General Discussion Okay, this is getting ridiculous

Before, 50 points was still reasonable, 60 were so-so. But 70? Why punish the users for using the app too much asking them for more and more points? I get that it’s not by any means mandatory but still…

Constructive Criticism Duolingo is too childish now

Ive been learning spanish from 2017.
What once was a learning tool became a spam XP machine.
I liked to come and do my lessons, now every lesson ends with 3 useless chests, constant double XP, streaks and unnecessary missions.

I get that it’s used to hook young people in, but I wish I could just cancel it and focus on my lessons without the unnecessary gamifying stuff

XP was once something to be excited about, to work hard on getting, today it’s just spammed and even topping the league doesn’t mean much if I know someone can get double and triple XP for nothing.

P.S units ending with you being tested on words you never practiced in units is so annoying! I’ve had the same 5 words in every unit end, while never seeing them used in a sentence.

Constructive Criticism I’m sorry????? 65 points????

Post image

The only reason I still stick to this app is because I have earned EVERY monthly badge and my streak is 1242. I’m a VEEEERRRYY casual learner, often getting my points through the flash card/words lessons. This makes it feel like a chore. I don’t often do the unit lessons because on the free account it’s hard to learn it properly and pass the lessons. I’ve paid for super intermittently but I don’t even think I’d want to pay if they’re just going to keep moving the goal posts?????

Constructive Criticism Spoiler warning: you don't have to do the Monthly Challenges. Spoiler

So weird how it's "Duolingo is a terrible app and I'm going to stop using it" one day and then it's "I can't do the Monthly Challenge because it's too hard to do every day" the next.

Make up your mind, people.

I know it's hard when you have quests like-

*checks posts*

"Extend your streak" and "Spend 15 minutes learning" and "Do three lessons".

Really?

Doing the three quests every day for 20 days gets you the 60 that people are currently complaining about. Do the Friends Quest each of those weeks and that's 70/75.

Or, and this is the big one...just don't do it if you don't want to.

General Discussion WTF ARE THEY DOING? 70 daily Challenges?

Post image

Last month it was 60 challenges and now 70. are they trying to push people away from the app?
People are already not even willing to put effort anymore. Diamond Tournament contenders are in with minimal xp points.

General Discussion Why has the number of quests increased? It used to be 50 for the longest time, then last month it became 60, and now it’s 65. Even 50 was already so hard—why do they keep increasing it?

Memes Astronomically high!

I can’t believe this! I’m so mad!

(Yes this is fake. But the point is that they will continue to raise the number if they think they can get you on app longer. It won’t help you get any better following the numbers. I lost my badge streak a long time ago. I found out not chasing this stupid badge number was ultimately a good choice.)

Ciao!

I can't finish this German lesson because it seems the last available pair of words is incorrect.

Duo is messing with me on a whole new level lol

I’ve seen a few posts with people saying they need 65-70+ points for the badge, which seems crazy high!

General Discussion Learning Chinese in Duolingo is Bad

I have been doing Duolingo for a year and yeah I knew the progress would be slow which I didn't mind but the problem is that over that one year I saw the course plan changing over and over again along with how certain characters were written.

-> One day I was learning certain things and the next day I saw some of the characters (like how they are written) changed plus some courses were added in a way that I had to do the previous courses again due to some words being added and removed. It was fine for a while but then after few months it happened again, the way certain characters are written changed and some other characters were added to represent the same sentence.

This was beyon irritating since I then had to relearn from a much older course and had to do it all over again.

Idk how it is for other languages but it's really bad for chinese due to changes in the course itself.

General Discussion My biggest complaint with Duo is the lack of explanation

What the title says. As much as I enjoy the app's approach to learning Spanish, the lack of background explanations is frustrating. So I've been looking for something to augment Duo to fill in that gap, and I think I found it- and it's free.

Look for an app called Language Transfer. It's just a series of short lessons where a teacher walks a student through Spanish language rules.

General Discussion Anyone Else Finding Their Placement in League Competition Nearly Guarantees a Top-Three Finish?

I've been on Duolingo for years (Streak = 1980 days) with a Super subscription for most of the time, and in the Diamond League for a long time. It used to be in the League competitions, there would always be at least 2-3 competitors that were at 10K XP after three days. In a way, this was fine, because then I just spent the time I wanted and focused on staying in the Diamond League. Then there was the "trick" to wait until nearer the end of the first day before joining to try to avoid the XP-burner-earners. But things seem to have changed. Now, most everyone in the competition I am "assigned" to barely earn 50 XP per day, and finishing in the top three is practically a guarantee. I'm not really complaining. In fact, I like being able to more compete against myself, or a Friend for the top spot. But I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this? And what do you think?

Look at this new Duolingo feature Duolingo Stories no longer showing their titles?

I noticed that Duolingo Stories are now just labeled “Story” instead of showing the title like they used to.

Is this a new change? What do you think about it?
