I have stopped feeling hungry. Like even if I have not eaten anything whole day then also I don't feel hungry. I eat by watching the time so as to follow the routine but Hunger feeling is missing from by lifestyle.

Seeking Advice 42M, 6'1", 306 lb, HbA1c 6.7% — Is IF/OMAD actually the right tool for me?

I'm 42M, 6'1" (185 cm), around 138 kg / 306 lb, South Asian, and my latest HbA1c is around 6.7%.

I'm trying to lose a large amount of weight while preserving/building muscle and improving my metabolic health.

I've been reading a lot about 16:8, 18:6, 20:4 and OMAD, but I'm struggling to figure out whether fasting would actually be useful in my situation or whether I'm overthinking it.

For people who have successfully lost a large amount of weight with IF:

  • What fasting schedule did you actually use?
  • Did you eventually move toward OMAD?
  • Did fasting make calorie control easier for you, or did you simply eat the same calories in a smaller window?
  • How did you get enough protein while fasting?
  • Did you do resistance training while fasted or during your eating window?
  • Did you notice meaningful changes in blood glucose/HbA1c?
  • Did you have problems with hunger, overeating, energy, sleep or training performance?
  • If your goal was both fat loss AND muscle retention, would you choose 16:8, 18:6, 20:4 or OMAD?

Most importantly:

If you were 42, 6'1", 306 lb, with an HbA1c around 6.7%, would you use IF/OMAD as the foundation of your plan—or would you simply use a calorie deficit with 2–3 high-protein meals?

I'm looking for long-term experiences rather than "I lost 10 lb in two weeks" stories.

Thanks!

Discussion My August in review - 1 extended fast, 26 IFs, 518 fasting hours

It was a good month for me - one extended fast (Jul 27-Aug 6) and the rest were IFs. A few observations

  • I'm quite disciplined on weekdays, not so much on weekends
  • Parties and BBQs mess things up quite a lot, what a surprise 😄
  • Tracking everything makes the trends easy to see (though it's quite an effort)

And one funny math thing - I averaged 17.3 fasting hours per day, but the average fast length was 24.5 hours (that's what mixing one extended fast with IFs does to an average).

How was your August?

Discussion 30/36 hour water fast

My daily habits are 20:4 IF and keto. This weekend, I went out with friends and ate and drank like an animal. I haven’t gone out to eat and drink alcohol this much in 6 months, but I’ve been loosening my diet for the past 2 weeks since I’ve reached my first body fat percentage milestone.

I decided to do a 36 hour fast to quickly get back to ketosis. About an hour after my last meal yesterday, I did intense weightlifting. Today at noon, I did another gym session fasted. In the morning, I had two cups of Americano, my first time making one since I always prefer a flat white. I’m now at my 30th of 36 hour fast, in bed, excited to wake up tomorrow to eat. I also reached 14k steps today.

I’m pretty proud of myself as this was almost a cakewalk. While I did get hungry occasionally, nothing a bottle of water couldn’t solve. I’m just reminiscing back in the days, I would get very hungry and lightheaded if I work out fasted. When I started with my IF journey (18:6 no keto), I felt super hungry and weak 4 hours after my last meal, and look at me now about to finish my first 20+ hour fast.

First of all, I'd like to thank everybody who has been following and keeping up with my progress. I'd also like to thank those that have commented words of encouragement, and to those that are just reading my post for the first time. What a year... This past year has been full of ups and downs. I can't believe I lost all this weight. I feel very good. One heck of a chapter this was in my life. I began my weight loss back in August 24th of 2025. I began doing OMAD, and low carb, low sugar, high protein. I eventually transitioned to 16:8 intermittent fasting. I began exercising almost every other day and incorporated walking into my days. My weight loss recently slowed down due to having two jobs. It's hard to make time for a full workout, and even harder to get the steps in but I'm not going to let this push me back. I will keep going. Emotionally, I am doing much better. There are some things that I must let go, things that are out of my control, and so I must now do some soul searching. This will most likely be my last post on here. But I will continue to lurk and cheer on the ones that continue to share their journey, and to those that are just starting. Thank you all for sharing your posts. It's encouraging to see everyone doing their best and seeing the results. Please don't ever be discouraged by a setback or falling. You can always get up and start again. You are powerful. If I could do it, you can too. Oh, and by the way, this chapter may be over for me, but my adventure keeps going. I will continue to lose weight. This wasn't my end goal. I plan on getting down to 220lbs. I may come back to show you all. But until then, please be well. Take care of yourselves. Please believe in yourselves. Be kind to yourselves. You can do anything.

Sincerely,

Victor S.
