I'M REQUESTING Cozy movies to watch while grieving?

In less than a month, I lost my mom unexpectedly and had to put down my dog (which was last weekend). So you can imagine how my emotional health is in shambles.

So I'm looking for cozy movies, but I'm open to other suggestions. The only genre I absolutely don't watch is horror.

I'M REQUESTING Films that'll change something in me

I'm looking for a movie that's mind-blowing, life turning. I'm looking for the surreal and/or deeply phycological ones. Bonus points if it's about someone going crazy. Thank you!

I'M REQUESTING Horror Movies that make you feel good?

Upvotes

So, I'm writing a paper about how horror movies secretly make you feel good and safe. For example, Nightmare Before Elm Street is scary but it makes you feel good because the bad guy is defeated and he was killed in the first place for abusing children, which was a major concern at the time. Last Night In Soho makes you feel good because Sandy's victims deserved it and almost everyone got a happy or happy-adjacent ending. Movies like Shaun of the Dead or Dead and Breakfast are just plain funny. I already have a small list, but I'm sure I'm missing some. Any recs?

I'M REQUESTING Spy thrillers please!

Just saw Secret Defense (2008), a french gem. Also saw already From Paris With Love (a royale with cheese reference), of course we have the Mission Imposible franchise, tho the 1st ones are more spy movies, and the latter more action movies in my opinion, the 007 franchise as well is great in that.

Overall I want more plot driven, political, crossings and betrayal, no need for action sequences, crazy chases and explosions and shootouts (tho it doesnt hurt at all, just that there is no need for it necesarily)

Any ideas are welcome, thanks

I'M REQUESTING Movies with that certain 80s-90s vibe

I love films from the late 80s through the 90s (into the early 2000s) where the characters felt true-to-life, even in stories that were far-fetched. There was something so cozy and realistic about films from that period.

Maybe it’s the commonality of cosmetic procedures and digital enhancement, but I don’t feel as drawn to contemporary movies. I’d love to find some gems from the past that I may have missed. I particularly love Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, Meg Ryan, and Michelle Pfeiffer, so I have seen most of their films from that time. I enjoy dramas and rom-coms.

Film suggestions don’t need to be set in the 80s through early 2000s. It’s more so the aesthetic of filming, costuming, and casting during that time that had a certain indescribable magic to it. For instance, I love “A League of Their Own,” which was released in 1992 but set during WWII.

Below are some favorites:
Bed of Roses
Serendipity
Notting Hill
When Harry Met Sally
Stepmom
Deep End of the Ocean
Dead Poets Society
St. Elmo’s Fire
Empire Records
Autumn in New York
Riding in Cars With Boys
Now & Then
Practical Magic
Before Sunrise
Mermaids
The Butcher’s Wife
Girl, Interrupted
Where the Heart Is
Overboard
A League of Their Own
Drive Me Crazy
Marvin’s Room
Simon Birch
Raising Helen
Look Who’s Talking

This is a “short” list of the movies I tend to rewatch. I’d love to hear your favorites!

I'M REQUESTING Suggest me a movie that'll leave me staring at the wall for 30 minutes

I want something genuinely mind-blowing, disturbing, emotional, or existential. The kind of movie that ends and I just sit there in silence processing what I watched.

Please don't suggest the obvious mainstream picks.

I'M REQUESTING Films similar to Slacker/Clerks

I'm currently watching Slacker and I'm absolutely loving it, I can see how Kevin Smith was inspired by it.

I love the dialogue heavy vignettes of crazy characters and stories.

Anything similar would be amazing.

Preferably with the option of something I can find on physical media.

TIA!

I'M REQUESTING What film made you fall in love with movies again?

Upvotes

I absolutely love watching movies but for some reason I’ve been in a huge movie-watching slump since the beginning of the year. I want to watch something, I miss watching movies, but I just can’t seem to actually start one or stay motivated enough to finish it😭

Were there any particular movies that helped you fall in love with watching films again? I’d love some recommendations

I'M REQUESTING Comedy Movies I can watch with my parents

Upvotes

Im 19 for reference but I want some funny comedies I can watch with the parents. Swearing is fine as long as it doesn't get too sexual for too long. No nudity is preferred as well.

I'M REQUESTING Movies where women/non-men worked in all 4 of these categories: directing, writing, editing, and cinematography?

I mean feature length films that have women or nonbinary/two-spirit/etc people in every role mentioned rather than just one. It's fine if there are also men in any of those roles as long as there’s at least one woman/non-man in the same role! Link to a list of what I already have: https://boxd.it/WqJ1y

For example: Shiva Baby (2020) (directed and written by Emma Seligman, edited by Hanna Park, shot by Maria Rusche)

I'M REQUESTING Looking for a relatable romantic movie

Upvotes

Do you know any romance movies that remind you of my situation? I’m a teenage girl, and I’m head over heels for a guy friend of mine (also a teenager). There’s just one problem: he’s still really immature. Even so, I’m certain he’s 100% my type, and it’s just a matter of time. To be honest, I fell for him for real when a tarot reader asked if I was interested in a friend, and the cards drawn indicated a relationship years down the line.

I'M REQUESTING not horror Halloween/autumn movies

Hi! I’m looking for movie recommendations, especially for autumn/Halloween. I really love the vibe and atmosphere of The Craft, and I also like the witchcraft/spirituality side of it.
I’m not really a horror person, though. I don’t like gore or anything genuinely scary. I feel like there are movies about witches, ghosts, vampires, creatures, etc. that aren’t necessarily horror, and that’s more what I’m looking for.
I also really like the look/feeling of older movies. I haven’t seen that many movies, so I’m open to pretty much anything. For example, I really liked Dead Poets Society.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be Halloween either — I’d also love things with fairies, ghosts, vampires magical/witchy elements, mysterious autumn vibes, old-school atmosphere, etc. I’m honestly not sure how to describe what I’m looking for 😭 so feel free to recommend anything that you think fits!

I'M REQUESTING Looking for unique animation movies

I am looking for animation movies made either with unusual techniques or that have a very striking visual style. They can belong to any genre, adult or kids friendly, they don't even need to be particularly "good" in the traditional sense, just interesting to look at. The only caveat is that they need to be feature length, not short films; except for this, I'm open to every kind of suggestion :)

I'M REQUESTING A movie where love or kindness is the answer.

Upvotes

I'm thinking Interstellar, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Sorry, Baby, Moulin Rouge. I want something where love and kindness wins, and with the exclusion of Sorry, Baby, perhaps a bit epic as well. Sorry, Baby mentioned for the catharsis.

I'M REQUESTING looking for a movies to celebrate my birthday tonight

i just move to a new city I don’t have much friends, so I’m planning to watch a movie with my pizzas and wine and call it a day! 🍷 🍕 I was wondering if there’s any movies recommended for 20s? I am planning to watch avengers endgame because of the snap ( like they did in new year lol ) or Disney’s Soul, but I think watching a new film might be a better options.

btw I’m not a film person, mostly I’ll watch whatever I have on Netflix and Disney + ( I’m writing this because I’m bored on my lunch break at the office )

I'M REQUESTING Any movies like SLC Punk that are appropriate to show to a class?

Hello,

I am a high school band director and teach a rock band class. I myself am super punk and relate with SLC Punk quite a lot, I went through a lot of those same struggles.

Are there any movies that are LIKE SLC Punk but not rated R, or atleast don't deserve an R rating.

Thank you
