I'm part of the team at Clevy, and I wanted to share a mechanical keyboard we've developed specifically with accessibility in mind.

Clevy is designed for people who may find a conventional keyboard physically, visually, or cognitively difficult to use. It was originally developed about 20 years ago as a “my first keyboard” for children, and has since evolved for a much wider range of users, together with teachers, therapists, parents, and other professionals.

One of the main differences is that Clevy isn't limited to QWERTY. It can be configured with different layouts, including:

• ABCDE
• QWERTY
• AZERTY
• QWERTZ
• and other layouts

There are also different language configurations, as well as uppercase or lowercase versions. The example in the picture is the lowercase ABCDE layout, but this is just one of many options.

Some of the accessibility features include:

• 20 × 20 mm keycaps, with more space between keys
• Large, high-visibility lettering (around 4× the size of standard keyboard lettering)
• Color coding to make groups such as vowels, consonants, and numbers easier to identify
• Mechanical ALPS switches for clear tactile feedback
• An optional keyguard to reduce accidental key presses and make individual keys easier to target
• Configurable LED feedback, including blinking on each key press, which can help users with reduced tactile sensitivity
• Add-ons such as Clevy Discover, designed to support early literacy and language learning for specific groups of children
• Spill-proof construction (though it is not waterproof)

We're mainly sharing this to raise awareness that accessible mechanical keyboards exist and to hear from the mechanical keyboard and accessibility communities.

If you work in occupational therapy, special education, assistive technology, accessible hardware or simply have experience using keyboards with different accessibility needs, we'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

My sister recently had a massive stroke that essentially left her paralyzed from the neck down. I’m looking for any sort of software or hardware I can setup for her to be able to successfully browse the web or other day to day activities. Any help is appreciated.

Just saw demonstration of this product online by the creator and it looks promising, however, it's pretty new and I don't see a lot of reviews for it online. I wanna make sure it's worth the purchase before spending the 300 bucks on it. It's supposed to be a type of gaming foot pedal, similar to those hoverboards you ride, that allow for you to play games with your feet and move your character without need for a joystick or keyboard.

I was not born with my disability, I got some permanent nerve damage in my hands after developing a lesion in the C portion of my spine.

One of the things I have realized is that vibration on controllers + my hands is a terrible feeling and I am starting to realize that a lot of games have so much vibration it is causing me so much pain!! I am replaying MGS4 now that it is on PC and damn; these boss fights got me using my guns enough that the vibration 'recoil' got me pausing halfway through fights. Worst of all, I cannot find a way to turn off vibration in the settings. :(
Edit: I am not surprised there is no settings to turn off the vibration as this is an older game and a port, but damn. My hands are not made for this LOL

So I have duchenne muscular dystrophy and I need a gaming laptop for uni and I need it to have atleast a dedicated graphics card as I love gaming but can't get a ps5 nor a gaming pc due to budget constraints. Please recommend some gaming laptops under 1.5-2kg

I think I'm ready to admit I'm a disabled gamer. I have pretty low fine motor skills, probably dyspraxia, although no one has ever used that term with me. I've accepted that I'm probably never going to be good at fighting games, and I struggle with a lot of character action games. Turn based RPGs and strategy games are my favorite. I have no idea if there's anything I can do to better my skills at these things?

I’m looking into how to make playing rocket league easier to play for someone who can only use their left hand/arm and left foot/leg. Using an Xbox preferably. Are there any controllers/specific setups that someone could recommend so I can pass it on? I’m not too familiar with these things myself but I’m hoping to learn some more here.

A quick break down of my disability. I have left side nerve damage and on medication for the really bad pain in disabled limbs. I am wheelchair bound.

Down to the adaptive equipment.

Microsoft makes adaptive controller and joystick works on Xbox and pc.

Logitech makes a button set that is extremely reasonable price compared to the other options.

We are currently looking at running the adaptive controller plus two joystick. The second joystick will be on a gooseneck mount for my chin to do the work. With buttons added for those i have issues with. Left hand normaly has directional arrow keys, bumper and trigger those will be turned into buttons.

I am still waiting for joysticks from Microsoft and thumb pad extension caps.

In the meantime I have had some success getting world of warships to function using standard controller and setting the adaptive controller to redirect all buttons to it.

I am currently at the point of trying various games to see if I can get them to work with a partial setup.

I purchased the ultimate game pass so download and trying out games is reasonable.

Any ideas on what I should try out?

So I have pretty small hands (roughly 5.5in/14cm from wrist to finger tip) and I have poor circulation so my hands tend to get cold, stiff, and sore using a mouse. Often to the point of locking in place. I also fractured a wrist twice that never really got back to full capacity so controllers cause different problems but also pain after use. So I was wondering if anyone has tried this? I've had issues with ergonomic stuff not suiting me due to being optimised for people with different proportions. (Adult chairs causing back pain, child/teen sized ones not being durable enough) As there' a 50/50 chance it won't suit I don't want to fork out too much but if anyone has any oter recommodations in €30-€50 price range i'd appreciate it.

So I've been dealing with chronic pain in both of my wrists for the past four years now, which has made gaming with a controller or a keyboard and mouse practically impossible. I can get through about five minutes before the pain flares up. I've tried a lot of other adaptive devices including joysticks, the Xbox adaptive controller, and the quad stick but after a little while it always ends up the same. I'm not really sure what kind of condition I have at the moment. Still trying to figure that out. But after a little while of gaming in the new way, I develop some issues with chronic pain in an area that prevents me from using things like the quad stick or the adaptive controller anymore. At the moment, I have chronic pain in both of my wrists, my upper back, my knees, and my upper neck. I love competitive games and RPG's which seem to be the hardest to play with voice control software, facial expressions, or head movements. Anyone else have any ideas for things I could try?

I've been pretty isolated in my injury and subsequent inability to do things I usually do. My capacity for loud, populated spaces is almost none.

I've been wanting to start streaming for a few months now, and I want to see if anyone would like to join. Right now, I mostly play House Flipper but I'm stepping into more involved games like KCD2 and Skyrim.

My therapist thinks I need a community and I agree with him. I'm seeing if anyone would like to join me! I also want to know if anyone has their own streaming that I could participate in.

I have the following problem: For several months now, I’ve been experiencing pain in my hands and fingers, to the point where I can no longer comfortably use a keyboard or press buttons for extended periods of time.

To keep enjoying at least some games, such as Civilization or point-and-click adventures, I started looking into foot keyboards and foot pedals. I already bought one model, but I’ve noticed that the pedals are quite large and require a relatively high actuation force. After about an hour of use, my foot starts cramping because of the effort required.

I can still move a mouse, but I need some kind of foot-operated input device to replace keyboard buttons. I’ve also looked into the Xbox Adaptive Controller and would be willing to buy one, but I’m struggling to find suitable accessories that would work well for my situation.

I do have access to a 3D printer, so creating custom adaptations might be an option if necessary. Before going down that route, though, I wanted to ask whether anyone here has experience with foot keyboards, low-profile foot switches, or very light-touch foot pedals that don’t cause foot fatigue or cramping so quickly.

Are there any specific products you would recommend? Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, we’re a small indie studio working on our first title: Ec(h)osystem (pronounced ‘echo-system’). Our goal is to create an accessible exploration experience for those who are visually impaired. The core of the game is navigation via sound, specifically echolocation in an underground fantastical cave system. 

To get the tutorial where it should be, we’re currently testing and we need the expertise of visually impaired players. You are the only ones who can tell us what works for you and what doesn’t and, most importantly, how it feels.

• Testing is scheduled for September 
• It’ll take place online with screenshare (platform is pretty much up to you, but we prefer Discord)
• Will take about 30 to 60 mins
• Build runs on Windows
• You can play with controller or keyboard
• You’ll need headphones
• The call won’t be recorded

We appreciate your help and time, and as a little token of thanks, we’ll offer a small reward and credit you as a playtester in the Demo.

Hi, I have a question: if I buy the Brook Wingman XB3, would it recognize my PS5 Access Controller? I have paraplegia and prefer the Sony controller over the Xbox one; I’d like to connect it to play *Gears: E-Day* on Xbox using an Xbox controller alongside the PS5 Access Controller...pllss🤧🤧

I have dwarfism due to OI type 3 (Brittle Bones Disease) and my hands are too small for a regular sized xbox controller. I found one controller my size but it is wired and my dog keeps stepping on the cord and almost hurt my arm. Do you know of any small wireless xbox controller?
