Watching the news. Lots of schools closed Wednesday, 9/2. Is this due to the heat?

I recently got a fine in the mail from the Willoughby Hills Speed Enforcement Program which claims I was going 75MPH in a 60MPH zone on I90. The fine says it is part of the Officer Operated Enforcement Program and based on the photos angles I believe they were taken by an officer, rather than an automated camera.

I have seen previous posts where people claim to ignore these, they go to collections, then eventually go away. My question is whether anyone has had Willoughby actually try to take them to municipal court? The following article claims that Willoughby automatically files all of these violations with their municipal court, although I could not find any source or anyone else making the same claim.

Any insight is greatly appreciated, especially if anyone has dealt with this more recently, as the article is dated for March 2026.

While out walking Moo I saw a man taping plastic to the driver's side window of his pickup truck on Herman Street Then I saw a pile of broken glass on W. 58th. Seems to me someone was breaking into cars last night. Sooooo glad I've loaned out my vehicle to a friend! Anyone else burglarized?

So, my 23-year old son and I are coming up to Cleveland from Louisville on Thursday (9/3) to see the Guards (my favorite team) play the Blue Jays (his favorite team). I've been to Cleveland many times because my birth mother lives there (Tremont area, actually). We're staying at the Hyatt at the Arcade so we can walk to the game.

My question to you guys is: I think someone on here recently mentioned a lot of construction in the downtown area. Is there anything I need to be aware of, traffic-wise?

I gotta tell ya', I can't wait to take him to 'The Jake' and to show him my favorite spots around town. He plays Special Olympics softball (I'm one of the coaches) and he's a savant with baseball stats (he's autistic), so he's gonna be rattling off numbers the whole time! Haha!

I know the subject is controversial but we’re hoping to take our 2 year old to see some of the air show this weekend. I think attending the event itself would be too much for the little one so I’m wondering what park or spot nearby we could go to for a couple hours to see the jets? Where can we park? How long of a walk to a good spot is it? I seem to remember people hanging out kind of just off 90 before dead man’s curve in a grassy area but I don’t know the logistics of how to get there and if it would be practical with a 2 year old or not.

I found this lost dog tonight on Clifton near W117th. Just wanted to spread the word in case anyone is or knows the owner. He had a red collar on with no tags and was taken to the Lakewood Animal Shelter.

He’s very sweet but skittish around men and looks like he’s been lost for a while due to the skinniness and some wounds on his front paws.

Has anyone who lives in a very old house hired someone to find all the mouse entryways and fix them? I’ve always lived in old houses and gone. Y the philosophy that it’s impossible to actually mouse proof your house and just killed mice as they enter. This year, we have killed at least 10 mice and I am over it. Is there a company that is really good at this? Thanks.

Is a water remediation company that randomly drills anywhere and into wood and screws based a good company?

All summer I haven’t been able to step out of my house and into my garage for 5 minutes without being bit. For the last 7 years that I’ve lived in the Heights, I’ve never had it anywhere near this bad. Not sure if the climate is affecting it or if they’re just not spraying for mosquitoes as much as they used to. Not sure if it’s a county-wide program or city program, but we did get a new mayor this year so I wonder if they cut back on spraying?

Either way, I’m so tired of these motherfuckers.

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone had a good photographer recommendation for some photos to be taken this autumn/winter in a metropark or CVNP? Ideally a few of our family, and a few of me solo for work (not an indoor headshot session, just part of the same shoot. I don't have the budget to do two seperate sessions.

Since 2021, I have watched a vocal group of Mentor residents become more and more hostile toward their own public schools. School board meetings have been filled with political claims presented as facts. Facebook posts have accused teachers, board members, and other employees of “brainwashing” students or encouraging gender dysphoria, often with little or no evidence. I even watched a Mentor resident spread the modern day urban legend about a student identifying as a cat and being given a school-approved litter box at a Mentor elementary school.

During those same years, I had the chance to see Mentor Schools from the inside. As a temporary district employee, I saw what happened behind the scenes. What I saw was very different from the school district being described on social media and at board meetings.

I saw employees who took pride in their work and their role in students’ success. I watched teachers cry because they cared so deeply about their students. I watched Mentor athletics continue to succeed, win titles, and help student-athletes reach the collegiate level. I saw impressive technology being used in classrooms. I also watched Mentor Schools continue to show strong academic results on state tests and Ohio’s school report cards.

That does not mean Mentor Schools should be free from criticism. Public schools should be questioned and held accountable. Criticism based on facts can make a school district better, whereas widespread local misinformation coupled with hasty decisions can tear one down.

Over time, those attacks have happened alongside serious problems for the district. Mentor Schools has lost many students to private and Catholic schools, helped in part by Ohio’s expansion of publicly funded school vouchers. At the same time, Mentor voters have rejected school levies, leaving the district with fewer financial resources. Ultimately undoing the hard work of generations of taxpayers employees and residents alike.

Mentor is now beginning to face that reality. A community cannot spend years attacking its schools, refusing them resources, and encouraging families to leave, then be surprised when those schools become weaker.

I write this post not as a journalist looking for clickbaity, divisive, party line riding BS. But as a parent, an educator, and a citizen. Only time will tell how these actions and choices ultimately play out. But with shrinking resources and what might be a sparked exodus of school district employees, it’s possible that Mentor Exempted Village School District best days are behind them.

If you don't like pits, that is totally fine. But you probably know someone who does and would be able to foster or adopt.

The hatred for pits does not prevent people from breeding them and does not help struggling owners better tame them.

I 100% agree that this type of dog should never be left alone with a child or vulnerable person and they should ALWAYS be walked on leash and supervised. They're no Chihuahuas.

But they are animals who had no choice to be born and the vast majority of them can be manageable pets when placed in the right home and given some patience.

I’ve seen a few posts from folks looking for local art lessons/workshops/etc. for kids and adults, so I wanted to share that there’s a new community art space opening on the corner of Lee and Van Aken in Shaker Heights called Neighbors.

They’ll have a little shop in the front and classes/workshops in the back, with offerings for both kids and adults.

Full disclosure that I’ll be teaching there, so I’m a little biased, but I’m excited to see a space like this opening up in the area. Figured others here might be interested too!
