I’m 5'1" (155 cm) and I swear half the clothes I like were made for someone with much longer legs 😂 Jeans, dresses, even some tops can fit weirdly on me. I’m curious what other petite girls actually do — do you specifically look for petite/extra-short sizes, or do you just buy what you like and get it altered?

At the end of last winter season, I tried on some Abercrombie jeans that were amazing! They were the high waisted ultra wide legs jeans in a white or cream color. I didn’t buy them because it was almost summer and I live in a very hot area.

I went shopping yesterday to look for similar jeans and everything is low waisted! The only high waisted looser jeans I could find (across multiple stores) were barrel jeans, which I don’t like.

Which leads to my question… are high waisted jeans now out of style? I will cry if so 🥲 my athletic thighs and smaller waist have enjoyed this cycle of high-waisted loose-leg jeans.

I don’t wear hats, not because I don’t like them, but because they’ve always felt like a challenge for me style wise. However, I have been told many times that even a simple ball cap looks great on me and I tend to agree when I see the pictures.

That being said, hats are hard! Do you just have to have a large collection of colors and shapes/sizes to make it work? Or do you just buy a few and plan the outfits around the hat? I want to generally avoid looking like I’m going to the Kentucky derby on a casual day out. The one ball cap I do have is bright red, is that something you would pair with another bold bright color so it doesn’t seem out of place? Or let the hats hold their own?

i love all things fashion, clothes, accessories, etc. i love the feeling of putting an outfit together and suddenly it all just clicks. fashion has always been a huge outlet for me to creatively express myself and just have fun essentially playing dress up. but lately, idk, i’m almost feeling burnt out by it?

i started taking fashion “more seriously” once i got to college, i didn’t try very hard in high school because i didn’t have money or energy lol. so even dressing nice in the most bare minimum way felt like i was doing something right and i was suddenly that girl. over time my style obviously developed more and my horizons broadened a lot. i started consuming a lot more fashion content and learned to break many fashion “rules”. during this time i was having a lot of fun experimenting and seeing what i could come up with. i understand that style constantly evolves and it is never really something you can “complete”, but i do feel as though i’ve successfully found my style and im very happy with it. i wear a lot of similar but different items on a day to day basis.

with all that being said, i’m also starting to feel a bit burnt out with fashion, and it’s almost become dreadful getting dressed every day. i compare myself to anyone and everyone, whether it’s people on social media or someone i see passing by who has a “better” outfit than me. i can never seem to be content w what i wear anymore and always wonder what creative spark other people have that i don’t. i’m just like how did they even think of that?? (a lil jealous that i never thought of it). i used to not be this way, i was more confident in what i wore, but now there’s always this feeling i could do better. i mean ofc i have outfits i love and do feel amazing in, but then i have days where im like wow i really suck at this lol.

i’ve always leaned more maximalist and recently have become intrigued by the idea of trying minimalism, since this fashion thing has become so exhausting lately. i’d at least try to keep the main parts of my outfit interesting (top/bottom), but i wouldn’t go out of my way accessorizing to the max or trying to find the most unique outfit combo.

the problem is i still want to look cute and i don’t want to “give up” on fashion. i know if i stopped trying overall id feel so shitty about myself. but it’s also a problem when it takes me 30+ mins to get dressed some days because im so anal about needing to have the perfect outfit. i wish i could get ready in 10-15 mins while still being able to effortlessly throw on a good fit. i always have to plan my outfits for every event in advance and it is getting super annoying. has anyone else gone through something like this, if so do you have any advice?

what happened with aerie? I used to go on there to find clothing and could see what it looked like on non XS models (not that there is anything wrong with being XS it's just not representative of all women. I want to see clothing on various sizes. It's not about health, because even if only skinny people were healthy which isn't always true, but because everyone has to wear clothes regardless if they are healthy and they should be able to see what the clothing looks like on them!) so why don't they have that anymore they used to? but I just looked and all the clothes are on XS?

I went to go buy some sweaters at Sezane but all of the models have small chests. Again nothing wrong with having small chests of course but only 10-20% of women in western countries have A cup so why can't I see women who have larger chests so I know what I'd look like in it? I am so frustrated with this, I don't want to have to buy things and constantly send them back. I also don't want to support brands that are not inclusive.

I’ll preface this by saying I have always dressed myself by my own standards and what looks good to me. I tend to stick to feminine, classic style, but I occasionally go to adult events and parties, and like to dress a little sexier.

That being said, I am 47, 5’1, and curvy. Tend to carry weight in hips and thighs.

I’ve worn short skirts before, confidently.

However, external voices are getting to my head a little bit. I recently bought a cute secondhand linen skirt set. The skirt is actually a skort, so there’s extra coverage. It falls several inches above the knee, probably mid thigh.

People around me have given opinions ranging from “it’s not flattering on you” to “don’t you dare think you’re too old or too fat to wear that , you look amazing.” In general, Fashion advice dictates this particular item might be fine to lounge around a cottage in, or my backyard, but to wear this out to a restaurant and then a party is not good look.

The thought of posting a pic of myself in it to the internet makes me want to throw up, so I’m really just looking for thoughts from the collective, especially women 40 and up. How short is too short? Normally I’m a fck the rules sort of person, but I don’t enjoying looking foolish either.

Being a baddie is hard. I love heels, I love corsets, I love mini skirts, which means I have to take extra precautions to avoid blisters, suffocation, and flashing my underwear to the public.

So I’ve been on a journey to find the secrets of looking cvnty while actually feeling comfortable. Here are my top tips!

FOOTWEAR

So I saw this one tweet that goes: “I’m in endless pursuit of a shoe that can only be described as orthopedic yet slutty.”

This is the tragedy of shoes — the cvntiness of a shoe is usually inversely proportional to its comfort. Some of the absolute cutest shoes are just terrible for walking and will chew up your feet. And nothing feels less sexy than hobbling on your heels when the goal was to be effortless and cool.

The best solution to this problem is to buy shoes that are comfortable AND hot. This can be really hard because you start to notice that the ven diagrams for “hot” and “comfortable” are almost two seperate circles!

My approach is to search within categories that I know are comfortable, and then to scour those categories for a really beautiful pair. Here are the categories that have worked for me:
• platform sneakers (I love Converse for this, I’ve gone to raves and walked 15k+ steps in my Run Star Motions with no issues)
• flat walking sandals (I have some minimal black leather ones from Ecco that are so sleek and go with everything)
• flat knee high boots (make sure they are good quality and have foot support)
• some platform sandals or smaller heels (ditto)

Shoes like these might not have the impact of a gorgeous pair of high heels. But having them elevates your outfits for things like travel, nights out, or just running errands around town.

Here is another way to think about your shoes. Divide them into categories:
1. Shoes where you can walk 10k+ steps
2. 5-10k steps
3. Under 5k steps shoes
4. Shoes you need to sit in

Then think about how your shoes match your lifestyle. I live in a European city where I’m always on my feet, so the first category needs to be the largest. I have less of each category as the tier list goes on.

For the lower tiers, I ask myself how much slayage the shoes give me relative to how unwalkable they are. If a shoe in the lower tier is less slay than a shoe in a tier above it, I will declutter it. Impractical shoes need to make up for their impracticality by being truly gorgeous.

The holy grail is when you have several shoes that both look fantastic AND let you survive a night of partying. If anyone has more suggestions for shoes pls share them xoxoxo

ONE UNCOMFORTABLE ITEM RULE

Almost every time I get dressed, I always enforce a limit of 1 impractical item. By “impractical” I mean items that restrict your movement in some way or that you have to fuss over. For example:
• heels that need special care for walking
• a strapless corset that sometimes slides down a bit
• a mini skirt where you have to squat down to pick something up instead of bending over

Don’t get me wrong, I love so many of these “less practical” items. They can completely shift your energy and how you move yourself. Walking in heels can give you that runway stride. Corsets give me a boost of feminine energy.

However, having TWO uncomfortable items takes too much brain space. Maybe one of you hotties can pull off a corset with high heels, but that’s when I start micromanaging how I move. Instead of relaxing in my surroundings, I’m preoccupied with avoiding a wardrobe malfunction.

If you find yourself with too much impractical clothing, apply my slayage vs discomfort test. How hot does it make you look vs it’s impracticality? Get rid of anything that doesn’t make you look like a hundred bucks, it’s not worth it.

COMFORTMAXXING

When you’ve picked you’re one “impractical” item, there are still tips and tricks to make it more comfortable. Here is a huge list of everything I can think of:
• undergarments: these can make or break a look. A well-fitted and comfortable bra/bralette is the baseline of everything else. It’s good to have undergarments the color of your skin tone if you are wearing sheer garments. An elegant black bra or minimal bralette is also nice for layering under sheer tops
• shoes: if there is a friction point where a shoe might cause a blister, wear protective bandaids preventatively
• mini skirts: I will often wear my tiny black biker shorts underneath any skirt. Tights are also fantastic. If I must go without, then it will always be a black mini skirt with full coverage black underwear to avoid accidental flashing.
• mini skorts: these are a good alternative to mini skirts because the built in shorts make it less stressful to move around
• Warmth: there are winter thermal tights that are made to look like a much thinner layer than they are. Or you can make this effect yourself by wearing a thin sheer tight over a nude colored thermal tight. This way you can wear skirts into winter without freezing

PICK YOUR BATTLES

With experience, you’ll start figuring out which “beauty is pain” pieces are actually worth it for you, and which ones make you feel self concious.

It’s ok to give up on an item that looks amazing when you’re standing up, but in praxis keeps riding up or gets uncomfortable after you eat a meal. Clothes is supposed to fit YOU, not the other way around.

Here are things I’ve personally found don’t work for me, and that I’ve since decluttered/avoid.
• Bodycon dresses and tight skirts. I have hip dips and get bloated really easily, so I always feel more self concious in these clothes
• Dresses that require a strapless bra. I’m a 30G so pasties are not an option, and my size means that even quality strapless bras feel uncomfortable. Not to mention how sweaty it all starts to feel during heatwaves
• Super high heels. I adore the aesthetic but my Eastern European city has dusty uneven sidewalks, and I literally never drive anywhere. Even for weddings I’ve switched to low heels. It’s funny to see all the girlies at the weddings in high heels switch to sneakers by the end of the night. No way anyone is surviving all the folk dancing in those!
