Mod Post Poll Results and New Guidelines for Political Posts

Hey everyone,

As you might have seen, the poll has come to an end, and the results were a bit surprising to me. The winning option was that all political posts moving forward must be flaired by the user with the Political Question post flair, with 125 votes.

Personally, I would have preferred having a second space for political questions, which received 121 votes. However, you may have already noticed that I’ve added two flairs: one for general questions and one for political questions. This means you can filter out political questions by clicking on General Question, and you’ll only see general questions from there.

One thing to keep in mind is that there will be a new way of handling political posts moving forward. As outlined in the new rule, posts that are not appropriately marked as political by the user will first result in a removal & a warning, followed by a temporary ban. Any further occurrences may result in a permanent ban.

I’m aware that this might not be a perfect system, so feel free to leave constructive feedback in the comments. That said, I do want this space to remain welcoming for people who are not interested in politics and would rather not see those posts at all. It can also be difficult to distinguish between political posts made in good faith and those intended to provoke negative discussions.

Lastly, because there is a high volume of posts in the subreddit and I can’t always read every new submission, I’d like to ask you to report any posts or comments that break the rules. You can also send a modmail if you’d like to provide additional details. Please do include links to the profile or content you’re reporting so I can review it and take action more quickly.

Also quick FYI: Please always be respectful toward others. It’s okay to disagree, but attacking people is not.

Thank you, everyone, for contributing to this community!

Political Question Is no one else concerned that the United States Military is unable to conduct a 6 month war?

Exactly what happened? We don’t have equipment? We have generals saying the US is spread too thin? How? There aren’t even ground troops.

This doesn’t make any sense. There need to be congressional hearings to address this.

Political Question Why should younger generations want to bust their ass and work super hard, when they can literally look around the world and see that hard works isn’t what wins anymore?

I constantly hear people say that young people need to work for what they get, and I think most people agree. However, when you literally grew up watching your parents slave away, not get much for it, and you see what working themselves to death did to them…. Why would kids want to do that?

When children look at their still struggling parents or grandparents or other adults in their life who “did things the right way,” what’s the incentive to “do things the right way” anymore?

Now we can clearly see that greed, stepping on other people, not paying workers, etc is what makes people win. So again… where is the work hard incentive? Just not being homeless? Really bringing the American Dream alive.

Political Question Why, after all this time, are we paying any attention to what Trump says about literally anything?

Scrolling through Reddit is like watching the same bad movie over and over again. We know he’s completely full of shit. We know his followers and are a laughing stock. When will this finally get old enough that we can just ignore grandpa and his insane behavior?

Political Question If democrats sweep the midterms as some predict, how will Donald Trump's revenge on America manifest?

We've seen how petty he is and how he likes to assert dominance by humiliation, so if republicans lose in the midterms, then not if but when Trump enacts his revenge on the country, how will he do it? What will it look like?

Political Question Shouldn't Democrats TRY having a "leftist" presidential candidate?

Everyone was shocked in 2016 and in 2024 but it's not like Trump's Democrat challenger was the direct opposite of him or much better. I just feel like there is no way to gauge where voters truly are if you have these senile racists/war hungry corrupt politicians pitted against each other.

Why won't Democrats try having a candidate that will bring universal healthcare so that a fascist like Trump can try spinning why it is a bad thing? The 2016 and 2024 candidates had no policy suggestions besides "imagine if Trump was your president. Waaazzyy wazooo!"

Political Question What happened to the Epstein investigation?

What are the current developments with the Epstein hearing and investigation?

Do you guys think any of the names written there would eventually be prosecuted with the full force of the law, and will they be held accountable?

General Question How is the Lindsay Clancy case that complicated?

Sure she had a psychotic break but she literally strangled all 3 of her kids to death. Plenty of school shooters or violent offenders also claim insanity (who also are neglected by the state) but get little to no support or sympathy. I just feel like if this lady gets away with systematically strangling three of her kids to death it is a perversion of justice.

Political Question Tucker Carlson just dropped a nuclear warning, saying any president who actively considers first-use of nuclear weapons should be removed from office immediately. With Trump publicly threatening to hist Iran hard, is Carlson right to sound the alarm, or is this just more MAGA-on-MAGA panic theater?

General Question Should there be an age when someone is considered too old to hold the most powerful political offices in the country?

Upvotes

Experience can be valuable in government, but concerns about health, cognitive ability, and generational representation tend to increase with age. Should voters decide entirely for themselves, or would some form of age limit make sense?

Political Question US losing to Iran, Russia losing to Ukraine...do the Chinese think twice about Taiwan??

Upvotes

Do you think that seeing the other superpowers of the world getting their asses handed to them by tiny little countries with garage made weapons, makes the Chinese hesitant to invade Taiwan?

Strangely enough if I was in their shoes I would certainly be looking for some lessons learned. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, iran, Ukraine... Small countries using asymmetric and gorilla style warfare to beat back super powers.

What is the lesson for China here?

Political Question Why do so many mods allow their subs to get taken over by politics and political content seemingly pretty much unrelated to the original "spirit" of the sub?

The best example I have is that the FauxMoi sub's top post of all time is not pop culture related or even pop culture adjacent, its literally just a clip from a House Committee Hearing. Its not just them, the Millenials (with one "n") sub is like that, pics, Me_IRL, and ever since SipsTea did away with the no politics rule they've basically become a completely different sub

I know "politics touches everything" and blah blah about the world and everything else being political etc...

But, a lot of these subs just allow any political content even if its 100% off topic. Which then becomes the dominant theme of the sub and eventually there's very little content relevant to the sub's intended purpose

Why is this?
