My birthday has always been more than just a date,
It is the one day I wait for, the one I celebrate.
A little more laughter, a little more light,
A day when my heart simply feels right.
And even though a whole week has passed away,
The love still finds me in the sweetest ways.
A gift here, a surprise there,
Little gestures telling me, āWe care.ā
And honestly, the gifts don't matter to me,
It is the emotion behind them that I see.
The thought, the effort, the love someone takes,
Those are the memories my heart forever makes.
My little sister, younger than me by years,
Still tries to wipe away my smallest fears.
And my mother, in her own beautiful way,
Tries to make me happy every single day.
They don't need grand gestures or words so bright,
Their love itself makes everything feel right.
These are the people who make me see
How beautiful love is when it comes genuinely.
But sometimes, even on the happiest day,
Someone brings a little bitterness along the way.
A call meant to wish me suddenly turns
Into old complaints and bridges that burn.
And perhaps you don't realise what it does,
When someone's happiness becomes a place for blame.
My birthday was never the day for keeping score,
Nor was it a day to reopen every old door.
I don't expect everyone to celebrate like me,
Nor do I ask everyone to understand what I feel.
But when I'm finally happy, when my heart is light,
Please don't turn my sunshine into another fight.
Because this birthday taught me something trueā
Not everyone who calls brings warmth with them too.
Some people bring flowers, some bring pain,
Some leave a smile, some leave a stain.
And I've learned that love isn't measured by who calls,
Or who remembers, or who complains the most.
It is measured by the people who quietly stay,
Who make your ordinary moments brighter every day.
So yes, my birthday is precious to me.
It is my little celebration of being me.
And I'll protect that happiness, come what may,
Because I deserve to enjoy my favourite day.
You may have your complaints, your stories, your side,
But I won't let them live inside my happiness anymore.
I'll remember the love that made me smile,
And let the bitterness stay outside my door.
Because one thing I've finally come to know
Not every relative feels like family,
and not every family member knows how to love.
