General question My laptop charger puts out power at my dormitory

Hello, I have a little problem as said in the title. I have a really powerful second hand customised laptop and the charger puts down power on many rooms(not always but most of the time) It doesn't happen at home and other places I have been to it just happens here. The charger is for Lenovo 230W. Is there any way I can prevent this?

Discussion I bought a €1,200 laptop and now I can’t stop thinking there’s something better

I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 16 Gen 10, but I can't stop thinking that there might be something better

So I recently ordered a Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 16 Gen 10 (AMD) for around €1,200 in Austria, and it should arrive in about 20 days.

The specs are:

  • Ryzen AI 7 350
  • 32GB LPDDR5X RAM
  • 1TB SSD
  • 16" 2880×1800 OLED
  • 120Hz
  • Radeon 860M
  • 84Wh battery
  • Physical numpad
  • Windows laptop

I mainly need it for school, programming, browsing, YouTube/movies and general everyday use. I already have a gaming PC, so I don't really need a gaming laptop.

My requirements were basically:

  • Windows
  • Physical numpad
  • OLED + high refresh rate would be great
  • Good battery life
  • Good build quality
  • Something that can realistically last around 5 years
  • Around €1,200, with €1,400 being the absolute upper range if there is a significant improvement
  • I'm buying in Austria, so US prices aren't very useful to me

On paper, the IdeaPad Pro seems really good for the price, especially because of the OLED 120Hz display, 32GB RAM and 84Wh battery. Current Austrian listings are around €1,200 as well.

But now I have buyer's remorse before the laptop has even arrived.

I keep looking at other laptops and thinking:

"Maybe there was something better for €1,200?"

"Maybe I should have spent €1,400?"

"Maybe the IdeaPad has some major weakness I missed?"

"What if I find a much better laptop after it arrives?"

I've already spent way too much time comparing laptops and I genuinely can't tell anymore whether I'm being reasonable or just overthinking it

So, if you were buying a laptop in Austria right now for around €1,200–1,400, with a physical numpad and 32GB RAM being important, would you choose something other than the IdeaPad Pro 5?

I'm especially interested in actual alternatives that are available in Austria, rather than something that's only a good deal in the US.

And please be brutally honest. If I made a good choice, tell me that. If there is actually something significantly better, I'd rather know that.

Thank you

Buying help Help me pick a laptop I’m overwhelmed with options a :(

Hi so my macbook pro 2020 is giving up badddd, it barely charges, my screen panel broke twice after repairing it once and it’s just incredibly slow. I’ve had it for 6 years now I will admit.

I’m looking to get another laptop now but I’m so overwhelmed with options. I don’t want to spend more than $850 on a refurbished laptop, and I need something faster, I’m in the U.S.

I work in marketing so I have to download videos and graphics + edit with multiple tabs open. I also like to DJ as a hobby so I run softwares like Rekordbox and use photoshop for example. I also work in research so yeah just multiple tabs and zoom meetings usually though atm I’m going to be unemployed soon but will be using a lot of tabs still.

I’m also gonna start grad school soon, yeah basically I just need more storage and faster speeds, something that doesn’t have a bad battery life and lasts around the same as this laptop did.

I’m hesitant on going back to apple because the prices are frustrating and I don’t understand the new chips or anything. Not to get too political on here but I also don’t support the fact that it’s been designed in Israel, I also just feel like apple making it harder to repair laptops sucks like I know my display is messed up because of the flex wire but I would have to replace the entire screen again to fix just that one wire.

Anyway yeah, apple OS is so good though, the design is easy and sleek. I want something kind of simple like that but not sure what to do thanks.

Hardware IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 CPU drops to 0.40 GHz on battery – motherboard already replaced

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 (Ryzen 7 5800H).

On AC power, the CPU runs normally at around 3–4 GHz. As soon as I disconnect the charger, it drops to exactly 0.40 GHz and the laptop becomes extremely slow.

What I have tried:

- Two genuine Lenovo batteries

- BIOS updated: H3CN49WW V3.07 / EC 1.49

- Processor power settings checked (100%)

- Motherboard was replaced by Lenovo

- Same issue returned within 24 hours

Battery details in Lenovo Vantage show 45Wh design/full capacity and only 5 cycles.

AC: ~4.19 GHz

Battery: ~0.40 GHz

Has anyone with the IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6 experienced this exact issue?

Discussion Lenovo ideapad slim 3 vs MacBook Neo

Hello,

Im going to start with university and I need a new laptop. I was debating between the LENOVO IdeaPad Slim 3 15AMN8 for 440 euro's and Apple MacBook Neo (2026) A18 Pro for 700 euro's.

I dont need a laptop which can run heavy software, just mosty for research and using word and powerpoint and maybe a lil excel. I wanted a laptop which was mostly easy to take with me so not to big and a long battery life, which the MacBook Neo both have. Only problem is that its so much more expensive and even though it has features that I want I dont know if it is worth the extra money.

Any other recommendations for laptops are also welcome!

Buying help 2-in-1 device suggestions

I need a new work device soon (next month preferably) and I was hoping for some suggestions. Currently, I have a 4yo Surface Laptop Studio 2-in-1 (i7 and RTX A2000 dGPU) and I really like that kind of solution. Unfortunately, there's no SLS3 and the SLS2 is quite old. I use it both in laptop mode, tablet mode and connected to docking stations with external monitor etc. So, the new device also needs to be a 2-in-1 or convertible. It should also have Panther Lake, and with the Arc B390 it shouldn't need a dGPU. I've read about the Nvidia RTX Spark chipset, but I'm not sure I'm ready to go ARM yet (again). I'm flexible when it comes to size and weight but the screen should be 13-16". Thunderbolt connectivity is a big plus. Thank you 🙂

Discussion Is it worth spending a total of ₹10,000 to change the keyboard module on a 2024 ASUS TUF F15?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I plug it in and power it on while holding down a keyboard key, it works perfectly. However, the moment I release that key, the laptop immediately turns off.

I contacted the service center, and they said the keyboard module needs to be replaced. When I asked if I could use an external keyboard instead, they told me it wouldn't power on because the power button and the keyboard share a single ribbon cable layout.

General question Lenovo Aura laptop BDPROCHOT

Thing was working fine. Then i noticed orange led on the side was blinking on a rhythm. Asked gemini on what could it be, it said take power cord out and press hold power button for 40 sec.

After that laptop just became painfully slow. ThrottleStop shows BDPROCHOT flag checked, and is greyed out. Shows this flag in limit as well.

Hardware Is it worth to upgrade a decade old laptop?

So I got my hands on a Lenovo IdeaPad G500 20236 (2013) in a pretty good condition (not dirty, has a decent battery life), here are it's specs:

Intel Pentium 2020m (with Intel HD Graphics)

4 GB of DDR3 1600 MHz RAM (1 stick and there are two slots)

500 GB of a really slow HDD

It boots up with an ok speed, web browsing and light work with Word docs is manageable, but tbh I'm a really patient person, I've been using a PC that's almost as old as me for the most of my life and I'm used to computers being slow, so probably this laptop's performance is worse than I describe.

I already have a really good PC (well, at least it's more than enough for me) so reviving this laptop isn't really necessary, but having a laptop in a university is probably way more convenient than using a huge PC.

I'm planning on buying another 4 GB RAM stick, switching to an SSD and installing Linux instead of Win 8 (also can y'all please recommend some lightweight distros that are not too hard to set up) but idk if it will make a huge difference. So what do y'all think, should I upgrade it or nah?

General question Little bit water leaked onto my laptop

Hello.

I had my Lenovo laptop in a separate section of my backpack. My water battle leaked and I had hoped that it didn't get wet but as soon as I checked the display protector fabric it was a bit moist so my laptop came in contact with a bit of water. (The bottle leaked up to 100-200ml in general in the other section of my backpack. I think it might be even less idk.)

My questions now are:

  1. What do I do now to reduce the risk of damage?

  2. Should I even be worried? It's not like I soaked it in water as it was in a separate section of my backpack and I think most of the water was in the rest of the bag and the fluff that protects the laptop in the separate section

- NVIDIA RTX 500 Ada 4GB + Intel Arc iGPU

- 512GB Storage

Price: RM3,000 (~$745 USD), and it still has 18 months warranty left. Is this a good deal?

Buying help macbook neo or air?

hi everyone, i’m not sure if this would be considered a recommendation but i just need help choosing between the two.

my 13” macbook air recently broke and it would cost $600 to fix, which is about the same price as the 512gb neo after my student discount (recent grad). my family member thinks that i should get another air with at least 1tb, but that would be double the price.

the main things i use my laptop for are casual functions, job searching, entertainment purposes, photo editing in lightroom, and downloading sewing patterns to print.

i would like to stick with mac and between these options. i technically can afford either one but i would prefer not to spend the extra money. i really wanted the neo but i don’t want to screw over future me and im unsure if ill end up needing my personal laptop for future work opportunities.

what are your thoughts?

Buying help How good is the HP - OmniBook 3 16" 2K Touchscreen Laptop - Intel Core Ultra 5 (2025) - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD?

I’m looking to buy this for extended use, and it’s for only $630 for Labor Day. I’m mainly gonna use it for school, and maybe some light performance steam/browser games on the side, although it’s not a priority. Is it worth? Are there any issues I should know about?

Hardware msi charger cable melted near connector

Laptop Info: - Model: GF63 Thin 11UC-1474IN - CPU: Intel 11th Gen i5-11260H - Charger Output: 20V - 6A - Can't be charged through USB C

My laptop was dropped from the bed about a year ago. Since then, the charging port has been loose and the charger only worked when held in a specific position.

Today, before plugging in the charger to laptop, part of the charger cable was accidentally under my chair. I removed it and then plugged it into the laptop. After some time, I noticed a burning smell, but I initially thought it was coming from somewhere else. Suddenly, I saw smoke, and when I checked the charger, I found that the cable right beside the DC plug had melted.

The part of the cable that was under the chair is not the part that melted. After sometime I connected the charger again and there is no indication of charging from laptop.

Now I want to know:

  • Has anyone experienced something similar and what happened in your case and how you fixed it?

  • What could have caused the cable to melt near the DC plug?

  • Could the loose charging port from the previous drop be responsible?

  • What should I get checked/replaced — just the charger, or the laptop's DC jack/charging circuit as well?

  • Roughly how much could this repair cost?

Edit: - The laptop is being charged with hp's 65W charger. - I connected my charger again, it smell's like melting right behind the plug quickly. - Now can I cut the plug at the end and replace it with another? Will it work out?
