VII - Playstation CIV7 current state on PS5?

Upvotes

I got it when it originally came out and was underwhelmed and didn’t last long. I have tons of time on earlier versions so the console-ness isn’t a concern (I think).

How has the post launch updates been? Is it ready to be given another shot or does it need more time to marinate?

VII - Discussion Returning to Civ7

Like others, I pre-purchased the new version and was disappointed. I played 5 hours then left it alone until 2 days ago. Thought I'd see how it was faring, and I am up to 23 hours now.

Any must-have add-ons to get? Map tacks or other? Not using any mods yet.

VII - Discussion Victories seem forced and anticlimactic. I have a thought...

Last night I was about 50 turns into the Modern Age and was still deciding whether I wanted to pursue a Science or Culture victory. I was also preparing for all out war, because every other civ had the opposite ideology from mine.

I was ahead technologically and militarily, and I hadn’t been at war since Antiquity, so I was pretty excited for it!

Then, boom, the victory threshold dropped to Momentous and I was suddenly 5 turns away from a Culture victory.

And then I just… quietly crossed the finish line.

It was a little disappointing because I had been having a really fun playthrough, experimenting with different strategies, and the game essentially decided that I was finished before I felt finished.

What I’d love to see is the victory score threshold simply unlock the final victory condition, rather than automatically putting you on a countdown.

Science already basically works this way: you can meet the requirements, but you still have to launch the spaceship to actually win.

I wish the other victory types had a similar final project:

  • Military: Complete Operation Ivy
  • Culture: Build the World’s Fair
  • Economic: Deploy a Banker to every capital and/or build the World Bank

Once you cross the required victory score threshold, that final project becomes available. If you want to win immediately, start it. If you want to keep playing for another 30–50 turns, fight a giant war, finish developing your empire, or just mess around with your technological advantage, you can.

That’s probably the thing I miss most from older Civ games: getting ridiculously far ahead and having those completely lopsided late-game situations where you’re rolling tanks up against archers. (I.E. Civ Revolution)

I don’t necessarily want the victory conditions to be harder. I just want the player to decide when to cross the finish line once they’ve earned the ability to win.

It seems like a relatively small change that could give players a lot more control over how they want the end of their game to play out.

Does anyone else feel like the Modern Age victories can sometimes end the game right when things are getting interesting?

VII - Discussion Expectation for the future of Civ VII

Please change my mind.

I'm writing this cause i'm sincerely worried about what's to come for this seventh opus.
I digged into my funds and bought the founders edition as a Civ hardcore as well as to give my love to the devs but the recent DLC being 2 leader and 3 civs for the price of overhaul like expansion such as Rise and Fall on the previous game is pretty nonsensical to me.

I'm afraid that playing this game to it's fullest will end up impossible simply for a lack of funds for most people, way to kill a game's community (unless they wait for civ VIII to come eventually in 6 to 7 years and buy a complete edition, yeah... what a great solution)

Honestly if the followings DLC follow with the same pricetag I will probably just drop the game despite enjoying it or end up doing what most people do with a game's price getting out of control and crack it, yeah it's wrong but honestly, paid a year and a half ago for a game at 129$ and i'm expected to spend another whole 30 for a pass containing a fraction of what was the leader pass price while being more expensive.

VII - Discussion Can someone direct me to a good civ 6 tutorial?

So lil backstory im going back to work soon ive been off gfor 2 1/2 yrs cause of cancer treatment and while in hospital I found civ was fantastic on my deck. So its gonna be a good lunch break game since there isnt a narrative I need to follow.

Now I have played civ 5 and some of 6 (ive struggled to like 6 as much even though on paper I like some of its systems) but I was also just following the adviser and occasionally ignoring them to do my own thing.

The issue is while I make these movies I dont know why im making these moves the adviser says and as I result im not learning how to play the game or why im doing things im doing im just following as im told 90% of the game.

I was watching a beginners guide but it started to get more and more difficult to follow along as our play throughs deviated and I was jumping around to various videos to find something that was relevant for what I was getting and then going back so I didnt miss anything important and it was all very difficult to follow along with and as I got deeper in I was starting to forget some of the mechanics of the earlier videos.

So I was hoping someone can direct me to a nice tutorial series IO can follow with typing that out ideally something with a massive playlist of the various mechanics I can just jump to would be best so if im like how does that work again I dont have to come 2 or 3 videos to find it.

But yeah im all ears for a nice beginner guide that isnt too hard to follow along with so I can properly learn how to play it.

VII - Discussion I’ll build you a custom Civ 7 map from a text description — free, first 10 requests

I'm experimenting with a pipeline that turns a plain-English description into a playable Civ 7 map (built on top of the community's format reverse-engineering — credit to Civ7Map/YnAMP).

To stress-test it, I'm taking the first 10 requests from this thread. Describe the map you want — size, players, geography, chokepoints, resource vibe, whatever — and I'll generate it and send you the file.

Examples of what to ask for:
- "Pangaea but with an inland sea and exactly 8 balanced starts"
- "Archipelago where every island has one luxury, naval-heavy game"
- "Recreate the Baltic region, 6 players, historical starts"

Only rule: post your request publicly so others can see what's possible.

If this ends up being useful I might turn it into a proper tool — but right now I just want to see if the generated maps are actually fun to play. Feedback on the results is the payment.

VI - Other Leaders not available even though all dlc downloaded

I have civ vi for the switch and have purchased all expansion, packs, and dlc. However, certain leaders from specific packs, like Abraham Lincoln, do not appear. I have everything on PC through steam and I can start any game with Abraham Lincoln and every other leader, but the leaders from the great negotiators pack and other packs don't even show up on the switch

Question What is the most dangerous ai leader on an island plates map? (Civ 6)

I plan to play a game later with the idea of it being an island sea based game and I want at least one of the ai to be a fundamentally major threat. I'm creating a leader pool with those ai that will take up at least 1 of the 5 ai, so that at least one enemy ai is dangerous.

I'll be playing as dido. the map is a got lakes island plate map at standard size with a few slight tweaks to make things more fun (like everyone starts on seperate islands).

I know the ai has real trouble with maps like these so I would appreciate anyone with experience playing these sort of island games that have learned firat hand which ai doesn't do poorly or even excells when in this sort of map.

VII - Discussion Is this normal?

So after not play Civ VII for a year I got the itch to play again. I jumped back in at deity, got to the modern age and on turn one I could see that both Ashoka and Xerxes were building Oxford University on the wonder screen mod, so I thought it might be bugging out but nope I checked their cities and they were indeed building it.

Surely it should not be possible to be building wonders on turn one of a new age right? Or am I missing something here?

VII - Strategy How to avoid war

I often find that I have a close neighbor and extra production and military units that war is always too enticing. Yet I find that the happiness hit and the cost of not being good enough the territorial expansion is not worth it.

What do you guys recommend to do with that extra production? The research projects? I often find that my secondary cities aren’t competing for wonders and I need to apply that somewhere else.

I need to refine my gameplay more before being so militaristic. Tips for a defensive only approach?

VII - Discussion If the devs actually did throw in an age between Antiquity and Exploration how would you move different Civs around and what would you add to bridge new gaps?

While I think if we do see a 4th age it'll be after the Modern I hear a lot of people talking about one between existing ages instead which I can understand the desire for too. If we had an age that was the 400s to the 1200s and another from maybe the 1400s to the mid 1700s how would you recategorize what civs we already have?

Personally I think i'd move civs like the Missippians, Khmer and Maya up an age and throw in the Olmecs as a predecesor for the Maya. I'd probably Move the Normans to this second age and throw in a pre industrial British and French civ. I'd probably move the Ottomans to the Exploration age as well and let the Byzantines have the spotlight in the second age age a Greek or Roman Successor.

V - Other Civ 5 Vox Populi Crash

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I just bought a new gaming laptop because Vox Populi wasn't working properly on my old one. Was excited to start playing and was really enjoying my playthrough. Got to turn 280 (Marathon) on my first session. Today I tried loading up the game and have been encountering this error page. I tried checking file integrity and it said 4 files were reaquired. Booted it up again and still got this crash. Then I tried both Direct 9 and Direct 10/11 and still got the crash.

Anyone know how to fix this?

VII - Strategy [Civ 7] How Do I Deal With AI Unit Spam

I’ve had a repeated issue where the AI, be it in preparation for war, or during the war, in antiquity, is able to spam out a metric shit ton of units. As in, having like 50 units by turn 30. It starts out with slingers that annihilate my forces before i even get close enough to attack them. And once they research the wheel, it’a chariots that seemingly refuse to die.

This overall leads to a lot of my runs being completely miserable to play. In domination runs, it leads to me fighting a near endless stalemate and maybe taking one or two cities if I’m lucky. And for other runs, the AI usually ends up forcing me into war and forward settling me, especially as i frequently get spawns with very little room to expand. Usually forcing me to put all my resources into barely holding onto my towns and cities and causing me to ultimately accomplish nothing the entire antiquity except survive.

What can i do to counteract this spam? Is there something I’m missing? And before you guys asked, during a game as Xerxes, i tried declaring war on them while my army was still stronger, and this didn’t work because the AI is able to spam out these huge hoards in less than 10 turns. I also had a recent run with Harriet where i also tried to use sanctions and got a war weariness stack of 9 on the AI that did this to me last game. This changed absolutely nothing, and i ended up getting steamrolled. I play on immortal of that helps.

(Regarding rule 4, idk of this is common and the uk doesnt allow imugur)

I am recently coming back to civ7 after fixing an issue with my console that did not allow me to play certain games, when i make improvements, it does not give extra yields, for example the mine is only giving 1 food, and that is all

Discussion The Great Library Across The Iterations

The Great Library is the sixth wonder that has appeared in all seven iterations of Civilization, and the last in this series. Although it hasn't changed much in its focus, its special powers, and its overall strength has varied considerably. Until Civ 7, it has often allowed the player to turn attention to priorities other than science, or perhaps to beeline technologies while staying current in all the others. Was one of these better than the others?

Civ 1: Receive any technology that any other two civilizations have developed, until invention of the University.

Civ 2: Receive any technology that any other two civilizations have developed, until discovery of Electricity.

Civ 3: Receive any technology that any other two civilizations have developed, until invention of Education. +6 Culture.

Civ 4: +2 scientists until discovery of Scientific Method; +2 Great Scientist Points per turn; +8 culture per turn.

Civ 5: +1 free technology; Free library in city where it is built; +2 slots for Great Works of Writing; +3 Science; +1 Culture; +1 Great Scientist Points.

Civ 6: +2 Science per turn; +1 Great Scientist Point per turn; +2 slots for Great Works of Writing. In Vanilla Civ 6: Receive boosts to all Ancient and Classical era technologies; in Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm: Receive a random tech boost each time a rival recruits a Great Scientist.

Civ 7: +4  Science per turn; +1  Science on all science buildings; +3 Great Work Slots; +3 Innovations.

With Mach’s ability to declare war unpunished I think I chose the worst dude to ally with in the whole game…

How many times have you had the Machiavelli AI declare a “unsurprising surprise war”? Me - more than a few.

VII - Screenshot Dismemberment of an empire: poor Lafayette committed the grave mistake of spawning between three awful neighbors

Gotta handle it to him, he gave a good fight and had an enormous army, but i retreated after he decimated my invading force, then he ran to defend the other side of his empire against Genghis and i returned to raid and reconquer Korinthos from him. I have to add that he ran to fight me after defeating lakshmibai at Rouen. We really are shitty neighbors.
