Announcement. Subreddit Protest Poll (Reddit is killing third-party applications (and itself))

Recommended listening: Radioactive by Imagine Dragons

I meant to make this earlier in the week and then this morning (with a “Dawn of the Final Day'' joke) but that didn’t end up happening as I’ve been busy and my surgery headaches backslid a bit (They’ve been better though!) Context for what’s going on is in my previous post for those who missed it or are new to this discussion on r/EntitledParents: "Happy Birthday to Me, I guess (The State of the Sub)"

So, Reddit’s actually going through with it. Third-party apps are getting spotty and sometime today or tomorrow I’m sure they’ll be completely cut off. If you’re not disappointed by this, you’re missing the point. Reddit claims that only 3% of users use third-party apps but what that statistic glosses over is that only about 10% of users comment on posts made by an even smaller 1% of the user base. Moderators are an even tinier fraction. In the coming months, expect to see a general decline in the quality of the site as long-time posters are driven away and the scabs that the admins use to replace the protesting “landed gentry” (a.k.a. What Spez calls mods who know what they’re doing) moderate poorly or are simply spread too thin.

Anyway, on the heart of the matter: the admins have made it clear that things will be changing, whether we like it or not. Here’s your chance to influence how: https://forms.gle/LAXPvcncoNofBPUR9

Edit: Leave entries blank for a 'no' entry, spam will be filtered out.

S My dad is trying to break MY lease that I pay for

I (24) just moved to a new city for grad school and so I got an apartment. I think the neighborhood is safe and have never felt unsafe. My roommate has lived here months prior to me moving in. There is obviously going to be crime in a city though and I am aware of that. My dad has been googling crime statistics for my area and is convinced it’s unsafe when he has never been here. He keeps sending advice about where to park or drive. He called my leasing office without my knowledge about me breaking my lease. I feel that is out of line. What do I do next? I am not breaking my lease because that would 1. Screw over my roommate and 2. I can’t find anything in my budget this late into my school year. This situation is adding unwanted stress and any advice is appreciated.

S "I did thank the kid."

This happened a few years back. I (28M at the time) was going to a local shopping mall. I was going to meet with a few of my co-workers at the Dave & Buster's there.

When I entered the mall, there were two children holding the entrance doors. As I passed them, I said "thank you" and proceeded into the mall.

Then, a couple minutes later, a man approached me and started yelling. He was angry that apparently I didn't thank his son for holding the door for me. I calmly responded "I did thank the kid." But he didn't listen and kept going on and on about it, screaming and swearing at me, in the middle of the crowded mall.

I was just so dumbfounded by this that I didn't know what to do. I did thank the kid, after all. Plus, I've always been a bit socially awkward. So every time he paused, I just repeated "I did thank the kid," remaining calm. But he was just back to his loud, swear-filled rant.

Eventually, he finished with "Next time, thank the kid." I responded again with "I did thank the kid." for the fifth or sixth time, as he left.

Not sure what his problem was. It's possible he didn't hear me when I said "thank you" - my voice can be quiet. Or he thought I only thanked one kid. Or he's just plain nuts. But even if I didn't thank the kid, I feel this was a big overreaction.

When I met with my co-workers, we had a laugh about how crazy this father was, with one of them mentioning that knowing me, I definitely thanked the kid.

Never saw this father, or his son, again, but remember the incident from time to time.

L Parents are about to ruin a wedding

The context: I (25F) have a great relationship with many members of my extended family. My parents (the entitled parents in this scenario) do not have a good relationship with any of them. I have a very rocky relationship with my parents due to their consistently dodging accountability, ignoring boundaries, and expecting everyone else to manage their emotions for them. My cousin, C, is getting married this weekend.

The timeline:

March: I get an invitation for C’s wedding and RSVP that I’m attending. I find out my parents have also been invited, and also plan to attend.

July: I find out from a relative, B, that my parents are in conflict with another relative, A, who is C’s parent. From A’s perspective, my parents acted in a way that was hurtful toward A at a family reunion last year. A has asked for an apology and assurance that my parents will not act similarly toward them at the wedding. My parents deny the accusations and refuse to apologize. As a result, A has been heavily considering banning my parents from attending C’s wedding. My parents and A are trying to find a compromise. B and I agree to stay out of this, it’s not our conflict.

August: I hear my parents’ side of the story. They said that A’s grievance is not valid because A didn’t “give enough details”, therefore my parents don’t need to apologize, and they will be going to the wedding regardless of the boundaries A may or may not set. My mom vents to me about her frustrations with A, calling A cruel and selfish. I suggest giving A space during the wedding but otherwise do not engage, and she changes the subject.

Also August: since C's wedding is out of town my parents offer to find lodging for me with them, but aren’t clear about their plans, and at the same time, A offers an open, free room in their house for me to stay. I accept A’s offer (in hindsight, I can see how this might have come across as me taking a side, but in the moment I needed to stay somewhere I had clear details for, and I have a stronger relationship with A than with my parents). I tell my parents my lodging plans and they’re not happy but stay civil. They do lie to me about texts I'd sent to them and drop a line about me “talking about us to the family” that doesn’t make sense. I shrug it off because I’m trying to keep the focus of the conversation on travel logistics, and otherwise it's pretty benign.

Last night: my 22M brother (also going to the wedding, much closer with our parents than I am) calls and begs me to please stop talking to our family about our parents. Our parents are getting enough crap from the family and are all broken up about it so please, for their sake, stop adding to the drama. I’m completely baffled and ask him what he’s talking about??? He shares the synopsis of my parents’ side of the conflict with A, adds the detail that now A has banned them from being on A’s property, and urges me again to please not add to the drama. I assure him that I haven’t???, and I haven’t even mentioned our parents to family aside from one conversation to B about us mutually agreeing to STAY OUT OF THIS CONFLICT. My plan is to celebrate C’s wedding and expect that the Adults in this family will behave themselves like Adults. My brother sounds relieved, agrees his plans are the same as mine, and ends the conversation there.

My take: I honestly don’t trust my parents to handle any of this like adults. I’m getting the sense I’m being weaponized in this conflict, and I’m deeply uncomfortable with that possibility. I’m icked out by my brother defending our parents to me. And I’m so exhausted by all this drama surrounding an event that isn’t even about any of us. I’m supposed to hang out with my parents and brother after the wedding (it’s an early service and reception so we were going to get dinner together), but I’m not even sure I want to anymore.

What do I even do from here? Is my read on the situation accurate or am I off-base here? And what’s the appropriate way to handle this? The wedding is this weekend, so I have 3 days to put together a plan. My current ideas are:

  • Plan different strategies/lines I can use to discreetly step in and redirect if my family gets into the drama during the wedding/reception
  • Talk with A about how we want to respond if my parents violate the boundary and come to A’s home
  • Schedule time for rest and pack hobbies with me to keep me regulated this weekend
  • Something else???

Tl;dr my parents are refusing to resolve an interpersonal conflict and it may be affecting another family member's wedding, in addition to my reputation

M You made my child trans... Fix it?

So this was a little while ago but I was talking at a group for trans youth as the kinda guest speaker? For reference I'm 22NB but this was a few years ago so I was maybe 19-20? Essentially pretty close to the age of the kids but I do a fair bit of advocacy work in my area. This may not be perfect but I'm doing it from memory.

We're like halfway in when a parent asks to come watch, and I'm like whatever? You know maybe he was curious about the talk or had questions for me? This guy is like in his fifties so significantly older than me and I'm a very short, femme presenting, disabled human who was using a wheelchair at the time so not exactly intimidating. But because of that combination I guess he thought I was going to be a pushover or an easy target for his bullshit, but I've been dealing with people like this since I was twelve and genuinely don't care what they say to me anymore. And as a result of that I also know all their arguments from the start and how to rebut them. So here's how the conversation went, mind you this was in the middle of my talk and infront of his trans child.

ED: "So like why should I use pronouns for people, it's their job not to get offended?"

Me, the sleepiest of eeps: "For starters respec-"

ED: "Well what if I don't respect them."

Me: "It's less the kind of respect you give people you like and more the decency that you give everyone."

ED: "Well you all are coming up with all these pronouns and genders and I can't keep track!" (At this point he's raising his voice a bit and had fully stood up and moved so he was standing over me, the coordinator was looking at me to check if I needed help)

Me: "Well sir if you're willing to take the time to learn people's names, pronouns shouldn't be too diff-"

ED: (now jabbing his finger in my face) It's (T Slur)s like you who did this to my daughter, now look at her wanting to be a boy! You ruined her, you did this now make her better right this instant!"

Me: (gently moving his finger out of my face) Sir you can call me whatever you want but not infront of the children, please leave. Your son is welcome to stay.

Eventually we did get him to leave and his kid came up to me all ashamed and handed me a drawing he did with an apology about his dad. I'm pretty used to this stuff so the responses are basically scripted at this point but it still breaks my heart every time. If they're willing to say that in public, in a group for the people he's insulting imagine what they say in private.

I was glad I'd basically made a flow chart to deal with people like this but fuckin hell that parent was entitled and stupid.

Wherever you are out there kid, I hope you got away from that twatwaffle of a father and are living your life full of trans joy.

Edit: Y'all I've got so many more of these stories from what I do and my weird life, I'm gonna be making a fair few posts probably.

Edit 2: To everyone in the comments who's been talking about different ways they help the community I wanted to give you an extra thank you and Internet hugs if you'd like them. Even if the way you support is as simple as correctly gendering someone this shit adds up and you should be proud to be playing a role in that. I've been smiling so hard reading all the comments about helping people that my face hurts, I need to log off before my face gets stuck this way and I lose my trademark RBF glare.

And side note my nerdy ass is loving looking at the analytics for the post, it's really interesting.

S Moving drama

Ever since my son was born my mother can be pretty jealous over how much time she gets to spend with him compared to my mother-in-law. We got into a fight over this a year ago but have moved past it and are trying to just keep the peace. Currently my son gets to spend every Monday and the occasional Wednesday with my mom and we go over every other Sunday for dinner as a family. On the other hand every other week we go over to my in-laws house for multiple days.

Recently my husband and I have decided to move in with my in-laws (who live two hours away) as it is more convenient for his job, we’re trying to save money for a house, and I am currently 5 months pregnant and could use the extra help.

We are planning on telling my parents about this soon and I am so nervous about specifically my mother’s reaction. I know she will not be pleased. She is excited about the new baby coming and will probably feel as though I am taking that away from her. I want to go about it the best way I can and not have it blow our relationship up like the fight we had a year ago. I just feel like she will take it personal and I don’t know how to avoid that.

I also fear the logistics moving forward. I would like my son to be able to see my mother possibly every other Monday rather than every Monday as it is a long drive and a ferry ride to get him to her. Plus with a newborn on the way i just know that will change things and make it even harder. There’s just a lot to consider. Any advice on how to handle this situation???

S Entitled Parent on a playground

So me and my friends (all around 17-18) were sitting on a climbing frame on a playground, drinking and talking. I don't know if this is a european thing, but it's a quite common activity. An entitled mother suddenly appears on the playground with her ~7yo spawn, and starts asking us to get off the climbing frame so her child could play on it. We told her we were there first, and that her child could play on another structure or wait until we leave. She gets pissed and starts threatening to call the cops on us, even though we were literally calmly talking and not bothering anyone. When she got her phone out we didn't want to bother with this anymore, so we ended up leaving and going elsewhere in the local park.

M My parents think my mindset is "too small" because I want to work a job and open a medical shop instead of wasting years on government exam prep. Need advice.

I’m 21 years old and currently in the 3rd year of my B.Pharm degree from a standard local college. As many of you might know, entry-level jobs after B.Pharm don't pay very well, especially if you aren't from a top-tier college. Knowing this, my long-term plan is to work for a while, save up money, get my pharmacist license after graduation, and eventually open my own medical shop/pharmacy.

Recently, I decided to take the initiative and cleared an interview for a job that pays ₹13,000 per month. My goal was simple: use this income to start saving for my future business and cover my own personal expenses (like clothes, shoes, watch, and accessories) without depending on my parents.

When I came home and told my parents the good news, they completely lost it. They started yelling, telling me I’m not allowed to take the job, and demanding that I only focus on finishing college and then prepare for government exams full-time.

Here’s why their plan makes zero sense to me:

  1. Past Track Record: I tried preparing for NEET before and didn’t clear it. I also tried studying for another exam and couldn't clear that either. I know myself well enough to realize that I cannot sit in a room for 2–4 years studying the exact same syllabus over and over again with absolute seriousness.
  2. The Financial Drain: My parents are willing to spend ₹50k–₹80k per year on coaching fees, another ₹50k–₹60k on my living/study expenses, plus my college fee of ₹80k per year. When I suggested keeping that money safe and using it towards opening a business later, they claimed my thinking is "small" because I'm choosing a shop over a government job.
  3. Their Logic: They told me, "Even if you fail government exam prep after 4 years, we won't feel bad. You can always open a shop or get a job later."

It feels like they would rather watch me waste years and lakhs of rupees chasing a low-probability government job just for social status, rather than let me take control of my life, gain experience, and build a stable business. It almost feels like they want me to stay financially dependent on them so I have to come to them for every small expense instead of earning it myself.

How do I navigate this situation? Has anyone dealt with parents who are obsessed with government exams at the expense of practical career plans? Any advice on how to convince them would be appreciated.

S Mom won’t let me work but

I’m 17F and a senior in highschool and a lot of school activities are coming up. Which automatically correlates to school dues. I have so many dues coming up and want to keep up with my personal matinence I can see it won’t fit within my mom’s finances. As she struggles to pay bills and has no transportation. But she won’t let me get a job and despises when I bring any finances up. She claims Im not ”responsible“ enough. I can’t do anything but stay in the house because I can’t afford anything. What do I do?

M You knit, right?

I don't exactly know where to post this but...this seems fitting?

Let me start by saying my mother (46yo) and I (31yo) aren't exactly on great terms. She's the kind of woman who has seriously thought "Thats not my child". Not in a "I want to disown them" sort of way, in a genuine "My husband cheated on me ((which is a whole other can of worms because, wow, guilty much?, my father did not and never would but anyway)) there for this child isn't mine" kind of way. She's got a pattern of forgetting I exist for months, then in a random drunken stupor, remembering me..call me in the middle of the night, crying. Make promises, then on the day of the promised event...disappearing. Rins, repeat. This has been my whole life into my adulthood.

Now. Lets get into the meat and potatos of this post. My mother messaged me out of absolutely nowhere at 1:20am.
"Hey kid, you make scarfs? i wanna commission you for on. blue orange and yellow. I'll pay $25 for it"
Okay...Whatever. I treat it like a stranger's commission request. The next morning, at a reasonable hour, I ask her basic question. Things like what kind of scarf, dimensions, stitch or pattern. The specific shades of these colors she's thinking. Things I would need to know to make what she wants...and also determin if that price is actually even reasonable. She looks at it. Doesnt say a thing. Till the following night at midnight. What's her response to my questions?
"For me upcoming winter."
Okay..thats..not really helpful but..whatever. I ask my questions again. And again. No response until an ungodly hour.
"You make yarn, right?"
Aand... gone. Disappeared. Like a fart in the wind.
I have not received any further clarifications. At this point I'm wondering if she's just trying to mess with me? Is this entertainment to her or what?
And now, I've looked at her fb profile this morning and guess what? Its gone. Her fb is unavailable to me. I dont know if she blocked me, deactivated, changed her privacy settings...or simply just returned to the mist.

I dunno if this needs said but making a scarf completely from scratch by hand is intensive skilled work. Spinning all the yarn needed, dyeing, then knitting is A LOT.

M I just realized my parents are seriously planning for me to have an arranged marriage in 2 years and I’m freaking out

I’m 21F and I’m honestly really stressed right now and don’t know if I’m overreacting.

My parents are currently visiting relatives, and at first they kept making comments about me getting married in two years. I genuinely thought they were joking, because I’ve heard comments like that before and didn’t take them seriously.
But today I realized they actually seem to be serious.

They’ve been talking to my relatives about finding someone for me and asking them if they know anyone I could potentially marry. They keep saying that I should get married in two years, which would make me 23.

The thing is, I don’t want to get married at 23. I feel way too young and I don’t feel ready to get married at all right now. I want to have more time to figure out my life and actually choose when and who I marry.

I also have a boyfriend who I’ve been with for over a year, and my parents don’t like him. They’ve made it clear that they would rather I marry someone completely different. So it’s not like they’re talking about helping me find someone because I’m single and want an arranged marriage. They’re essentially talking about finding me someone instead of my boyfriend, and I don’t feel like I’m being given much of a choice in the matter.

The thing that really freaked me out happened when I went upstairs to use the bathroom. My parents apparently didn’t realize I was upstairs, and I overheard them talking about moving. My dad was saying he wants to downsize, and apparently the only reason he hasn’t wanted to downsize is because of me. Then he said that I’m going to be “married off” anyway, so they can just downsize.

That made everything feel so much more real to me and it made me realize that they’re not just casually talking about marriage. They’re actually making plans around the assumption that I’ll be married and out of the house in two years.

I’m sitting here feeling really anxious because it feels like my future is being planned without me. I know my parents probably think they’re doing what’s best for me and that this is culturally normal in our family, but I don’t understand how they can decide that I’ll be married at a certain age or start looking for someone without me actually wanting that.

I’m also scared about what happens if I say no. I don’t want to disappoint my parents or cause a huge family conflict, but at the same time, I don’t want to wake up two years from now feeling like I got pressured into a life I didn’t choose.

Am I overreacting? How would you handle this if you were in my position?

S My mom neglected my health when I was younger and didn’t do enough research and now I have to pay for it and do it at 20

After so many years I sort of realized that my mom didn’t want to have kids. She just did the bear minimum. Part of it was not taking me to check ups and if she did she would go to someone cheap that isn’t actually professional and now I’m scared idk if it’s too late. Worst part is that she doesn’t seem sorry and doesn’t realize the gravity of the situation. Every week now I have to see doctors and I hate that I have to do this now. I want to yell at my mom and ask her why she chose to have kids if she can’t bother to do what she needs to do as a parent. It makes me sad

S Is it bad to be angry my dad keeps putting his towel on my pillow

I swear to god, everyday i return home and i see his towel on my pillow, you see, he uses the towel to cover his pillow so that his saliva absorbs in it, but its so disgusting and the fact that he sleeps like under my bed (he sleeps on a floor matress) he acts like nowhere to put his towel except using my bed, and me, i have ocd, i always keep my room clean and the amount of times i have to clean my pillow pisses me off, so today i confronted him and my dad keeps ignoring me and even get fed up somehow, i was confused and even asked him to stop putting his towel on my pillow for once and he got angry, like i never see him be angry, reacted hardly, then my mom joined him and told me to shut the fuck up, and she keeps telling my dad to bring me to school already, and i thought she thinks i dont want to go to school and i keep shouting that she doesnt understand until i realises shes getting annoyed and even threatened to beat me, after school i told my dad if he put his towel on my pillow again, and guess what he ignored me and countless times, he told me he did. I feel like crying after writing this

S Kids too special to walk from bus...

So we live in a super safe complex that's off a busy road. When I say safe I mean many of us walk around the loop for exercise because everyone knows to drive carefully.

I've lived here for 3 years now and this is the first school year I've seen this happening.

The local school bus doesn't drive into the complex but will stop on the busy street to let the kids off at the complex's driveway that is connected to the loop.

The driveway is super narrow and there isn't room for people to be parking on but since school started earlier this month there's been at least 2 moms sitting in their cars waiting for their kids to get off the bus every single day.

And not like 5 minutes before drop off, no try like 30 minutes before.

Like God forbid their precious angels walk from their bus to their building. It's so ridiculous!

When I was a kid, our dirt driveway was longer then any distance these kids would have to walk in the loop. Even the buildings in the back.

Today I pulled up when the bus was dropping off today and it was just lightly raining.

Still there was easily 4 cars parked on the driveway with moms waiting with umbrellas so their precious angels wouldn't get a little wet.

Like seriously? Trust me your kids aren't gonna melt from the rain, I doubt they are that sweet.

S Entitled mom vandalizes school bus to retrieve child as other entitled children exit through windows

Reports of this story are a bit confusing, but I think kids were overly rowdy on a school bus, and one exited the bus through a window for unknown reasons. That prompted the driver to stop the bus and forbid anyone from leaving the bus until law enforcement arrived. I can see the driver's point of view because he's liable for the safety of these children, many of whom were not complying with basic norms of behavior. Link to news video

S Dad is furious at the idea of me getting tested for autism

I (FTM) have suspected I have autism for a couple years. tldr, sensory issues, bad with social cues, special interests, etc. My mom agrees that I probably have autism, but left it up to me whether I wanted to get tested. Now that I’m older and don’t live with my dad anymore (went from 50/50 custody to a few hours a month), I figured I might as well get tested. I brought this up at my doctors appointment and he said to bring it up with my psychiatrist. after this, my dad texted me that he thinks I am “perfectly fine” (his exact words) and that teachers would have caught it sooner. fast forward to yesterday when I met with my psychiatrist. I was hesitant to bring it up because my dad was in the zoom meeting, but I did it anyways. when my psychiatrist asked about my symptoms and I mentioned not being good with people, my dad interrupted saying I used to be very social and energetic (which is in my opinion untrue). as I was talking further he also mentioned how my antidepressants (which he has wanted me off of for years) could be causing my symptoms. another thing my mom, psychiatrist, and i said was that autism is often missed and under diagnosed in girls, which applies because as I mentioned, I am a transgender man. when I brought this up he said “wow, you sure know a lot about this.” in a condescending tone, and I was confused and said I did research online. my mom says he was trying to hint that I was somehow faking it, and my psychiatrist must have figured that out too because she said I was well-informed as a compliment. he doesn’t live with me or have a say in my medical care at all (divorce stuff, my mom has the primary decision) and he‘s STILL making it a pain in the ass to get diagnosed. What do I do to make it stop?

M Mom calls me asshole in front of children

So context, I work at a famous restaurant chain (I'm not gonna say which because I don't want to get in trouble) and this happened back in late December.

So I, 24M, work as a server, and this woman who I'd say was in her mid 50's had just finished her dinner with someone who I assume was her teen daughter. Nothing weird happened until they finished paying the bill. So after I pick up the bill when they are leaving I politely tell them "Happy Holidays, folks." Seems innocent enough.

That's when the mom got up in my face and said "Um, it's merry Christmas, asshole." I was so shocked by this because I didn't expect that at work. I live in a county that's pretty accepting of my atheist beliefs. I could see the daughter was getting annoyed by her too and she was trying to diffuse the tension.

She then asked me to repeat what I said. I said "happy holidays" but kind of questioning what I did wrong. She then told me to get my manager. Me, not believing that I was dealing with this, went to go get my awesome manager. She then laid into him how I was discriminating against her and fellow Christians by saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas". My manager almost got into a shouting match with her because she started then insulting me for no reason. This caused a whole scene, and I already hate conflict so I just left the area and tended to my other tables.

As she was leaving, I could see her take the cash tip she left me out of my check book. When I saw the receipt, it said "Go Fuck yourself you anti-Christian douche."

I went to go show this to my manager, and the manager was so sweet, that I was able to get free food for the next week because of how well they said I handled it.

The daughter actually came personally and apologized for her mother's behavior (she had forgotten her coat which I left at the host desk). I go "you don't have to do that," and she said "yes, I do. this always happens with my mom around Christmas time." She then handed me a 10 and said "it's not the whole tip, but you were so good with us tonight."

Rest be assured, I will still be telling people happy holidays, because not all people celebrate Christmas.

S "They are kids!" vs "I'm pregnant!" - Entitled mom cuts the bathroom line

We are on a family day out in a farm, with activities, shows and massive playgrounds for kids. The day is nice so naturally the place has been busy.

I was queuing for the toilets, and when it was finally my turn, I opened the door to a free stall, two kids suddenly sprinted right in front of me and darted inside. Their mother was trailing right behind them.

Instead of apologising, stopping them, or asking if they could go first, she just quickly dismissed me by saying, "They are kids”. I was stunned but managed to reply “and I’m pregnant”.

She completely ignored me, offered no further reply, and just followed her kids into the stall, shutting the door in my face.

I get that kids sometimes have bathroom emergencies, but basic manners still exist, right? Even just asking politely would have changed the whole interaction.
Has anyone else experienced this kind of entitlement? Does the "they're kids" excuse really trump a pregnant woman waiting patiently in line, and how would you have handled it?

M Told my dad (57m) I (22f) couldn’t really read what he wrote with AI and he threatened me with his anger

I originally posted this in another subreddit, which explains more about why I didn’t want to read the “books” my dad wrote. TLDR: they’re AI-written and are very abstract in a field that I am currently not interested in, but my dad thinks his new methodologies are genius and wants me to master it first.

I have been avoiding a direct phone call with my dad until just now. I moved to a new city and am about to start grad school, which kept me busy for the past few weeks. During this time, he has sent me a shorter intro chapter and two more books by himself and AI.

I actually read the intro chapter which is more of his own personal experience/understanding, and did appreciate that. However, I took a look at the new books (with theoretical ideas suggestion new thought/approaches of problem solving? Derived from this intro) and immediately lost interest, feeling like “I learned enough and this is irrelevant.”

Well, today I decided to be blunt with my dad, and told him that I will not be reading his book and learning about his groundbreaking theories ahead of time. I said I’m not interested and would rather learn about his awesome ideas at the time of the book’s publication (he did say that the book has caught the attention of several other people. Hopefully that means he may be able to publish it).

My dad responded that my rejection did not matter and I should still read his newest book. He found it ridiculous that his own daughter would refuse to read this advance ideology, went on talking about how great and defying status quo it is, and stressed that I have to read it for my graduate studies. I am not going into Philosophy studies or anything purely theoretical.

I asked him again if it is written by AI because, this time, the intro felt very personal and realistic. Guess what, the ideas are all his but the writing is all done by AI. I fear that I can’t even recognize AI writing and told him that I don’t even need to proofread because the AI did such a good job lol.

My dad was like, “well, now that you’re suddenly so rebellious…” and I refuted, “If that’s the case, I wouldn’t even politely and reasonably inform you that I can’t read it. I’ll just not do it.”

“Well, you have to.”

“I don’t see how you can force me. Plus, I am not going to remember anything if I don’t read it with interest, which is just going to be a waste of time.”

Right before he hung up on me, my dad, slightly fed up, said I must finish reading the second book no matter what, and that I’d better “not risk his rage”.

I mean…I’m like an ocean away from him and I paid for his ChatGPT subscription. Hopefully nothing bad happens, but man, my dad turn out to be an egoistic old guy.

P.S. I brought it up to my dad that he should appreciate that I didn’t just AI-summarize the book and lie about reading it. He laughed and was fairly confident he could tell. Idk, sounds like if I read the book, he’d quiz me on what’s in it. Hell nah.

S My dad can’t be happy for me

Just a background check my parents grew up poor. So today I went to a hike and I sent my dad a picture of me there having fun and he sent me voice messages on how I shouldn’t have gone because apparently I’ll grow to become poor.

Then he went on about how ungrateful I am for having for fun.i ended going on and telling him how he makes me feel which he brushed off

I Even brought up that the time I went to uni he didn’t if see me off and he said why would he be happy about paying uni and my expense.

I told him he makes me sad and he doesn’t act the same way towards my brothers only to me which he rubbed of too

I don’t know what to do anymore I wanna run away from him but I need money to study and while I’m an international student I can’t stay in this country forever

M 27M I'm getting tired of my parents constantly trying to control my life

Hello,

So basically, they constantly want me to visit them whenever THEY want, and for that they call me on the phone a random day at a random time, if i don't answer the phone i get multiple calls per day and i get guilt tripped to death with stereotipical:

"We are worried for you, you did not answer the phone" with a tone like i was dying or something.

I already told them they are not entitled to call me at any times let alone me visit them at any time, for example during heatwave i don't want to take a 2 hour train in the heat just to please them, but they don't listen.

Recently i have ignored calls and the same scenario again.

I'm extremely tired of the disrespect and talking to them only lead to gaslighting, like oh i don't like your tone, or pretending to never multi call even when i show screenshot.

I am not a disposable that come and go whenever they want regardless of conditions, i'm extremely tired, they take such a big tool on my mental, i have anxiety anticipating their calls and the pressure they'll put on me. I don't know how to explain but life would be simpler without them, they stress me too much, recently i've been stressed about calling them back and confronting them but yet i have done nothing, and obviously receiving multiple voice note/whatsapp/calls talking about we are worried despite the last time they called being less than a week ago.

The reason i don't want to be around them, is the fact that they're religious zealot and rejected me for not being so religious (i haven't formally said that i don't believe in god to them i was just not praticing their religion) put pressure on me to follow it, then i left the house young to be free, since then they try even more to control me, i never talk about anything in my life to them, i just visit them out of shame but i don't think it will keep on going. I am becoming financially independant, they did not help me with anything even when i didn't have a job, i pay my rent and all stuff alone with no help, i am scared however because they have my adress in their posession.

I am reaching a breaking point and i don't know what to do.

UPDTE: i cALLED them and confronted them and i told them they called me 4 days ago and i answered, so if i don't understand the last 2 days it's not a problem they have to leave me room, i was a bit mad, but they CUT the call short, as predicted, i told them, it's not because i don't answer for 2 days that they have the right to spam my phone, i did not come to tell them they can't put pressure on me because they cut the call short, i called my other parent to explain the same, that i can't be i am not a child and i am not subject to their control they CUT THE call short both of them.

I don't know now to be honest. I did not have time to say everything i wanted, i am more mad than before... i knew they would resort to that. That's not the first time they ignore me.

This is getting out of hand.

While I (19f) was eating breakfast I heard strange noises comming from outside. I also heard the rattle of the fence (it is old) from some kid trying to idk, climb it? The dad was helping but he didn't get far until I came out to see wtf was going on.

The minute I did he said "this one again".

I called the dog Lucky (8m) inside and asked the guy "did you need something?"

He said: "don't make me slap you. Don't make me come over there and slap you!" And he started swearing at me.

I asked him why he was here (his wife was there too with a black dog which is about 1.5x bigger than mine) and he kept swearing at me. I told him to go away politely at first but then I told him to f*** off and went inside when he kept repeating "I'm gonna slap you! Your lucky I'm not on your property!" etc. . After like 2 minutes I went to close the window (german desing, it was half open) and said "your mom should've had an a*******" and closed it.

Well... they didn't leave after I went inside so he heard me and I could see him charging at the window. He began slamming his fist on the glass until his wife dragged him away at which point they finally left. There is no damage to the glass (just the mans ego, lol).

Idk why it's so hard to not be harassed in my own home (ok, not mine, I live with a guardian as I am in college but, still!) Some people piss me off man.

There were others that used to do this- eh, come do the fence and let the kids climb it, but after a while and telling them not to they stopped. It wasn't hard for them to, stubborn old ladys included, so why is it so hard for these idiots?

Sorry, needed to rant. Still blinded by rage and shaking. The comeback was funny tho... I know I shouldn't have said it but c'mon. You can't threaten someone and expect them to take it with grace. But I also think he shouldn't have began trying to break the window. Idk tho...

Also, what did he expect me to do? Unlock the fence gate and take the dog to him? Let them be at the very old, very one-gust-of-wind-away-from-falling fence and let the son climb it? Also, if the son climbed the fence and went over it, how would he expect him to get the son back over? And what if the fence collapsed over the weight and injured someone? What then?

The fence has square holes as part of its desing but they are too small to put your hands in them. (Even mine are too big and I have small hands.) Also the fence is stable for the majority of the time but if it is pulled like that or a heavy weight is on it, I'm sure someone might get hurt. Also, too broke to repair.

Why did they stay? Were they hoping I'd come back for round two? That I'd let the dog back out after a bit because "they left" and that I'd think they left if they stayed silent for long enough? I can see the street from the front door of the house and I'd check the street regardless because this dude is a psyco.

Btw, the reason I didn't see them when I was closing the window is because it has kind of a blind spot. You can see onto the street but to see, for example, the fence, you need to all but press you face against the glass on the opposite side. Otherwise it is not visible.

To clarify, his comment of "this one again" is because I told him once before not to let his kid use the fence as monkeybars and I called Lucky inside. He looked shocked when I was heading inside and I heard him call me a trashy b****. He left after about a minute. This is not the same one as in my previous r/entitledparents post.

Btw part 2, the dog got scared when the man started yelling "I'm gonna slap you!", hence why he went inside and stayed under the table on a pillow we placed for him (nowadays he shares it with the cat, Tommy(3m)). Lucky is ok now but I plan on keeping an eye on him just in case. I'm shaken still, I can't imagine how he must feel. I gave him pets.

S Entitled Stepmom

Long story short....

My dad was an alcohoicl until I was 18 (I'm 41 now),. He cheated on my mom when I was 15 and is still with the woman. She officially became my stepmom 7 years ago, but she has been in my life for 16 years now. My dad and I have had a decent relationship since I was like 22 though

My mom passed away 4 years ago, so my dad is all I have left. They already pushed my brother and my dad's family away. (though my brother deserved it). I've been trying to see them for a year now. I saw them once when they drove by my house, and I was outside. Then I saw them in Feb at my nephew's birthday.

I mentioned to them in a text that I have been trying to get coffee or come over for months now, and they keep making excuses. I said if you don't want me in your life, then let me know because I am tired of trying.

My dad called me the next day and explained they were busy and what not but to stop by for their yard sale that weekend. However my lovely entitled stepmom decided it was her time to shine and ripped into me about how I don't control their lives. That she rarely see her kids (which I told her was sad), and that I am liar and manipulator.

I called my dad and asked if he was seeing these texts which he said no. I explained them, and he just kept saying okay. My aunt said he may be being emotional abused and controlled and to reach out separately to him. So I let him know I'm here, I'm his daughter, and that won't change. His response was just okay.

I'm not sure what to do. Do I really let this go and not have a dad anymore?

TL;DR: My stepmom is trying to push my dad away from me, and I'm not sure if I should let it happen
