Advice Wanted Should I yolo Austria?

Unfortunately I inherited burgundy right right before this so I'm way over force-limit, but my hope is to consolidate troops to prevent losing too much manpower in the initial phase. I already took burgher loans, so only 4% interest loans left. I'm thinking of taking as many as I need, then letting muscovy and austria pay them off.

Do you guys have any tips, I really don't want to mess this run up

Edit: THE FUCKING DUTCH REVOLT HAPPENED. Now I'm at war with the french, english and ottomans

EDIT 2

I WON THE WAR, HELL YES. Best of all, austria integrated hungry so now I got a massive austria

Question Zoroastrian mission questions

Hello

I have some possibly silly questions on the Zoroastrian missions.

  1. Enlightened Rule: Does this mean I need 100 absolutism OR +12 for mana OR all Gov reforms?
  2. Cultured Court: How do i get a Persian ruler? Rebels?
  3. Map pic for anyone interested

Are there any ways I can keep expanding without going over my GC? Or is there a way to increase my GC? I don't have any States, so I can't take those GC-related privileges. And I don't want to use Reform Progress either.

By my simple calculations, I still have around 100 years before I can become a horde. Does anyone who's used to playing as the Emperor of China know if taking the Mandate from Ming would give me any benefits in this regard? Is there any reform or degree that increases my GC?

Advice Wanted Q: Aragon Missions worth it in Aragon -> S.P. -> Italy WC run?

• Upvotes

I'm Aragon in 1509. I just changed primary culture and inherited Burgundy. Other than Milan, Venice, Genoa, and the Pope, I rule Italy with subjects. I'm halfway to ruling Occitan. I rule the Barbary coast from Algiers to Tunis.

I have Bohemia, Castile, Naples, Byz, and Portugal as subjects.

My question is do I change to SP soon, or focus on getting Aragon missions? Namely Occupy Alexandria, Rule Italy, and Golden Century. It sounds like it will take 50+ years to complete the missions unless I let the Otto's grow while I take down the Mamluks.

Currently waiting out a large coalition from taking Bohemia from France.

Question This game fills me with so much rage playing past 1600 how do y'all do it?

Sorry for the rant. I love this game so much but fighting any great power war past the year 1600 is about as fun as repeatedly stubbing your toe. Micromanaging 150k troops is so tedious and the AI is far better built to manage this, so slippery and all they do is find the most remote corner of your empire then run away, then come back when you're not paying attention and stack wipe your siege. Sorry for this rage fueled post I'm currently playing as Russia trying to fight the Ottomans and I am struggling. How do you do it?

Advice Wanted Savable without bankruptcy?

I'm in the middle of my WC attempt (I usually drop all runs around 1550-1600).

I have stacked -22,5% construction cost and on top of my previous manufactories debt, I took even more loans.

In five years I will have an economic spike, but right now I am undergoing 220 monthly interest LMAO.

My biggest mistake was wasting too much time on siberian sh1th0les instead of rushing India and China (it's 1570s and I am just beginning to consolidate them).

Do you think the economy can git gud without bankruptcy or is it needed?

Question Is it no longer possible to move capital to Galapagos -> North America?

I am working on a true one tag but I can't get the capital switch to work. I was following this video and simply put it won't allow me to move my capital. In total I own the Falkland Islands, Bermuda, Galapagos, Piwra, and Piscataway (i.e. Washington DC). Nothing else. I have even tried to destate my entire nation and it still doesn't work.

What do?

edit: apparently the Falklands Islands had 34 development and it blocked the move. I returned the Falklands and was able to move the capital.

Question How to Manage State Maintenance in Economy Reimagined

Economy Reimagined is a very comprehensive mod that changes various aspects of economy in game.

I played in English channel one of the richest regions of the game yet I could barely stay afloat because state maintenance was simply too high.

Can anyone who played with this mod give some advice?

Achievement Philippine Tiger - 1666

Post image
13 Upvotes

R5: As the title states, Philippine Tiger achievement in 1666. Thought I'd take a lot longer considering the lack of claims and the fact that breaking into India isn't always easy because of the alliance networks but all in all had very little problems on that final end. Biggest bottlenecks were early game claims, beating a very big Ayutthaya who had expanded a fair bit south, even taking a big chunk of Malaya while allied to me and Cambodia. Using allies as a tool and then ditching them when they became the next target worked very well, as did using vassals in the early game to keep the expansion speed up (had Tidore, Paggaruyung, Bali (well fed) and a few others along the way.

Opened with exploration and expansion with the aim of keeping the Europeans out. Would have succeeded too if Tidore hadn't gone colonizing Micronesia instead of New Guinea but in the end, Spain and Portugal only nabbed one or two provinces each so they never bothered me. Followed up with Offensive, Quality and Humanist and once colonizing was done I dropped first Exploration for Diplomatic and then Expansion for Administrative. Speaking of admin, it was the only mana I really struggled with early game, probably because of the lack of claims. Having to dev three institutions also didn't help. I'd hoped that getting a colonial nation in Australia would help me get colonialism the easy way but apparently, it doesn't count as New World. Lesson learned!

All in all,

Completed Game Completed game as Sardinia, pretty fun ngl should try more releaseables

Released myself from Aragon and got the support from Castile and France to beat them up. Took the baleric islands in the peace and then used them to cripple Aragon and help me take Sicily in further wars.

From there I mostly played tall until I became more powerful, eventually I took land from Tunis and my expansion just spread from there taking more of north Africa from Portugal who lost their alliance with Spain now and even took a nifty overseas empire. Took the Caribbeans and Louisiana alongside the Jolof and South Africa. Used the imperialism CB to take the kongo. Ended up being quite the world power.

Also spain got a personal union with france so that intresting, the Protestants also won the league war even though I tried to help the Catholics because the commonwealth supported them even though they are catholic themselves.

Overall a very fun campaign, lots of expansion routes with Sardinia, would recommend any of the islands in the western Mediterranean as a campaign

Discussion Vassal "Relative Army Power" v1.37.5

I'm trying to figure out how the hell this modifier is calculated, and what things are most important for keeping vassal "relative army power" in check. I like to play as a tall(ish) core with many big subjects, and this is one of the scaling modifiers that can be a limiting factor in how powerful of subjects you can play with. The wiki was "last verified for version 1.25" and only cites "relative army size", but experiments in the current game version are revealing that many other factors are now at play.

Here are some things I've noticed, using the console and various idea groups:

  • standing army size matters, and so does force limit (quite a bit)
  • maximum manpower matters, but current manpower does not
  • army quality does matter, including morale, discipline, and combat ability
  • army tradition and army professionalism matter -- presumably only indirectly because they give buffs to other stats
    • army tradition gives a huge +25% morale, while army professionalism gives a modest +10% land fire/shock damage
  • assigned generals and +general pips from offensive ideas do not matter

and now the weird shit...

  • combat ability only matters if you have standing units of that type
  • your unit selection matters, presumably based on unit pips
    • for example, the overlord switching from condotta infantry to landsknecht infantry (both mil tech 9 units) can cause a tiny change in relative army power
  • how your units are distributed matters
    • having a single 15/5/0 stack is better than a 15/0/0 stack and a 0/5/0 stack
    • what
    • this seems to be caused by exceeding the cavalry to infantry ratio and therefore inflicting the "insufficient support" penalty on that stack (various combinations of only infantry+artillery do not cause fluctuations)

Standing army seems to be the biggest factor (unsurprisingly), followed by force limit, army quality, and max manpower. The game does seem to be somehow assessing the strength of your boots-on-the-ground stacks, taking quality buffs into account.

In my test case with a 300-dev overlord and 300-dev vassal with near-identical armies, the relative army power was typically between 64-69% ≈ 48-52% LD (LD is exactly 75% of RAP). Weirdly, the LD reduction itself seems to be the more accurate stat in terms of actual relative strength.

If anyone else wants to do some testing and maybe even figure out the formula, or if someone has already done it and I'm unwittingly wasting my time, please let me know! I only tested at tech levels 6 and 10, by applying one modifier at a time, so I'd be very curious to know if things shake out differently at higher tech levels or by stacking modifiers -- e.g. is a gigachad prussia with quality ideas and powerful mil policies, but a a modest force limit taken as seriously as they should be?

I suspect that this same calculation may also be used for other "relative army power" checks, such as when offering an alliance, so it would be a neat thing to figure out and add to the wiki.

tl;dr: standing army > force limit > army quality > max manpower

tl;dr: quantity > offensive > defensive ≈ quality > aristocratic (for reducing vassal "relative army power")

Advice Wanted How to "Expand Your Way" out of debt?

Thumbnail
gallery
61 Upvotes

Hey everyone, so I suppose I am an intermediate player in EU4. One thing that I have always felt that holds me back some games is my fear of loans. I have historically played very cautiously due to that. I began realizing that debt can be really beneficial assuming you are being smart with it. So I became more liberal with taking out loans. I would obtain pack on a certain amount of debt, and then when I achieve conquest, I very quickly restructure all of my loans by instantly paying off the old Burgher loans (assuming I obtain money from my adversary which I always do when necessary), take out new Burgher loans to pay off older, smaller 4% loans. In addition to this:

  1. Regularly decreased autonomy

  2. Sold crown land every time I go above 20%.

  3. focused on coring my conquered Russian lands (to expand revenue base)

  4. Focused my conquest on the upstream of the trading network in Scandinavia. Therefore, that meant conquering the Baltic Sea node as well as the Novgorod node. This is in an effort to transfer all trade to my home node Lubeck.

Over the progression of my game though, the ratio between my monthly income to the monthly interest expense kept getting lower and lower (as in my interest grew faster than my income did). Slowly, I became more and leveraged. This has slowly been crippling my economy, even as I do all of things I have mentioned above. Is this a skill issue? Did I expand too fast? With snowballing your debt it felt as though I needed to constantly grow and expand to exoand the debt away. I guess your income doesnt grow as fast as your loan limit does. My last war in this campaign was Muscovy and Hungary, bringing in my allies Austria and Poland-Lithuania. However, France intervened against me, and I became outnumbered. Along with that came the event for Swedish independence. I ended up losing Sweden as my junior partner. What are my takeaways here? Since I lost my junior partnership with Sweden, I want to continue this campaign, if it is recoverable. I want to learn what I should have done, but I am not sure how to diagnose this. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Please let me know what other images you need to lend some feedback.

Hey guys!

I've tried so many times to like EUV .

As a type of a bit of a more casual player , I find the complexity way wayyy higher than I'd like.

The trading , the production ..

It certainly feels like my day job.

Why did you guys stayed/returned to EUIV ?

I'd like to know more gameplay issues if possible ,not bugs, performance etc.

Tutorial How to discover the americas without exploration ideas (and rise like a phoenix out of game over)

Tired of having to spend 2800 dip on exploration ideas to reach the americas? Want to speedrun getting there without waiting for tech 5? Well, I've got just the exploit for you today. Here's how to discover the americas without exploration ideas.

  1. Start as Chukchi (a Siberian native).

  2. Annex both the Kamchadals and Chavchuveny.

  3. Save the game. You're going to need it.

  4. Open the release vassal screen.

  5. Very quickly double click on the Chavchuveny icon. This is much easier to do during an autosave, but can be done outside of it. Click "Play as the released subject", but don't click send yet. If you are doing it over an autosave, you can load the save you made earlier to try again.

  6. You'll have succeeded if, a glitchy release-and-play-as screen remains (without the top bar) when you close the create vassal screen, as below. This will allow you to do other actions, while keeping this screen open. From now on until step 12, make sure not to save and close eu4, as this glitchy screen will close.

The glitchy release and play as screen.
  1. Open the release and play as screen again, this time clicking Kamchadals (you can do this the regular way, don't need to do the double click business here). Again, click "Play as the released subject", and click send. You'll now be playing Kamchadals, but with the release Chavchuveny (from Chukchi) screen still open.
Released as Kamchadals
  1. Declare war on your overlord Chukchi.

  2. Offer Chukchi peace. In the peace deal, offer to have yourself fully annexed. This will bring up the game over screen, but with the release as Chavchuveny screen still up (I'm testing this in normal mode, in ironman the spectator button won't be there, but the overall trick still works). You may have noticed all of the Terra Incognita is now revealed.

Game over... but at least we can see the whole map
  1. Press the Show timeline button in the top right of the game over screen (below "Your Score").

  2. Right click on Chinook to open the diplomacy screen.

Chinook is now visible!
  1. Press the "c' button on your keyboard. This will accept the release and play as screen we've kept open all this time (hidden behind the diplomacy screen). We're now no longer game over, but playing as Chavchuveny, and with the diplomacy screen of Chinook still open. Be very careful not to close this diplomacy screen, you won't be able to re-open it, as the Terra Incognita has returned, and Chinook is very much in it.
Diplomacy with a nation in Terra Incognita!
  1. Improve relations with Chinook. This will allow you to re-open diplomacy with Chinook at any time, by clicking on your own diplomacy screen, and then clicking on Chinook in there. Do not retract your diplomat here (be especially careful when improve relations caps out and the game asks you if you want to retract the diplomat.
Click this to open the diplomacy screen with Chinook, even though he's in terra incognita.
  1. Get your independence from Chukchi.

  2. Convince Chinook to share a map of North East pacific with you. You can improve relations, gift, subsidize, get a diprep advisor, etcetera.

Let's get those maps.
  1. From here, you can sail to the americas. You can request maps of the land from Chinook, and the other natives. If necessary, you can force tributary on the natives, which will make it very easy to request maps.
A (very narrow) path to the Americas has opened!

I hope this tutorial/exploit showcase was useful or amusing!

Flip Mayan, Nahuatl or Inti, start colonizing, do whatever you want!

Question Ottomans WC Absolutism rise question

Age of Absolutism just started, its 1610. Max abs is 100. Ideas : Admin, Diplo, Humanist, Influence.

I googled it but AI cannot help bc of game versions etc. My country is too stable for instant raise of abs, no rebels at all. Only thing I can do is get RM with random country (lower my legitimacy) and then use 90 mil points for 2 absolutism points when click on strengthen government.

I dont have rebels to harsh treatment or areas to state and lower autonomy bc i have trade companies all over Persia, India, China, etc. no areas to state without trade centers in order to lower autonomy. And many of areas are taken long time ago and even if i state them autonomy is not high.

Can someone please give some ideas?
