Rant Genuinely got mortified on my first day of high school

Here is the story. (I have been homeschooled since I was in 3rd so my only concept of school was elementary and I go to a magnet school so I have programs) So I get on the bus and immediately overhear that the high school prom queen who is a senior dated a freshman, got pregnant, put it up for adoption, and finally cheated on him with his friend. (Mind you this is within 10 minutes btw.) Then we finally get to my new school and I find my new locker and put my combination in. After that, I got to my auto program (the school has two full auto shops and the school is basically a trade school) and we did some preliminary stuff like shop rules. Then I went to pre algebra and they gave out the worst quiz of all time and gave us a calculator and then gave us a quiz about her. The first question was how old is she (if you mess up you will basically be calling her old) and the rest of the questions were easy. Went to english and realized that I'm not supposed to be in english and quickly went to French. During French everyone was pretty nice but after French and I was going to english, I saw another freshman victim to the "my friend likes you" and mourned him knowing he wouldn't survive. I went to english for 30 minutes and then we had our lunch break. When I picked what I want the cafeteria worker SLAMMED my food onto the tray and said "eat before you starve" then I went to pay and got met with a old lunch lady who was impatient as hell and I was trying to log onto Myschoolbucks and it finally went through. Now since I was homeschooled I didn't exactly have friends that go to my school so I picked a table and ate. Now my locker is extremely tiny and can barely fit my backpack (no backpacks outside of the lockers) and I only had 5 minutes to get from class to class so over time since I didn't have time to put stuff in my locker, it all piled up and finally I put it in my locker when I finally had the time. And finally I had my last subject. Auto again. So when I was fixing my backpack I realized that one of the straps got caught into someone else's locker so they had to open it and it finally got fixed. Went to auto and there were only two girls there and all boys like me and the two girls both looked like they want to shank me. During auto they constantly talked about how cute the new freshman are (I'm a freshman) and when we were discussing safety glasses and how you can put safety goggles over your glasses people realized I was the ONLY person with glasses on so EVERYONE in the class stared at me INCLUDING the girls that looked like they wanted to shank me. Finally got done and I went home. The end.

Rant Year 12 National Exam Results: 34% Pass Rate Following Curriculum Changes and War Disruptions

We just got our Year 12 national exam results back, and the pass rate is completely insane: only 40,000 out of 117,000 students passed.

For context, our school year was completely disrupted. We lost 2 to 3 months of classes because of the US-Iran conflict and the threat of drones flying over us, on top of about two weeks of normal holidays. Expecting students to pass a national exam after missing months of school due to a literal security crisis is crazy. Did anyone else’s year group get hit this hard?

To make matters worse, this was the exact year they decided to change the entire system. They announced that Arabic and our native language exams would now directly impact our overall GPA. Knowing full well that most of us don't speak fluent Arabic, they handed us an Arabic exam that absolutely whooped our ass

Expecting us to adapt to a brand new grading system and pass a brutal exam in a language we barely know after losing months of school to a security crisis is crazy.

Plus online school is a 10/10 fail.

General Advice Needed/Given School is giving me anger issues

So normally I am a very happy person. But when a school year starts I get more pissed off and more hateful towards anything. I crash out at the slightest things, get incredibly pissed at slight inconveniences that I normally wouldn't mind. I was even hateful enough to want to see my teacher gutted, I cried out of anger at home and right now even thinking about starting my second year is enough to ruin my mood and make me mad enough to cry. How do i fix or prevent ts? I don't want to have anger issues this year

Rant The life of a highschool nobody

I have Snapchat, with one person added. I’m in two group chats on messages. No personal instagram or TikTok. I go to school and make casual convo with my teachers or desk mates. I don’t eat lunch, and do my homework in the library instead.

I used to be bullied in middle school for being a lesbian, but I’ve now become an absolute nobody. Nobody bothers me. Nobody goes out of their way to make conversation. I just exist.

I don’t get invited to parties, I haven’t hung out with someone outside of clubs/sports since June. In hindsight it's sad. But I don't have anybody to ask. my old friends are too immature and it's hard to be around people that make sex jokes *constantly*. The "normal" kids already have their cliques. And nobody gets near the popular kids. So I just stay where I am. In my place. As a nobody.

I make it work. But I hope college will be a fresh start, where everyone's new and doesn't know who I am or what happened to me in middle school. All I can do is hope.

Question Is this creepy or nah?

So today was the first day back to school and we got some new teachers among other things we are going to be having p.e at a different location, alongside a group of seniors.

And the teacher basically told us that for a grade (I think) we are going to have to dance with them. Idk I think its a little weird since we're 16/15 and they're like 19.

Plus the teacher also said we cant, in general, wear tank tops or shorter shorts to p.e. (my school doesnt have any dresscode) because its a distraction or smth...

I mean idk do yall think this is weird, or am I just looking at it the wrong way. I really have no idea.

Rant Super embarrassed during lockdown drill

So my school decided to just have a lockdown drill today after fourth period, and told everybody over an announcement. Except, my school’s announcement bells and class bells sound the same, so me and my three other friends just up and left and starting walking upstairs (we had to go from first floor to third). We were lwk yapping the whole time until my friend mentioned that the hallway was super empty, so I started listening to the announcement that was playing and all I heard was lockdown. Then we had to run down the flight of stairs and try banging on the door of our last class, but it was already locked. Like at that point we were all kinda tweaking. Then we try to hide in the bathrooms, where we split up into two and two bc half were guys. My friend and I were still being slow and got into the same stall and stood on top of the toilet seat because that’s what all the videos say, but then some girl washing her hands went “yk it’s a drill right?” Once she says it we both just start laughing because we were like so scared for nothing. Then I texted the guys and told them. Bro we were too ashamed to go back to class, so we literally waited like a minute after the real bell rang to go back into the hallway it was so bad. Second week as a freshman btw, so this is just looking pretty bleak guy.

School Related My first day of highschool was very disappointing

I got there like 30 minutes early and just played some block blast and some offline games for a while. Then they started calling us in and I saw a guy I knew from middle school, we weren't exactly friends but we were on good terms then my homeroom teacher called me in, when I got to the class I was the absolute last guy to get there. He had to pull out a worn down desk for me in the very front row.

Rant Poetry is the worst topic I have ever had compared to all the topics and all subjects I ever had in my school (I accept opinions against this)

Look, I know poetry would be interesting to learn, but me and my classmates just don't get on it.

  1. The language in poems is way too confusing, and we usually don't get it when we read it at the 1st time. We have it on English literature, and English is not my native language. The teacher explains what is trying to say, and I sometimes understand, but still, is confusing.

  2. The literary devices. They make the text richer, but in practice they just feel like a list to memorize.

  3. PEAs. If you don't know what it is, is Point, Evidence and Analysis. It's a paragraph that their structure is obligatory that you should follow, but that only cuts creativity, and every single answer just ends to be too repetitive, even if the poem changes.

I might know some people like poetry, but this just doesn't connect with me and my classmates. What is your opinion on poetry? And what do you think I am saying? You agree or disagree?

Class Advice Needed/Given UPDATE: I thought I wouldn’t have this teacher again in Year 9

Original post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/highschool/comments/1vm9u7s/teacher_keeps_singling_me_out_and_making/

I wanted to give an update now that Year 9 has started.

Before the school year began, I went to school to pick up my uniform. I was told that this teacher would be my joint PE teacher and that he would not be teaching my English/Reading classes anymore. I was honestly pretty relieved because I was hoping to have some distance from the situation I described in my original post. I was also reassured that there wasn't anything to worry about because he would only be teaching PE.

Then Year 9 started, and I found out that he is actually my form tutor, Reading teacher and PE teacher.

When my friends first told me, I genuinely thought they were just messing around with me since I had already told them about the situation, and I had been told he would only be teaching PE. Then he walked into the classroom and introduced himself as our form tutor, and I realized they were actually serious.

For some context, English became more difficult for me after he took over the class later in the year. Before that, I was generally getting A's in English. My results dropped afterward, although I know that doesn't necessarily mean the teacher caused the change. Reading was also difficult for me at first when he was my Reading teacher, but I did work on it and eventually improved, going from a D to a B overall.

What bothers me most isn't simply getting lower grades. I'm completely fine with strict teachers, losing marks when I make mistakes, or being told that my work needs improvement. What I have a problem with is feeling like I was sometimes being singled out or spoken to sarcastically when I was genuinely trying to improve. He would constantly make sarcastic comments, sometimes in front of the class and sometimes privately to me, like “The whole class is waiting for you” and “You were doing your own thing.”

I'm not asking for special treatment, easier work, or higher grades. I just want fair grading, clear feedback and basic respectful communication.

My parents are aware of the situation, and I've also spoken with someone at school about it, although they don't know every detail of what happened.

For now, I'm going to try to approach Year 9 differently and not assume that everything will be the same as last year. I'll focus on my work and see how things go. If the same problems continue, I'll speak to my parents and a trusted adult at school rather than just keeping it to myself.

I still don't hate school itself. There are plenty of things I enjoy about it, especially spending time with friends and making new experiences. I just wasn't expecting to start Year 9 and find out that the teacher I thought I was finally getting some distance from is now my form tutor and Reading teacher as well.

For anyone who read my original post, or anyone who is new and just reading this, what would you do in this situation? Would you just try to work with the teacher normally and see how the year goes, or would you speak to a trusted adult if the same behavior continued?

I also want to thank everyone who gave me advice on the original post. I really appreciate it.

Just to be clear, I'm open to questions about this, but please keep the comments respectful.

Question ib students in india?

Post image
2 Upvotes

HII!! I'm a 10th grader currently in ICSE in the middle of my midterms (kolkata) and was interested in shifting to ibdp next year, so I just had a few questions!

  1. is IB in india worth it? — I saw some posts where some schools had under qualified teachers, really shitty systems and was hoping it's a little better than how they described it

  2. how different is it from the general indian boards like icse, cbse, all that? — i know its different and some people say it's "much harder" but idk!

  3. when do school years start? — for usual schools in other boards it starts in April, is it the same?

  4. what do you tell people when someone asks you "what's your stream?" because you just choose a combo of subjects right so how do you even explain it to someone 😭

  5. my parents were fully ready for the change but they were just worried that "what if you don't get any chance abroad" and although I think the chance for that is pretty low, what do you do in that case? do Indian universities accept ib like that? wouldn't you have to take a gap year and study for JEE and all that if you really couldn't go abroad after IB?

any other general advice is appreciated :D

Rant I had my first day of school..

It was boring as usual. Teachers did the usual things. Introduce themselves, the class introduced, straightforward things. Already some people are judging, saying cringe, corny whatever. So it didn't go well. I don't understand why people are just so judgmental. I can't even be myself without getting judged. So as for the first day it didn't go well. Hope y'all have a good school year...

General Advice Needed/Given What can I do for my Senior year??

I was confused what to write for this since I don’t really use Reddit and this is like my first post but I wanted some extra eyes and people telling me what I could do to make my Senior year memorable.

So, I’m currently a Junior for the school year and I just wanted to know some things I could plan or go to for my Senior year to make it memorable while also being affordable. These past few years for me, I felt I have been floating around with these kind of things and never really invested or involved myself in things relating much too much to my school but I want to change that, even if it’s for one school year.

I don’t mind any type of advice, like going to school events, what types of activities to get into, and more. I’ve been eyeing what I could do so I’m just a little nervous and overthinking. I won’t even mind advice on things I could do right now, it’s just been eating me internally and I just wanted to get it out because I’m a horrible over-thinker. Hope o did this correctly because I’m even second guessing posting this but I just wanted some advice.

Class Advice Needed/Given Tired of always being the “leftover” person in group assignments

I’m honestly getting really tired of group assignments at school.

Whenever the teacher lets us choose our own groups, everyone immediately picks their friends. And somehow I almost always end up being one of the people nobody picked, so I get stuck joining whatever group still has space.

It’s frustrating because it keeps happening over and over again. I don’t necessarily expect everyone to choose me first, but being consistently treated like the backup option really starts to get to you.

The worst part is that group assignments are supposed to be collaborative, but when you’re already starting the assignment feeling unwanted or like you’re just filling a spot, it makes the whole thing more exhausting.

Does anyone else deal with this? How do you handle being the person who always seems to get left out when groups are chosen?

PS: I normally get in a group of people that either doesn't work, or have a disorder (Autism). I am tired of this, normally my classmates quickly goes to their friend group, I cant hold for this long.

Rant I’m stressed about a grade 11 schedule that isn’t even out yet (I’m an Ontario student in Canada!!)

Basically, my friend told me a few days ago that there’s this hack to get your schedule early. She said it worked for her last year, and it showed our courses and teachers’ names too (this was on D2l but it doesn’t work anymore once all the students tried to do it💀)

It showed all the courses I have ever taken in high school, including the course code, course name, and teacher. I typed it in and saw three of my Grade 11 courses, but not the rest. I saw Biology, Psychology, and Religion. I’m assuming my fourth course is my e-learning class, which I’m not too worried about.
I texted my friend, and she said those are most likely my Semester 1 classes. In conclusion, I’m pretty sure I have a relatively chill Semester 1, aside from Biology. I’ve heard Biology is relatively easy when you review frequently.

I’m scared because I chose rather difficult courses for Grade 11 because I want to study healthcare in university. That means my Semester 2 could be packed with English, Functions, Chemistry, and French.

I’m scared that there’s nothing guidance can do about it because that’s what my English teacher told me today. I volunteered at my school before school starts next week, so I saw him there. Everyone keeps talking about how scary this semester sounds, and it seems impossible to get a 90+ average. That’s my goal for this year, but I feel like I’m already losing hope because of the intense workload.

I’m also scared because Grade 11 marks actually matter this year. I’ve heard a lot of scary stories about how difficult Grade 11 can be, and honestly, it’s making me nervous.

I can say that I’m a pretty diligent student. My teachers are happy with my work, and I got a 93 average in Grade 10, so I hope that’s good enough.
I’m also a very anxious person in general when it comes to grades. I want to make sure I protect my mental health along the way and don’t completely overwhelm myself.

I just wanted some advice from someone who has had the same experience as me, or something similar. I would also really appreciate any study tips, advice on coping with the workload, or help creating a good after-school study schedule.
I want to do well, but I also want to protect my mental health along the way. :)

Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you! :)

(Mods pls don’t remove🙏😭 this is my only hope)

School Related Need help with getting to school in japan

Upvotes

I am planning on becoming a lawyer in japan ik rough right, but I have been wanting this since I was a child, but enough about me, I was wondering how someone could do that if they were in the US? Is there any programs that could be done online or something to help prepare I really dont know how to get to there and my guidance counselor doesn't get paid enough for me to think I should ask.
