General Discussion Translate? Really?

Post image
Upvotes

Got this today midway through section 7 in Spanish from English. I thought some of the mistakes were bad enough, but this is kind of amazing to me. Heck, even Lilly looks irritated that she even had to ask. I get it if it was a listening exercise, and I had to choose what I heard. But, translate? Can that even be done?

General Discussion Regarding video calls

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve seen heaps of people on here saying that the video calls are just a part of regular super now.

I got added to a family plan, I don’t even have the calls popping up on my feed to try and offer/push me towards Max.

I asked Duos help team and got this AI response.

So, contradictory to the common belief around here that it’s now integrated in to super. The video calls ARE meant to be for Max users only. Not Super.

Thought this reply was worth posting as I did a subreddit search yesterday and found nothing about it that wasn’t speculation.

Cheers all! I hope this comes in useful to someone.

Bug? This is weird

I don't understand this, for some reason when I click to see other people's courses, it shows me my own score in their list (for the languages that we both study).

I could see people's XP for each course before

General Discussion I see no point on using Duolingo nowadays.

I've been an active user since 2016 when I was 11 years old and my dad's friend showed me the app. Just in a few days Duolingo gave me a solid knowledge of basic English that served me for years.

I jumped back and forth from the app until 2022 when I would my current streak which is now 1416. But the app has been downhill since then. When they changed the app from the tree to the learning path things it was still good for a while but since then it has become increasingly worse.

Hearts became energy, the app is filled with ads, many languages have translation errors, workers replaced by AI and the quality of teaching is non-existent now.

I tried to learn basic Dutch a few months ago and made it to section three where I kept learning the same repeated words and nothing more.

I recently realized I'm using it just to keep my streak and the monthly badges and I haven't actually learned anything in a long time. Today they increased my points from 50 to 55 which is still reasonable, but I already felt like 50 was too much.

I'm seriously considering quitting or losing this month's badge on purpose. I feel like I'm using a ghost app with no humans left.

I don't want to complain just for the sake of it but it is extremely sad to me to see an app that was a huge part of my life and extremely important to my development as a teenager to become this. Literally, I'm where I am right now in my life because of Duolingo that got me into languages in the first place.

General Discussion Friends Streak error

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I have a problem with the Friends Streak.

It's supposed to show a notification in News when you hit a milestone with a friend.

For example: I have one streak of 450 days and another of 3 days.

But today neither of them appeared.

This has happened many times before. Other important dates also didn't show up in News.

The streak counter is still working fine, the issue is only that the notification doesn't appear in the News/Feed section.

Has anyone had this error?

Do you know how it could be fixed?

Thanks!

General Discussion Mom lost all her progress, factory reset her phone

Bug? It happened AGAIN 🔋❗️

So… I did another DuoRadio lesson (the ones with the 🎧 icon), and when I finished, my Energy suddenly jumped to 27🔋💀

I immediately tapped the Energy icon to check, but unfortunately, it had already gone back down to the usual maximum of 25 😭

The last time this happened, I reached 26 Energy. Now I somehow reached 27 👀🔋

At this rate, maybe the person who commented on my last post about wanting 30 Energy might actually get their wish someday 😂

Bug? Duo glitched and gave me empty chests...?

This has already happened a couple times recently. I finish a lesson, I know I'm about to get some chests as a reward. But the app has been very laggy for me lately and every once in a while it just decides to crash during the post-lesson screens.

So I'm like okay, never mind, and I open the app again just to check if it saved my progress. The progress is there, thankfully. And then I check the quests tab too and see that all chests are open. Huh? It never gave me the option to open them... (For more context, the pictures above are from today and I only got to open the first chest, which gave me some gems.)

When I checked the shop afterwards, the triple xp boost that's supposed to unlock the next day was not there, even though I've supposedly earned it and the third chest is shown as opened. Oh well... I hope it's just a minor glitch but it's honestly kinda annoying because I usually do lessons specifically to try to earn that third chest.

General Discussion I lost August medal by just one point after 31 consecutive months

I was unemployed on August, got a job in the last week. Due to that I lost some streaks, but unfortunately in the last day of August I lost my medal by 59/60 points, after clearing all my daily missions and this week’s friends mission. I’m really committed to the learning path and I even pay for Max Family to contribute to Duolingo’s mission. Is there any way I can get this medal? I’m really frustrated to lose it by just a single point after 31 consecutive months of achievement. Please help me! 😢

General Discussion My biggest complaint with Duo is the lack of explanation

What the title says. As much as I enjoy the app's approach to learning Spanish, the lack of background explanations is frustrating. So I've been looking for something to augment Duo to fill in that gap, and I think I found it- and it's free.

Look for an app called Language Transfer. It's just a series of short lessons where a teacher walks a student through Spanish language rules.

Bug? Had August badge yesterday, but is missing today!

Hello,

Annoyingly my daily quests went up from 50 to 60 in the month of August. On the 30th, I had 58 earned, but it suddenly said I had 60 and I had earned the badge.

Now today, I check my badges and the August one is greyed out! On top of that, I'm now required to earn 65 (!) daily quests this month.

I've earned every badge for years so this is super important to me. I contacted customer support. What else can I do?

General Discussion WTF ARE THEY DOING? 70 daily Challenges?

Last month it was 60 challenges and now 70. are they trying to push people away from the app?
People are already not even willing to put effort anymore. Diamond Tournament contenders are in with minimal xp points.

It started with 30, then 40, 50, 60, and now 70!! So frustrating, luckily this is the last month of my annual max subscription. Gonna stop this shit now.

Bug? Does anyone else have a microphone problem with speaking lessons?

Sometimes it just won’t recognize my voice. It happens both in speaking practices and speaking parts of other lessons.
The thing is that I haven’t noticed a pattern. It’s not about my battery or headphones. And the very same thing happens on my iPad too.
I can see the vibration thing catching my voice but it just doesn’t understand me at all and just closing and opening the app doesn’t help it.
I actually wrote Duolingo Help Center and it recommended me to delete and reinstall the app but nothing happened.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Or does Duo tries to punish me for some reason?
I don’t like passing the speaking parts of the path lessons so it’s really bugging me.

Language Question. Duolingo update

Duolingo updated the French course for me about a week ago. It gave me six extra units to “catch up” with new words but after I’ve started the new unit after completing the catch up units it’s still telling me to speak so many words that I’ve not even done before…..

Anything to do about it or no?

General Discussion Anyone Else Finding Their Placement in League Competition Nearly Guarantees a Top-Three Finish?

I've been on Duolingo for years (Streak = 1980 days) with a Super subscription for most of the time, and in the Diamond League for a long time. It used to be in the League competitions, there would always be at least 2-3 competitors that were at 10K XP after three days. In a way, this was fine, because then I just spent the time I wanted and focused on staying in the Diamond League. Then there was the "trick" to wait until nearer the end of the first day before joining to try to avoid the XP-burner-earners. But things seem to have changed. Now, most everyone in the competition I am "assigned" to barely earn 50 XP per day, and finishing in the top three is practically a guarantee. I'm not really complaining. In fact, I like being able to more compete against myself, or a Friend for the top spot. But I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this? And what do you think?

Constructive Criticism Duolingo owl is dying no matter how often I practice

I’m so tired of Duolingo notifying me every second and making it’s u ugly face no matter how often I practice I’m ready to delete it. Can’t find how to pause it.
