I often find that I have a close neighbor and extra production and military units that war is always too enticing. Yet I find that the happiness hit and the cost of not being good enough the territorial expansion is not worth it.
What do you guys recommend to do with that extra production? The research projects? I often find that my secondary cities aren’t competing for wonders and I need to apply that somewhere else.
I need to refine my gameplay more before being so militaristic. Tips for a defensive only approach?

I plan to play a game later with the idea of it being an island sea based game and I want at least one of the ai to be a fundamentally major threat. I'm creating a leader pool with those ai that will take up at least 1 of the 5 ai, so that at least one enemy ai is dangerous.
I'll be playing as dido. the map is a got lakes island plate map at standard size with a few slight tweaks to make things more fun (like everyone starts on seperate islands).
I know the ai has real trouble with maps like these so I would appreciate anyone with experience playing these sort of island games that have learned firat hand which ai doesn't do poorly or even excells when in this sort of map.

So lil backstory im going back to work soon ive been off gfor 2 1/2 yrs cause of cancer treatment and while in hospital I found civ was fantastic on my deck. So its gonna be a good lunch break game since there isnt a narrative I need to follow.
Now I have played civ 5 and some of 6 (ive struggled to like 6 as much even though on paper I like some of its systems) but I was also just following the adviser and occasionally ignoring them to do my own thing.
The issue is while I make these movies I dont know why im making these moves the adviser says and as I result im not learning how to play the game or why im doing things im doing im just following as im told 90% of the game.
I was watching a beginners guide but it started to get more and more difficult to follow along as our play throughs deviated and I was jumping around to various videos to find something that was relevant for what I was getting and then going back so I didnt miss anything important and it was all very difficult to follow along with and as I got deeper in I was starting to forget some of the mechanics of the earlier videos.
So I was hoping someone can direct me to a nice tutorial series IO can follow with typing that out ideally something with a massive playlist of the various mechanics I can just jump to would be best so if im like how does that work again I dont have to come 2 or 3 videos to find it.
But yeah im all ears for a nice beginner guide that isnt too hard to follow along with so I can properly learn how to play it.

So after not play Civ VII for a year I got the itch to play again. I jumped back in at deity, got to the modern age and on turn one I could see that both Ashoka and Xerxes were building Oxford University on the wonder screen mod, so I thought it might be bugging out but nope I checked their cities and they were indeed building it.
Surely it should not be possible to be building wonders on turn one of a new age right? Or am I missing something here?

I got it when it originally came out and was underwhelmed and didn’t last long. I have tons of time on earlier versions so the console-ness isn’t a concern (I think).
How has the post launch updates been? Is it ready to be given another shot or does it need more time to marinate?

Like others, I pre-purchased the new version and was disappointed. I played 5 hours then left it alone until 2 days ago. Thought I'd see how it was faring, and I am up to 23 hours now.
Any must-have add-ons to get? Map tacks or other? Not using any mods yet.

I have civ vi for the switch and have purchased all expansion, packs, and dlc. However, certain leaders from specific packs, like Abraham Lincoln, do not appear. I have everything on PC through steam and I can start any game with Abraham Lincoln and every other leader, but the leaders from the great negotiators pack and other packs don't even show up on the switch

I'm experimenting with a pipeline that turns a plain-English description into a playable Civ 7 map (built on top of the community's format reverse-engineering — credit to Civ7Map/YnAMP).
To stress-test it, I'm taking the first 10 requests from this thread. Describe the map you want — size, players, geography, chokepoints, resource vibe, whatever — and I'll generate it and send you the file.
Examples of what to ask for:
- "Pangaea but with an inland sea and exactly 8 balanced starts"
- "Archipelago where every island has one luxury, naval-heavy game"
- "Recreate the Baltic region, 6 players, historical starts"
Only rule: post your request publicly so others can see what's possible.
If this ends up being useful I might turn it into a proper tool — but right now I just want to see if the generated maps are actually fun to play. Feedback on the results is the payment.

Last night I was about 50 turns into the Modern Age and was still deciding whether I wanted to pursue a Science or Culture victory. I was also preparing for all out war, because every other civ had the opposite ideology from mine.
I was ahead technologically and militarily, and I hadn’t been at war since Antiquity, so I was pretty excited for it!
Then, boom, the victory threshold dropped to Momentous and I was suddenly 5 turns away from a Culture victory.
And then I just… quietly crossed the finish line.
It was a little disappointing because I had been having a really fun playthrough, experimenting with different strategies, and the game essentially decided that I was finished before I felt finished.
What I’d love to see is the victory score threshold simply unlock the final victory condition, rather than automatically putting you on a countdown.
Science already basically works this way: you can meet the requirements, but you still have to launch the spaceship to actually win.
I wish the other victory types had a similar final project:
Once you cross the required victory score threshold, that final project becomes available. If you want to win immediately, start it. If you want to keep playing for another 30–50 turns, fight a giant war, finish developing your empire, or just mess around with your technological advantage, you can.
That’s probably the thing I miss most from older Civ games: getting ridiculously far ahead and having those completely lopsided late-game situations where you’re rolling tanks up against archers. (I.E. Civ Revolution)
I don’t necessarily want the victory conditions to be harder. I just want the player to decide when to cross the finish line once they’ve earned the ability to win.
It seems like a relatively small change that could give players a lot more control over how they want the end of their game to play out.
Does anyone else feel like the Modern Age victories can sometimes end the game right when things are getting interesting?

Please change my mind.
I'm writing this cause i'm sincerely worried about what's to come for this seventh opus.
I digged into my funds and bought the founders edition as a Civ hardcore as well as to give my love to the devs but the recent DLC being 2 leader and 3 civs for the price of overhaul like expansion such as Rise and Fall on the previous game is pretty nonsensical to me.
I'm afraid that playing this game to it's fullest will end up impossible simply for a lack of funds for most people, way to kill a game's community (unless they wait for civ VIII to come eventually in 6 to 7 years and buy a complete edition, yeah... what a great solution)
Honestly if the followings DLC follow with the same pricetag I will probably just drop the game despite enjoying it or end up doing what most people do with a game's price getting out of control and crack it, yeah it's wrong but honestly, paid a year and a half ago for a game at 129$ and i'm expected to spend another whole 30 for a pass containing a fraction of what was the leader pass price while being more expensive.
