Answers to some FAQs before we even start:
1 - Yes, I have Letterboxd. Link in bio. But I’ve been keeping this pen & paper log since 1999, 12 years before LB first launched. I like the tactility of it. Plus, you never know when a server might get nuked.
2 - What I do for a living is not a factor. I work a regular 40 hour week. I *do* work from home, but that isn’t a factor in the number of films I watch, as I never watch movies when I’m on the clock (but the lack of commute means I *can* have a movie going within 1 minute of logging out for the day, so I guess there is that).
3 - Yes, I’m on the spectrum. OCD, ADHD and Autism. Official diagnosis of the first two, on a wait list for the latter.
So, with those out of the way…
Today marks two full years of watching at least one film every single day with no missed days. The last day I *didnt* watch a film was August 31st 2024.
And I figured that was a personal achievement worth celebrating, so I’m spamming multiple film-related subreddits with this post.
This is the longest I’ve ever gone without missing a single day.
My previous record was 590 days, between 30th July 2022 and 10th March 2024, where I managed 1,159 films across those 590 days.
But then real life got in the way and I was unable to watch a film on 11th March 2024, so I had to start again from zero on 12th March. Then I had a couple of false starts with two more missed days within the subsequent few months (3rd May 2024 and 31st August 2024), so I’ve actually only missed 3 days out of the last 1494, with 2592 films watched across those 1494 days. Or, to put it another way, 3 missed days in 4+ years.
I have no idea if this information will be of any interest to anyone other than myself, but I thought it was worth sharing here, in case anyone else might care.
I’ve shared similar stuff from my obsessive film consumption records in the past and mostly been met with positive engagement. There’s always a few “touch grass, bro” type comments (seemingly lacking the self awareness that they are on Reddit and contributing nothing other than hating for the sake of hating, but what can you do?) and I’m sure there will be this time too.
Anyway, thanks for reading if you got this far. I hope you found this interesting or maybe even inspiring if you’re a like-minded person that just loves film.
