Last night, a locked door showed me who was willing to open theirs

1.0k Upvotes

Last night, around midnight, my bathroom door somehow locked itself. I live alone in a studio, so I had nowhere else to go. I asked my group for help, but everyone was probably asleep.
Then I texted the person I still consider one of my closest friends. I sent him a video, and i called to tell him what had happened. He said we could fix it in the morning.
I didn’t expect him to come anyways . But somewhere inside, I hoped he would say, “Until then, you can use my bathroom.” He lives next building, and once I considered his home a little like my own.
He didn’t say it.
Maybe he was sleepy, distracted, or simply didn’t think of it. I know a forgotten gesture doesn’t make someone heartless. But sometimes what hurts isn’t what a person does it’s realizing that the care which comes naturally to you may no longer come naturally to them.
I finally texted an American girl in my building. As an Indian, I felt hesitant disturbing her so late because I respect her privacy and know she usually sleeps early. Yet her first response was, “Come use my bathroom.” Then she came over, stayed with me, and helped open the locked door.
Afterward, she said, “Maybe the universe wanted me to be awake for you tonight.”
well that was the real lesson. The person I loved couldn’t open his door for me, while someone I was afraid to disturb opened hers without hesitation.
Sometimes love teaches you attachment, but unexpected kindness teaches you where safety truly lives. 🤍

Emotional support! 🫂 🤗New Jersey/ Jersey city

Upvotes

It’s been a tough ride lately. Blamed in personal life, lost job at the same time, faced humiliations. 32M - don’t have my social ecosystem in this city. Made a comeback on professional front. Trying to heal and bounce back personally.

I just wanted to use this post to show willingness to support people suffering emotionally or going through something. please chime in if you need help or if you’re willing to lend an ear.

A word, a piece of advice, a hug, a pat on shoulder would make a difference to the person going through a tough time. Your support matters! Heal and help Heal

Three years ago, I decided to give up alcohol completely and focus on my health and fitness.
Three years later, I honestly don’t miss it. Turns out I’m actually pretty fun without alcohol. LOL.
I took my oath in August three years ago. Don’t remember the exact date, so I’m counting the whole month.
Three years down, hopefully many more to go. Celebrating with pancakes 🥞

My mom watched me win a pitch competition for the company I built because of her

Upvotes

Six years ago my mom couldn't walk without pain and I started trying to build something to help her.

This month I pitched that company at a live competition. I have terrible stage fright and she was sitting in the audience. The host asked who I was there for and I got to say "my mom, and hopefully she's somewhere in the audience" and the whole crowd turned to look and she raised her hand.

Then I gave the speech I'd been terrified of for weeks. And we won.

She helped me carry the boxes in. She helped me set up the booth. She told me my practice run was good while I was falling apart. Then she got to watch it all pay off.

Best night of my life.

My wife spent time and effort making sure I had a special BIRTHDAY QUEST!! to complete

My wife told me a week ago that on my birthday I was to present myself in the front of our house with good walking shoes on. I didn't know anything else about what she was going to do, but when I stepped outside she was there with a BIRTHDAY QUEST!! envelope. Inside was the first clue on a treasure hunt that was part walking in our neighborhood, "unexpectedly" seeing friends, and ending at the board game store I play at regularly.

It was amazing, I honestly almost started crying at the end. When I walked into the coffee shop and bakery I told the first password to <her name> and she yelled out "BIRTHDAY QUEST!!" before giving me the next clue and my first gift. Then to Petco where the BIRTHDAY QUEST!! had me answering questions about our new rescue dog. My wife printed out pictures on thick stock of the new dog looking adorable and with notes like "Bark Bark woof bark - (Thank you for giving me a home!)" on the back after I answered the clues.

A few more stops and when we walked into the gaming store people started yelling "BIRTHDAY QUEST!!!" and cheering. The store owner throughly enjoyed asking me to answer the last three riddles in an appropriately silly voice. It was creative, full of love, and freaking hell it makes me happy-teary just thinking about it. I don't even really care as much about the last big present, the love and effort put into it all meant the world to me.

She even put little stars and glitter decorations on the clues. <3

After an incredibly difficult period, this little creature has reminded me I can still feel joy

Over the last couple of years, I had 3 consecutive ectopic pregnancies and two emergency surgeries, ultimately leading to infertility. After many heart to hearts, we decided not to pursue IVF. A short time later, I developed Lyme disease, leaving me chronically unwell. Then in January this year, my dad, my remaining parent, was diagnosed with acute leukaemia and died just 4 months later. It was relentless, and at times I wasn’t sure how I’d feel joy again.
And then Nini came home 🥹 Our tiny, ridiculous, utterly adorable Australian labradoodle puppy 🐾
She’s brought so much happiness into our home already, and after it all it feels pretty amazing to have something this lovely to smile about ❤️

Got my first poem printed .. Happiest day of my life

English version - "The plea of intensity"

"With so much effort, today I pushed my old memories away, I picked up the dagger and struck my own heart, I say.

For so long, someone had been waiting, holding on to hope, Seeing the depth of her longing, I finally brought that wait to a close.

A whole lifetime cannot be lived leaning on memories alone, So today, for this too, I prepared myself to move on.

There had been a strange emptiness settled deep within my life, But holding your hand, I brought spring back into my life.

I don't know how I ever made the choice to make you mine, Perhaps seeing your simplicity, I persuaded my own heart in time.

Until now, I had never let my love reveal itself, But today, with my head bowed before you, I finally confessed it myself. "❤️

Happiest day of my life as I 18M got my first poem printed today ... I wrote it for my future gf ... As I wish to have one..❤️.... being an introvert kid i couldn't even make conversation with girls of my age since childhood... But I had one sided crush on one of my batchmates this poem is dedicated for her and every girl since childhood whom I have had a crush on .... I hope one day I will overcome this fear of communication with girls and have a healthy relationship or a nice friend as a first female friend ...

My Birthday, My Little Piece of Happiness

My birthday has always been more than just a date,

It is the one day I wait for, the one I celebrate.

A little more laughter, a little more light,

A day when my heart simply feels right.

And even though a whole week has passed away,

The love still finds me in the sweetest ways.

A gift here, a surprise there,

Little gestures telling me, “We care.”

And honestly, the gifts don't matter to me,

It is the emotion behind them that I see.

The thought, the effort, the love someone takes,

Those are the memories my heart forever makes.

My little sister, younger than me by years,

Still tries to wipe away my smallest fears.

And my mother, in her own beautiful way,

Tries to make me happy every single day.

They don't need grand gestures or words so bright,

Their love itself makes everything feel right.

These are the people who make me see

How beautiful love is when it comes genuinely.

But sometimes, even on the happiest day,

Someone brings a little bitterness along the way.

A call meant to wish me suddenly turns

Into old complaints and bridges that burn.

And perhaps you don't realise what it does,

When someone's happiness becomes a place for blame.

My birthday was never the day for keeping score,

Nor was it a day to reopen every old door.

I don't expect everyone to celebrate like me,

Nor do I ask everyone to understand what I feel.

But when I'm finally happy, when my heart is light,

Please don't turn my sunshine into another fight.

Because this birthday taught me something true—

Not everyone who calls brings warmth with them too.

Some people bring flowers, some bring pain,

Some leave a smile, some leave a stain.

And I've learned that love isn't measured by who calls,

Or who remembers, or who complains the most.

It is measured by the people who quietly stay,

Who make your ordinary moments brighter every day.

So yes, my birthday is precious to me.

It is my little celebration of being me.

And I'll protect that happiness, come what may,

Because I deserve to enjoy my favourite day.

You may have your complaints, your stories, your side,

But I won't let them live inside my happiness anymore.

I'll remember the love that made me smile,

And let the bitterness stay outside my door.

Because one thing I've finally come to know

Not every relative feels like family,

and not every family member knows how to love.

Walking made me cry because of my recovery

A year ago I couldn't walk and learned how to use a wheelchair.

Today I went on a walk with my fiancé to our secret wedding location and I'm happy crying thinking about how I'll be WALKING down the aisle.

Wheels or feet, this boy has my heart.

My coworker remembered my favorite flower 🌻

My coworker brought me sunflowers today because I casually mentioned yesterday that they’re my favorite flowers.

I genuinely didn’t expect them to remember, let alone actually bring me some. It was such a small thing, but it honestly made my whole day and made me feel really seen.

Sometimes the little things really do mean the most.

My friend just won this medal in hydrabad merathon

So happy to share this with you guys! My friend just won this medal in Hyderabad. We're both originally from Delhi, but he's living and working down there now, and he sent me this today.

The main reason I’m sharing this is because it brought back some great memories. Back when he lived here, we used to go on these random, spontaneous walks. We'd just head out and easily cover 15 to 20 km, walking and talking for 3 or 4 hours. Now that he's moved, I really miss those days—none of my other friends have the time for those kinds of marathon walks anymore. So proud of him, but definitely missing my walking buddy today

My dad spent months building an 11-diorama LEGO tribute for Supernatural. He was so nervous to show anyone, but seeing it complete brought him so much joy!

My dad is a huge fan of Supernatural and spent the last few months designing this entire LEGO project covering all 15 seasons of the show.
He created 11 detailed dioramas of iconic locations (including the '67 Impala, the Men of Letters Bunker, Bobby's Salvage Yard, Harvelle's Roadhouse, and Hell), along with custom minifigures for Sam, Dean, Castiel, Bobby, and Crowley.
He was really nervous about sharing his creation with the world, but seeing it all finally complete brought him so much joy and pride. I just wanted to share a bit of his happiness with you all today! What do you think? 🧱🚗

Life has truly been amazing, 2026 IS the year

I genuinely don’t even know how to start this, I just wanted to share how much of an amazing year it has been so far! 2025 was the worst! Declining attendance at school, my first ever relationship ending, declining mental health issues, health issues in general and so much more. Then 2026 rolled around and BOOM! I started therapy! My grades increased, I started to make new friends, started to explore my style, and so much make. After graduating high school, I’ve dropped quite a few people who weren’t the best for me to hang around and kept the ones closest to me. I started to work at an elderly home and I absolutely LOVE my job! I’m now talking to someone new after almost a year from my first heartbreak and it’s going AMAZING! He’s absolutely amazing and we are both taking it slow and making plans for future dates! (We both work so it’s hard to find a good time for a date, but we always spoil each other when we do end up settling on a day). I’m going to start college soon as well! It’s genuinely just been an amazing journey. I just wanted to share what’s been on my mind! I’m so grateful for everything in my life, the good and the bad!

Lately I am struggling a bit with my mental health and today my dad surprised me with an Edamame plushie and a note saying ,,We are proud of you - mom & dad“
I am so thankful for my parents, they have been there for me in every situation and always support me.
