Relocation/Moving Relocating from Florida very soon. Needing OTR/Downtown rental opinions.
My wife and I are relocating in a couple weeks to Cincinnati and we are looking to be in downtown/OTR and have narrowed down a couple places BUT we are not going to be able to properly scope out the areas beforehand and were hoping for a few opinions before I go wasting application fees.
First off we live in Ybor City in Tampa, FL. It's seemingly a similar vibe of OTR where it was a historic immigrant neighborhood that became run down and dangerous but is now where all the gentrification is happening with pockets of sketchy still persisting. So I'm used to being around some grime. Except we have wild chickens that roam the streets.
With that said, one of the places that has caught my eye is the Film Center beside the Sam Adams Brewery. I know it's north of Liberty so it's generally not recommended but it seems like multiple apartment complexes have been constructed around that block in recent years, including a 55+ community, so I wasn't sure if that was one of the acceptable pockets of north OTR or to just completely avoid north of Liberty still in 2026.
The other place of high interest is the Crane Factory Lofts or the Rye. I feel like that would be a good location as far as being decently close to things but not right next to the noise. But then again I don't know what that Hard Rock is like, ours down here in Tampa is away from the city but has an outdoor pool for concerts so it's pretty loud. I don't mind some noise I just don't want my walls shaking.
And if you have any other recommendations for places I'm all ears. I'm trying to get around 650+ sq ft, pet friendly (I have a couple geckos), and somewhere between $1300-$1600 before extra fees. I've been all over Urban Sites and the usual sites like Zillow and Trulia. We pay $2200 down in Florida right now but since I'm still interviewing at a couple places I won't have the income verification in time so the big complexes probably won't be too into that. My wife will be working near Zieglar Park so I'd prefer to be in south OTR but I'm not seeing a ton of availability right now.
