Hello everyone! I’m a freshman Electrical Engineering student and I already have a beefy laptop (Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 AI 5070 ti) but I’m looking for something to be able to take to class and use to take notes way easier because the Acer is very bulky and I would like to find an alternatives. Been searching all morning and so far these were the best I could find and wanted to see if you guys thought any stood out or had any other recommendations! The tablet functionality is pretty important to me because I want to use it for math notes and I think that’s the best option. Thanks in advance!

It was working till yesterday, but today when i tried to turn it on, the capslock,fu key,num key and power lights are on but no display and the fan is spinning in full speed. The charging light come on when i conmect it what to do?it is a lenovo ideapad slim3 15ARB8

Is this computer any good? Im mostly gonna use it for my studies but i move around a lot so Ill probably use it for gaming too. Mainly I just wanna play deadlock, which for those who doesnt know what it is, requires about the same performance as CS2 maybe fornite or anything similar too.

My desktop PC died this week and I was looking into getting a new laptop (mac) for college, but decided to just get a windows laptop instead and have it replace my PC too. I don't play a ton of games really just competitive fps titles like Valorant, Deadlock, Apex and Kovaaks. I've heard that games like competitive fps are more CPU dominant than GPU dominant which should be a nice upgrade over my current Ryzen 5 3600, but I'm not entirely sure.

Does anyone know if the laptop can run these games fine, along with something like Genshin Impact that would be heavier on the GPU maybe? I'm not looking for like 300+ fps but just a stable 100+ on easy titles like valorant and just let Genshin run smoothly with high graphics, it could be 30 or 60fps for all I care.

I also am hooking it up to a 360hz monitor when I'm actually playing games if that matters?

EDIT: I'm specifically looking at the Core Ultra X7 358H processor and Arc B390, I'm also open to other laptops if there is something that sounds better.

Hi everyone! I need some advice because I urgently need a computer and I'm having a hard time finding a good option within my budget. (Just to be transparent: I don't know a lot about laptops, so everything I'm sharing here is based on things I've been reading and researching lately!)

I'm from Cali, Colombia, so prices and availability are very different from the US/Europe. My initial budget is around 400,000 COP (~$100 USD), but I could potentially stretch it to around $200 USD (~700,000–800,000 COP) if it is really worth it. I cannot realistically go much higher than that.

What I need it for:

University/school work (I'm finishing high school and will study Law)

Lots of browser tabs (sometimes 50–100+)

General everyday use

Some light gaming, but gaming is NOT my priority

I currently have an HP All-in-One with a Ryzen 3 4300U, only 4 GB RAM and a 1 TB HDD. It has become extremely slow and freezes frequently, especially with many browser tabs and video calls. I installed Linux Mint, which helped somewhat, but the hardware is still a major limitation.

I originally wanted a laptop that could last me 5–8 years, but I understand that this is probably unrealistic with my current budget. Right now I mainly need something that is clearly better/more usable than my current computer and can serve me for the next few years.

Options I've found so far:

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon — around 820,000–900,000 COP (~$220–250 USD) | 8 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD, Full HD, Intel UHD 620, Windows 11 Pro, Refurbished. (The listing says "i5-8600U", which seems suspicious because I can't find a normal Intel mobile CPU with that exact model number).

Lenovo ThinkPad E490 — 820,843 COP (~$220 USD) | i5-8265U, 8 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD, Full HD, Intel UHD 620, Refurbished. The seller says the battery is guaranteed for only 1–2 hours, although it may last longer. The good thing is that RAM can be upgraded.

Mac Mini Mid-2011 — 400,000 COP (~$100 USD) | Core i7, 16 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD, Windows 10 currently installed (I could install Linux on it instead). The Mac Mini is tempting because it fits my current budget and has 16 GB RAM + SSD, but obviously it isn't portable and I would still need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. I already have an HP All-in-One, but I don't think I can simply use its screen as a monitor for the Mac Mini.

So my main question is: what would you do in my situation?

Would you buy the $100 Mac Mini as a temporary desktop?

Spend up to ~$200 on a used/refurbished ThinkPad/Latitude/EliteBook?

Look for an older business laptop such as a ThinkPad T480/T470, Dell Latitude 5400/5490, HP EliteBook 840, etc.?

Buy something older/cheaper and upgrade the RAM/SSD?

Do something completely different?

I'm specifically looking for used business laptops because I've read that older ThinkPads, Latitudes and EliteBooks can be much better value than very cheap new laptops. I'm also willing to buy something older if it has good Linux compatibility, an SSD, at least 8 GB RAM, and preferably upgradeable RAM.

Important: I'm in Colombia, so please keep in mind that a recommendation that costs $150 in the US might cost significantly more here.

Any advice on specific models, CPU generations I should look for, models I should avoid, or what would be the best use of ~$100–200 in my situation would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for a new laptop in Germany with a budget of around €600–800.

My main use will be university/everyday work, Lightroom and some casual DaVinci Resolve editing. I don't need a workstation or a hardcore gaming laptop, but I'd like enough graphics performance to handle occasional video editing comfortably.

What I'm looking for:

• 14–16" display
• Preferably under/around 2 kg
• Solid build quality
• 16 GB RAM minimum, 32 GB would be great
• 512 GB SSD minimum
• Good display, preferably 100% sRGB or better
• Good battery life — ideally around 7–10 hours for normal use
• No bulky/heavy gaming laptops

For graphics, I've mainly been looking at laptops with stronger iGPUs like Intel Arc 130V/140V and AMD Radeon 780M/860M or better.

I'm not limited to integrated graphics, though. If there's a laptop with a dedicated GPU that still has decent battery life, good build quality and isn't too bulky, I'm definitely interested.

I'm also open to older-generation models, if they offer better value.

My priorities are basically:

Performance > Build > Battery life > Weight

I'm not fixed on any particular CPU or brand. I mainly want the best overall laptop for €600–800 without sacrificing build quality and battery life just to get more performance.

Any recommendations or models I should keep an eye on?

Hey Laptop Community! I need some help picking out a laptop from Costco for my specific needs. My needs are nothing crazy, I need a personal laptop that can handle my home needs and small business needs. I’m looking to launch a small business, nothing crazy, just selling my art. I will not be doing digital art on this laptop but I need to ability to edit pictures, create a website, manage socials, etc etc, pretty low lift, nothing crazy.

I don’t want to spend a TON of money on a laptop for this but I don’t have a personal laptop at home, only my work laptop, so I believe it’s a good investment.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for what Costco currently offers? Looking to spend between $500-$1,000.

Hi, I desperately need advice about my laptop. I purchased a yoga slim 7 exactly a year ago, my warranty expired 30 days ago and yesterday I woke up to my laptop completely dead. I took it to a computer repair shop and he said he thinks the motherboard is blown from heat issues (the day before i was on the computer all day, nothing crazy just doing school work) I take really good care of my laptop, no spills or injuries could have caused this.

The repair guy recommended i renew my warranty and wait the 60 days and send my computer in, but will I have to pay for a new laptop then? Should I give up and just get a new laptop? I'm so upset. I'm a college student and I rely on my laptop for all of my school work and homework, so i'm rushing to find a solution so I can keep working.

If anyone has any advice or recommendations please let me know. If anyone is thinking about buying a yoga laptop, please keep in mind that too much stress can brick the computer. I wouldn't recommend this laptop to anyone else. School just started a couple weeks ago and this is such a bad time for this to happen.

Laptop Info: - Model: GF63 Thin 11UC-1474IN - CPU: Intel 11th Gen i5-11260H - Charger Output: 20V - 6A - Can't be charged through USB C

My laptop was dropped from the bed about a year ago. Since then, the charging port has been loose and the charger only worked when held in a specific position.

Today, before plugging in the charger to laptop, part of the charger cable was accidentally under my chair. I removed it and then plugged it into the laptop. After some time, I noticed a burning smell, but I initially thought it was coming from somewhere else. Suddenly, I saw smoke, and when I checked the charger, I found that the cable right beside the DC plug had melted.

The part of the cable that was under the chair is not the part that melted. After sometime I connected the charger again and there is no indication of charging from laptop.

Now I want to know:

• Has anyone experienced something similar and what happened in your case and how you fixed it?

• What could have caused the cable to melt near the DC plug?

• Could the loose charging port from the previous drop be responsible?

• What should I get checked/replaced — just the charger, or the laptop's DC jack/charging circuit as well?

• Roughly how much could this repair cost?

Edit: - The laptop is being charged with hp's 65W charger. - I connected my charger again, it smell's like melting right behind the plug quickly. - Now can I cut the plug at the end and replace it with another? Will it work out?
