Games where it's the most fun to be an absolute mess of a human being

I'd like to try to be the "worst houseguest" possible on PC.

In BG3, for example, I just rolled a Deurgar rogue who is a sneaky, thieving and absolutely mendacious sneak thief. She's awful and fantastic at the same time!

In KCD2, my Henry was not the most sociable sort - and lied his way across medieval Bohemia. Agent 47 wasn't terribly kind, either!

I'd like to play some more games where I can roleplay a hilariously sneaky, lying scoundrel. I'd like to pinch valuables and lie all the way to the bank. Thanks for the suggestions!

Looking for well-written story game of any genre.

Here is my top ten:

  1. Dark souls 3

  2. Nier:Automata

  3. Persona 3 Reload/Persona 5 royal

  4. Elden ring

  5. Hello Charlotte trilogy

  6. Silent Hill 2

  7. Omori

  8. Metal Gear Solid 2

  9. Silent Hill f

  10. Outer Wilds

And this is my backloggd: https://backloggd.com/u/RogueChief

Open to any suggestions, but I'd prefer older games that could run on a upper mid range laptop or ps5. I really like deep and complex narritives that really have my mind working overtime to understand everything, but it isn't limited to that of course.

Thanks in advance!

Heroes of Might & Magic III + Horn of the Abyss... if you love strategy games, give this 27-year-old classic a chance

With Heroes III and Horn of the Abyss finally getting proper Steam releases, I want to recommend this game to people who may have completely missed it because of its age.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/5061200/Heroes_of_Might_and_Magic_III_Horn_of_the_Abyss/

Heroes of Might & Magic III is from 1999, but I genuinely think it is still one of the best strategy games you can play today.

It has one of those extremely rare gameplay loops where a simple idea creates ridiculous depth:

Explore the map → collect resources → develop your towns → recruit armies → build heroes → learn spells → hunt artifacts → fight increasingly dangerous battles → eventually collide with the other players.

It combines turn-based tactical combat, RPG-style hero development, exploration, economy, army building and grand strategy in a way I've never really found replicated anywhere else.

But the biggest reason I'm recommending it now is Horn of the Abyss.

HotA is a fan-made expansion that has been developed for years with an almost absurd respect for the original game. Rather than turning Heroes III into something completely different, it feels like discovering expansions that New World Computing somehow forgot to release.

You now have three additional factions, five campaigns, new creatures, heroes, artifacts, map objects and mechanics, plus a huge number of balance and QoL improvements.

And the game is still evolving 27 years after release.

That's the part I find extraordinary.

Heroes III isn't simply an old game that people occasionally replay because of nostalgia. It has a living community producing campaigns, enormous hand-crafted adventure maps, random-map templates, tournaments, balance updates and entirely new content.

If you're competitive, things like Jebus Cross, Jebus Outcast and Duel can turn it into an incredibly deep PvP strategy game.

If you're like me and prefer adventure and single-player, you can disappear into giant custom maps for days. Some maps almost feel like their own RPG campaigns, where exploration, puzzles, story, hero development and huge battles gradually build over dozens of hours.

One of my personal favorites is The Devil Is in the Details.

And if you eventually exhaust HotA, there is another rabbit hole called VCMI, an open-source reimplementation of Heroes III designed around extensibility and modding.

That's why I find Heroes III so difficult to replace.

New strategy games obviously have prettier graphics and modern interfaces, but HoMM3 has something most of them cannot manufacture: 27 years of accumulated maps, mods, strategies, competitive formats, community knowledge and refinement built around an already exceptional game.

It's a little like recommending a classic novel instead of whatever book happens to be trending this year. Age isn't really the disadvantage anymore... the decades of refinement are part of the appeal.

And the barrier to entry just became much smaller:

Heroes III is now properly available on Steam with Armageddon's Blade + Shadow of Death, and Horn of the Abyss is a free Steam expansion for owners of the game.

If you enjoy turn-based strategy, tactical combat, exploration, RPG progression or games with ridiculous replayability, give it a chance.

Don't let 1999 scare you away.

There is a reason people are still playing this thing.

Extreme scavenging games where every scrap counts, optionally with extreme measures like eating humans

Genre isnt important tbh. As a long time lover of kenshi, rimworld, space haven and the likes, Ive acquired some taste for this kind of thing.

Lemme scavenge and recycle everything. Use humans as fertilizer. Use broken down cars for scraps. That kind of thing.

Games with base building, not city building or anything big

Searching for base building games usually ends up in finding games in which you build cities or kingdoms, stuff like that, but I'm not looking for that kind of game.

Does anyone know about games in which you can build your own base without the focus being on expanding too much? An example I can think of would be Fallout 4 with the settlements, though that game is not what I'm looking for...

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

Games with ungodly amounts of character and/or weapon customization? Open to games that need modding for it too.

Hello there

One of my favorite parts of ultra-modded Fallout 4 and Skyrim is the ability to enhance the character's customization by tripling the outfit options, adding all sorts of extra accesories and expanding the options for the character's body. In Fallout 4 I also had the option to expand the weapon customization to extreme degrees as well.

I also enjoy the same in Darktide, with mods that let you wear the clothing options of all classes and NPCs on any class, as well as adding weapon customization.

I've also spent tens of hours making custom units in TABS (with mods too).

I'd love to hear about games that let you do stuff like this. I don't mean just character creator but especially outfit customization, and weapon customization is a nice bonus as well.

Thanks for your attention.

Short games that I can play in a few days or weeks

I’ve been quite busy recently with classes and other things plus a bunch of other hobbies I enjoy so I haven’t really gotten much time to play games. However, I’ve been really wanting to play some proper games again (instead of just playing Roblox with my brother) what are some good short games I’d enjoy that doesn’t take up too much time? I should mention that I quite enjoy games with a good/fun story, as I have a genuine love for storytelling. I’m not big into anything grindy (it’s partly why I find it difficult to get into RPGs) and I like games that are fairly fast paced or have a decent amount of action.

I need a very long duration City Builder/Map Painter

As i said in the tile, i want City Builders, 4X games or the like that go on for a long time. Like 200 hours+

I played Anno 1800 and 117 and they have been some of the best games i ever touched. Also put a lot of hours in Rimworld, Civ 6 and most Paradox games.

I either need a new hit for this addiction or to get a life.

Minecraft but not minecraft?

Im looking for a game where i can spend hours building shit, where resources gathering isn’t a ball breaker. Im looking for something kinda pretty?

I’m honestly not sure anymore. I used to play Minecraft a lot about 15 years ago. I simply cbf anymore but i love the idea of it. I always end up cheating and then it feels like nothing has a purpose anymore.

I love rust but i don’t like the nolife aspect to it. I hate getting raided and i always play on 3x servers.

I just want to build cool, useful shit and feel like i earned it somehow without spending days grinding.

Games about running a machine

Upvotes

So, I've been playing a bit of Iron Nest, which is pretty cool. Yesterday i dreamt up a game idea, about being the crew of some machine, and you are in charge of maintenance. I'd like the game to evoke the feeling of getting to know the machine, without always looking at perfect information. An example would be an engine that is supposed to run only at 5000 rpm but you know you can push it to 6000 or even 7000, if it has ran for a while and is warm enough. But it would fail if you tried it right after starting.

I'd like it to be a coop game, where every player has a job, that can't be done by another player simultaneously, simulating the fantasy of something like a starfleet ship, where a player is in charge of the engines. The captain kight know a lot aobut the engines, but he can't keep micromanaging the engine player, because he has other jobs to do too.

The movie Fury also evokes a similar feeling. A well trained crew, everyone knows their job and can do it well. Together they can overcome the obstacles.

Anyone know of games that come close? Or will i have to design this myself?

kairosoft game but pc vresion?

I really like most Kairosoft games. They are primarily designed to be played on mobile, but they are genuinely addictive. They are unique tycoon games where we can manage a lot of thing even with fantasy themes despite having really simple graphics. Are there any other addicting tycoon game franchises similar to what Kairosoft does?

Game that just uses a crap ton of buttons/moves

I love playing MMOs and Fighting Games but I personally feel like playing something more single player oriented ( not a multiplayer that you can ignore like MMOs, but dedicated single player ), cclosest I got was technically kingdom hearts 2, as you had to keep moving around on the Dpad to move through the command menu while controlling everything else about your character

If the game doesn't have controller support from the absurdity that would be interesting too

I'm doing a charity stream in a couple of weeks and need a short horror game to play, any ideas welcome!

I need something that I can start and finish in about 4-5 hours or so.

I've already played Iron Lung and Mouthwashing is out just because the charity is for suicide prevention and I don't want to ruffle any feathers with Mouthwashing's story.

But otherwise happy to hear some ideas!

"Task chain" style adventures/puzzles

The title was the best way I could think of to put my request simply. In a longer way, I like games that take you through a puzzle loop of "find this to give to that person, who will give you that item to give there".

My love for this niche subgenre got reawakened with Endocopia. Other games that scratched this itch for me were Smile For Me, Thank Goodness You're Here, the Kindergarten games, and Mail Time.

I am dying to find more games like this. If this rings any bells for anyone, please let me know and I will be forever in your debt

Pc or switch 2 for 10 yo?

Hi I was wondering if anyone had any insight into our dilemma?!

My son will be turning 10 in November, he’s wanted a pc for a couple years now and we told him for his 10th bday we will get him set up. Now it’s getting closer I asked him if it’s really what he wants or if he’d prefer a switch 2 or ps5 in his room so he can game with his friends when they came over.

As a family we already have a switch and ps5 so he’s familiar with those, however he’s never played a pc but had his heart set on it for so long. He’s now swaying towards a switch 2 set up but he’s not 100% and is worrying if he picks one over the other he will regret it. Of course he can’t have both!

I wondered if anyone has been in similar situation or regretted either way?
Cost is not really a factor, both will be expensive but we would get family to gift different components and source secondhand where possible.

Also he predominantly plays Fortnite but chooses to play it on the switch over the ps5. Otherwise he’s more into Nintendo games than PlayStation…

Thanks in advance!!

Games for an old-school Assassin’s Creed fan?

While I’ve played most of the series and a lot of stealth games in general, I always seem to come back to the Ezio Trilogy. Something about the mix of good movement and engaging story really hooks me. Any recommendations??

Best souls-likes to play with extensive build variety that aren't Fromsoftware?

Upvotes

I'm curious about what you guys thought the best soulslikes are besides the Fromsoftware ones. The more non-linear the better, and a neat bonus if it has major content expansion mods(kinda like DS3 or Elden Ring have with Convergence)

First time playing single player games any recommendations?

Basically i have genuinely only ever played multiplayer games i have tried single player before but just never got in to them because i only really like competitive games but finally wanna try and enjoy some single player games.

I enjoy collecting a lot like would like 100% games and doing or collecting anything you can.

I also would imagine id like survival games or something in that realm maybe but not sure and also historical games like the only single player game ive even enjoyed remotely was assassin creed's origins which i played for about 5 hours maybe because i loved the setting of it.

I have tried Skyrim and Red dead before but never really enjoyed them.
