Original Content Showcase Not bad for a 10 year old laptop

I'm getting back into blender after having lost my workstation computer, and taking 6 months to fix my laptop so it can render at all. It wasn't exactly easy to work on, but I think this came out pretty nicely! If I can make stuff like this on a 10 year old laptop, that's just proof that blender is one of the most amazing pieces of software ever made, and that anyone can make amazing stuff!

Thank you to everyone in the community and hope you like this little personal can thing haha

Need Help! Newbie wanting to learn

Upvotes

I've recently just finished my New computer after my last one died (I'll list the specs lower) and when I had my last computer I did the blender donuts tutorial, and I relearned a lot but now I want to continue improving and so I went to AI (I know it didnt work out) and that eventually failed me because it started forgetting things and generally just made me more confused as it didn't know what it was talking about, do you have any resources that can help me learn faster?

I know I could just fuck around a bit and learn that way but I want to learn with purpose and I find that having a direction helps a lot

Computer specs (the ones that matter):

GPU: 5070 ti

CPU: 9900x

RAM: 32 GB of DDR5 6000 MT's

STORAGE: 2 TB SSD NVME

I really love this effect, I'm a big fan of Metal Gear Solid, and love invisibility in 3D models.

I would still loved to one day learn how to animate an effect where the object dissolves into being visible again.

Hello Everyone! After sculpting over 16 Digimons (one of my favorite Anime growing up) to practice my sculpting skills in Blender, I've decide to make Flamedramon a complete project. I know some areas of the model are very rough, especially the anatomy but I'm happy with the result based on my current skillset.

If you want you can watch the full timelapse on my Youtube Channel:

Need Help! How can I relearn Blender and break out of a learning plateau?

Post image
Upvotes

Hi, I’d like to ask for some advice. I’ve been using and learning Blender for many years; I actually started using it back in version 2.79.

The problem is that, even though I have a basic understanding of how to use the program, I’ve always used Blender as a hobby and never dedicated enough time to it. Because of that, I never really learned how to use it at a good or advanced level.

Another problem I have is that whenever I try to follow beginner tutorials from the very beginning, I often feel like I’m going over things I’ve already seen before. As a result, I get bored and lose motivation pretty quickly (which is partly my fault for not being very disciplined 😅).

So what I’d like to know is: what would be a good way for me to relearn Blender, reinforce the knowledge I already have, and start making progress again instead of feeling like my learning has been stuck for so long?

As a side note, I’d especially like to learn more about 3D modeling and sculpting.

The sculpt in the image is from the last year.

Urgh... Who am I kidding... LOTS of problems...

Gotta get creative with the rig to simulate layered animation.

Waiting patiently for the baklava to be ready...

Hey! I'm new to blender and I wanted to try adding armature to this fishing pole model for animating it. For some reason it bends in the wrong part when rotating the armature. Any ideas what I've done wrong?

Solved How do I make him less "wet" in Blender?

The second image is a Substance Painter render using iRay which looks how I want it to look. I exported the textures for blender, so I'm not clear on why it looks so wet. When I apply a very similar HDRI environmental texture and remove the lights, it still looks identical; washed out and glossy. Maybe a little worse. I know I can adjust levels on the roughness after the fact, but I feel like I'm missing something.

Need Help! Is my portfolio client ready?

Hey guys, i´ve been making 3d for a while and i made a portfolio... I just can´t rate my own work as good as someone, who is seeing it for the first time and i don´t have anyone in my life who would understand what I´am making... My goal is to get a client and get paid for my work. I make CGI product ads. Could you please tell me, if my portfolio is good enough to be paid for? Be honest... Thanks in advance! https://www.artstation.com/slon_99

This has been a Dunning-Kruger moment for me. Starting this project I figured it'd be a simple box, no complicated geometry, primitive shapes, and fairly flat materials. I've been down a bit of a rabbit hole of the physical properties of anisotropic and anodized materials, trying to understand how 3D software approximates this and how I can present materials with these properties.

At the finish line, I have had to accept that a more firm understanding of light transport is built over a career. I can honestly say I've learned a lot with this simple project but have to tip my hat to the industry leaders and career veterans who are able to flawlessly create atypical materials and shaders.

As always, please feel free to leave a comment or any thoughts you might have about this project.
