We have a customer with a KCI master box. Technician that researched it said they need to be replaced with the specific battery from the manufacturer. MILITARY GRADE 12V8AH SLA...... Parts guy came over and said custome cost for 2 is close to 2700.

Either my parts guy screwed up his markup or that is the biggest rip off I have seen since last months super special fire wire that was 8 times the cost of the same wire that wasn't red

I've been in the industry a decade, have a NICET FAS III (SME), NICET I&TFAS II (SME), OSHA 10, and a couple other little certs that dont mean much.

What are you doing to stay intellectually stimulated or keep your resume competitive in our market? I was planning on NFPA CFPS and/or EKU FPSET degree but I don't see people that have taken that path. I know a NICET III is, "good enough" but I want more responsibility and pay lol

Managers, what are you doing to keep people educated and engaged with learning? Are people hungry to keep moving the same way?

I’m new to the Siemens world. I have a defective HMS-D pull station and the boss ordered a replacement XMS-D. Are those interchangeable on a Cerbus panel? Or, do we need to make sure to use the HMS-D?

i managed to restore this old gamewell gong, M-1007-18 does anyone have a parts diagram or know where the red circled spring goes? i got it working however i’m sure this has a purpose i can’t find yet.

Have two different buildings with sk 6820 6 sk relay cards that the same relay is stuck closed. Both are triggering a point on a Monaco reporting radio. Panels are normal and there is no change after resetting or disconnecting the card from the slc. Any ideas on what I’m missing before I pop new cards in? Thanks.

I need advice and feedback from experienced people in this field. I recently got hired on by a company to work in Test and Inspections. I have zero experience in this trade.

I applied to do the Fire Alarm side whether that was service or testing. The past month I have just been bounced around doing both Fire and Sprinkler. I realize they work together but I’m not learning much at all. Is this normal?

I would think doing install or service would be better to learn how the systems work and have the ability to troubleshoot things before jumping into Inspections. I’m pretty stressed, I realize it takes time to learn things but I feel like I’ve been thrown to the wolves and am not getting properly trained.

I’ve also been bounced around with different techs every day. There’s really no consistency, The company pays well but my biggest concern is I want to “learn”. I thought I would of solely been working on just the Fire Alarm side.

The building next to me has a triga fire alarm system. You may not know what triga is. But in short, it’s a rebrand of Honeywell farenhyt. Anyway, I captured a video of the system going off, and I’ve heard the tone used in their voice evacuation is quite unique. I want to find that exact tone. At the start you can hear a “dee doo dee” tone. I checked the manual for it and it lists all the tones. I’m thinking it’s the high low tone. I just need help finding that audio tone because I want to use it in an upcoming project. The panel is a Triga/Farenhyt TR/IFP-2100ECS

Any Idea on whats the process on how to get the password back through Honeywell the panel was commissioned by a contractor and after finishing the project didn’t give the password 2 years ago now the panel have multiple faults and renovations require editing and labeling the devices?

Did a fire inspection with no walk test the next morning the panel sent in random alarms and supervisors. There was 110 devices I’m on my way to site now what can I do to fix this? This has never happened before

I had a test question that I can’t remember verbatim.

Effectively it was asking what was the subnet it static ip when having a fire alarm connected up to a router.

It was like:

This is regarding a school modernization project with voice evacuation. Everything will be in surface mount EMT or Wiremold.

Spec is for Unshielded Twisted Pair Speaker and Unshielded Twisted Pair SLC in the same conduit (thousands of feet of shared conduit). Spoke with Potter tech support, and they said that unshielded twisted pair for the speaker circuits is okay in the same conduit as the SLC and that the voice cards/amps do not even have a terminal for a drain wire. I am a little suspicious and it seems a little concerning to have thousands of feet of Speaker and SLC ran in parallel and hoping no interference occurs. The IPA-4000V engineering specifications clearly state the speaker and V-link circuits can not share the same conduits as the signaling line circuit.

What are your guys' thoughts on this. Have you guys come across issues with speaker and SLC in the same conduit? According the engineering specs, seems like the architect needs to add a separate conduit run for the speakers.

I'm about to take my nicet 1 exam on Monday. Ive been in the industry for about two years but had a setback due to some medical complications blah blah blah so I'm a little behind. Does anyone have any tips or pointers for this test?

I just fninshed wiring up a new powerstrike 6 amp PS connected to a System Sensor P2WLED. PS set to master temp 4 coding and H/S to temp3/Temp4 Low. No sync signal from panel (triggered by control module). When the PS gets triggered the H/S doesn't go off and the PS just flashes that output as overload. If I change output to constant it works but I get Temp 3. What the heck am I doing wrong, I can't seem to find anything on this anywhere. I can't use the FACU NAC to trigger as it is not only in use but the customer specs require that the CO H/S be fired from the power supply.

I know I am missing something stupid here but it is Friday and my brain has mushed.

What are the best fire alarm myths you’ve encountered? My favorite is the purple dye packs being in the pull stations so you can identify who pulled it. I remember hearing that back in middle school 30+ years ago.
