Ke-Ke is unmatched as he tears apart chefs he met minutes before with the passion of crushing a life long rival. It comes natural to Jan, his worldview shaped though a childhood of cooking, abuse, and abuse while cooking. Cooking is a means to demonstrate your superiority, and nobody relishes it more than Jan.

And as much as the show can glaze Jan, (seriously find yourself a girl that looks at you like the studio looks at Iron Wok Jan) he is not some fantastical self insert. He makes mistakes, he has peers, and it’s clear that Jan’s view of the world isn’t the healthiest. It’s a toxic and isolating way to live that only looks good when you make some fried rice so enthralling that the chef across from you breaks into tears. But damn does he not make that sound worth it.

Alright, I’m done. I’ll get off my soapbox now. Anyone have any arguments for who could be in second place? Remember, it’s never too early to start campaigning

I'm not measuring by streams or anything like that. My question is what is the anime that 99% of the community has watched. It's probably a starter anime like death note or aot. When I'm recommending anime I usually don't bother recommending shows like death note attack on Titan jjk demon Slayer because I pretty much assumed that the person is already watched it. I don't know where I'm going with this (not very good at putting my thoughts into words) but let me know what you guys think.

But lately, I’ve tried anime like Ju Jistu Kaisen but it doesn’t keep my attention as it becomes repetitive.
