Self Promotion I couldn't find a headset e-reader that treated EPUBs like real books, so I made one. Text is finally sharp enough to read for hours. (Dev)

Solo dev here. I read a lot and I own a Quest, and every reading app I tried was either a floating PDF viewer or half-broken. So I built the one I wanted and shipped it this month. It's called HoverTome.

The pitch for this sub specifically:

  • EPUB is the first-class format — real reflow, 11 typefaces, six paper colors including a proper dark page, your own size/spacing/margins
  • MOBI and PDF too; MOBI and CBR auto-convert on import
  • Sideload from the headset's Downloads folder or over a cable — no account, no cloud, no subscription, fully offline
  • Built-in offline dictionary: point at a word, pull the trigger
  • Read lying flat on your back with the page hovering above you, or with the lights off in a cabin while it snows outside (17 environments, or passthrough if you want your actual room)
  • 96 public-domain classics pre-loaded

Honest limits: it's Quest only for now and comfort is the real question with a headset -- it varies person to person. I read in ~1-hour sessions and it's good, especially on a train or plane. It will never replace my e-ink paperwhite, but it's nice when I need a hands-free way to just get away...

$9.99 once. Store link in comments. Happy to answer anything, especially about formats and what you'd want from a reader like this.

Self Promotion I couldn't find a nice way to share what I was reading so I made an attractive way to showcase or review your digital books!

Hope this is allowed, no ads or tracking on my site, totally free.

One thing I found strange was that I couldn't share the cover of the book I was reading whether through Apple Books or Play Books, or listening to through Audible.

Using the in-app share options didn't really offer a pleasing way of showcasing the book! Even GoodReads doesn't. I would resort to taking a screenshot, but this left something to be desired.

I had a bit of free time so decided to make a site that allows you to share a book review or showcase what you're currently reading in an aesthetically pleasing way!

Best choice for reading ebooks from Amazon

This is probably just me being OCD but I hate that I cannot rename books I buy to read on my iPad. In addition to books from Amazon, I also read books from BookSprout, BookSiren etc and if the files are no directly from the Amazon store, they are often gibberish titles that are difficult to figure out their names and they cannot be opened to see what the title is outside of my kindle app. Any thoughts?

Question As I was editing The Last Philosopher I realised I can add images to my ebook 😁 I've added some examples from my world. The question is, should I put them in the story? 🤔 And if yes how? Let me know what you think.
