News Town and country meat market closing

They made a Facebook post this morning announcing that their building has new owners and the rent has gone up too much to afford. I personally have gone here almost 20 years. This family owned business has the best quality meat I've ever found anywhere around here and they were always so friendly and helpful. They've had a hard year and now this is just heartbreaking news to hear that we are losing a staple family business in this city. I've ordered my last 2 meat packages and I'd like to suggest we all give them one last visit and let them know we love and support them and they will be greatly missed.

Question Landlord charging for nail holes

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Is this $1500 worth of damage? Landlord originally wanted to charge me $200 for nail holes, but I argued with him saying no damage was present. He then upped it to $1500 to include repainting the whole house. I think charging me anything is excessive, but here is a brief clip of my move out video, with the main room in question shown. If I'm really in the wrong here, I'll eat the cost I suppose.

Edited to add: I included a clip of the bedroom with the most wall decor in the comments

News Council Files: Who Is Denise Roth?

Thumbnail

Denise Roth is currently Mayor Pro Tem, having received the most votes in the at-large race last fall.

As debates about data centers have intensified, Roth has spent political capital defending the questionable infrastructure, which she calls “inevitable.”

Her ties to firms promoting artificial intelligence and her role on the board of Gateway Research Park led Roth to belatedly recuse herself from future votes on data centers. Gateway Research Park heavily promoted the construction of a data center on the campus of NC A&T.

Roth’s numerous roles and the conflicting records of exactly what organizations she has been involved in, and when, raise questions about transparency and accountability.

Like other council members, Roth has received numerous campaign donations from real estate developers like Norman and Arthur Samet. The City has several contracts with the Samet Corporation. This week alone, Council’s pending approvals for increased payments to the Samets will bring three contracts up to a total of $72.8 million:

💰 Change order #4 to Samet Corporation for the Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex Building Construction, Contract 2023-0060 in the amount of $767,684.08 for a total contract amount of $51,057,261.88

💰 Amendment #5 for Samet Corporation for the Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex - Nocho Park Construction, Contract #2023-006A in the amount of $728,149.00 for a total contract value of $13,046,745.25.

💰 Contract 2025-0150 for the construction for Fire Station 62 located at 4229 Short Farm Road in the amount of $8,730,923 with Samet Corporation.

Pet-related Loose dogs

Upvotes

If you are in the holden/w vandalia area and you are missing 3 dogs. They're off of Saxon ct. One big white dog, two smaller ones probably around 9 months. All pitbull mix. One brindle with its ears cut ( if you did that to that dog you're an Ahole) and the other one is brown-ish. They've been running around for the past 2 hours going from yard to yard. Directly up to the door and everything. Please get your dogs before they run into the road, it is a busy street.

Recommendation vehicle with code issues, where to go and wont get ripped off

Have a ford with a P0430 code from two different kinds of code readers. From previous experiences places want to do their own diagnostic testing at a cost and it runs from a few places $150-$200 just to get the same code I am getting.

I'm single, an older woman and have started to feel that shift of where people try to talk me into things. I dont take the bait as i like to do research, see what i can do if anything(related to any situation i feel this way). Havent lost my marbles yet dammit.

I have been trying more to use the services of mobile mechanics to give the self owned person a shot at earnings vs giving a company money.

If not I completely understand why but I don’t really have family support or a lot of friends out here at the moment . Thanks so much !

Does anyone know how to get past CPS records? I was a victim in the past and I’d like to see my records if at all possible. I’m just not too sure who to call or email.

Politics Breaking: We just sued Amazon over what we believe was a vast, ad-rigging scheme worth $20 billion. - AG Jeff Jackson

In short:

We believe Amazon found a way to charge a few extra pennies to an enormous number of transactions, adding up to over $20 billion in
illegal charges.

This is about how something becomes a "Sponsored product."

Amazon lets businesses bid to be "Sponsored" and it runs digital auctions to collect the bids.

But Amazon told businesses that the highest bid would only pay slightly more than the second-highest bid.

For example: If you bid $1 to have your product “Sponsored” and the next-highest bid is $0.50, you should pay about $0.51.

But we believe that Amazon would run the auction, see those bids, and then secretly raise the second-place price so it could charge the
winner more.

It was a gradual strategy based on concealment.

Internal Amazon documents show they tested how much they could raise those hidden charges without advertisers catching on, then raised them
more when businesses didn’t react, then gave false answers when businesses started asking questions.

Those higher costs on sellers can filter down to you, as consumers, through higher prices, and our initial estimate is that this impacted thousands of small businesses in North Carolina.

This is a bipartisan case, and I appreciate my fellow AGs in both parties joining. More to follow.

- AG Jeff Jackson

Photography Greensboro arboretum photography

I am working on booking a photographer for family photos. The one I'm booking is from outside Greensboro so she isn't as familiar with the locations here so I'm doing a bit of searching. I'd like to do pictures at the arboretum but looking at their photography permit site they have a few different locations you can book. Does anyone know how strict it is with having to stay within the location that you reserve? I assumed you paid a fee and could go anywhere within the arboretum but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Recommendation HVAC recommendations

I had some work done with a company and I was not confident after all was said and done that they know their stuff.

I want someone with an engineering style mind that does HVAC to ensure my system modifications or replacement is going to solve the problem.

Anyone that you guys worked with that you had confidence and was happy with the result?

Do not post plumbing and air company or go green or any of the typical corporate carousel techs.

Meet Up Greensboro DnD Group Seeks Additional Adventurer!

Hello everyone!

Our long-running Dungeons and Dragons group is looking for a new member to join the ranks.

The Short of It

  • We play DnD 5th Ed. and are looking for one player able to consistently join.
  • Sessions are most Saturdays, lasting at least four hours, but we often play much longer.
  • Two medium-sized (friendly) dogs are in the home where we play.
  • The play style has a substantial focus on roleplay and character development, but still incorporates combat.
  • Inclusivity is a requirement to join the group. Discrimination based on race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation gets the boot.
  • The group is 4/20 friendly, and alcohol is also present at sessions (but of course, nobody is required or expected to partake in anything)
  • Inexperience is not a deal-breaker. There is a diverse range of experience and knowledge at the table, and therefore everyone is willing to help a player who fits in well with the group adjust to playing.
  • To make sure everyone meshes with a potential new player, before sitting down at a session, a few of the current players would end up hanging out with those interested over drinks/something similar to get to know you.

If you are interested, read further for more details!

Our group is made up of individuals in their late twenties to thirties, and has a mix of four men and one woman with the group. Our DM puts significant effort into the campaign settings and set designs, and in exchange, the party puts effort into impactful characters and their interactions with the world. Everything with the group is collaborative and thrives on the communication and constructive feedback provided to each other, which happens often.

The group has been playing together for multiple years at this point, but some new members have joined through Reddit, and therefore we've returned hoping to find another great addition to the group.

Homebrew settings and campaign ideas are heavily used in our group, allowing players to mold a character in a unique setting unlike ones you've potentially played over and over in official modules. While we strive to make sure the characters are believable and fun to interact with, player freedom is also very important for these stories, as is the understanding that we're here to have fun at the end of the day.

Please feel free to answer any questions that you have and/or reach out if you are interested or know someone who you believe would be a good fit!

Food Greensboro’s Village Tavern … what happened?

Went there for lunch, today. So sad. The walls need repair/fresh paint. That goes along with the trim - probably original finish on the trim. (What was left). The place needs a remodel for sure. And the service…. Who serves Caesar Salad with wilted lettuce and parmigiana from a can? We ordered the crab dip. Bland. We asked for Old Bay to put on. Waitress said they stopped using OldBay. This was just the tip of the iceberg… Two salads, an order of crab dip and two sweat teas… $55 with tip. That was the last time.

Discussion PSA: If you're mad about Flock cameras in GSO, I hate to tell you about your Ring camera...

Thumbnail
404media.co
134 Upvotes

If you're upset that Flock is being used to create a surveillance state in our fair city, I implore you to learn how Ring cameras are doing the exact same thing in your neighborhoods.

Amazon coordinates directly with local law enforcement on a regular basis to help promote Ring adoption, which then creates a database of security footage police can access without your knowledge or consent.

Consider switching to a company like SimpliSafe (or probably others out there) that actually respects your privacy and requires a valid search warrant, court order, or subpoena to provide footage access.

The more you know 🌈

Recommendation Unpacking Help

My wife and I moved to your lovely city today. At the moment, our apartment is stacked nearly to the ceiling with boxes. While our cats love climbing on the boxes, we hope to get settled quickly.

We are seniors and I have Alzheimer's, so tackling the unpacking is not something we can do alone.

Can anyone recommend someone to help us? Housekeepers would be great because we need that long-term.

Thanks!
