At what point do you seek a medically assisted detox or an addiction center?

I have been abusing thc gummies for a while and have realized how addicted I am. I only take them at night and not even full amounts most nights. I recently tried to quit and broke down and caved on day 5. I attempted to return to my normal nightly doses but the anxiousness and panic presumed and sent me spiraling for days. Today I had some suicidal thoughts that really shocked me. That scared me so bad I started researching into care to help me detox and regain my life. I don’t think I can do this by myself. I have a 9 night work trip overseas and I am terrified of being hostage to my addiction in that setting. I need to admit I’ve lost and seek the help I need

Can an addiction care center or medical detox really help me?

Nicotine

Hello everyone!!!

Is there a sub for users quitting nicotine?

This sub has gotten me almost 1 month as of Friday THC free after 13 years of consistent use.

This is giving me the energy and capacity to start kicking my nicotine habit.

Thank you in advance!!!

Extremely tired after quitting: anyone else?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask whether anyone has had a similar experience to me when quitting.

To give a bit of context: I am 30/F, been smoking since my 15th, almost daily since my 18th. After having a bad anxiety attack over 2 years ago, I switched to smoking only hash. I had many unsuccesful attempts at quitting before this, always picking it back up after a few days or weeks. But I've carried the desire to quit completely with me for years now. Because what started as a way to deal with social anxiety (ironic right?), an outlet for creativity and a way to self-medicate my depression, ended up being an impediment to making personal progress and growth.

I have used a recent trip abroad as a jumping off point to quit, as I was very active on the trip itself, hoping to push through the habit on my return. So far this has been surprisingly successful, especially because I live in a country where it is legal to smoke and I am surrounded by dispensaries. I only notice pangs of missing it here and there, which I am able to ignore so far.

Contrary to many other posts here, I am able to eat, focus on my hobbies, and I sleep well (with vivid dreams). But I do feel extremely tired, needing additional naps wherever possible. As such, I am wondering whether anyone else has had a similar experience, i.e. whether it is related to quitting and the body processing no longer ingesting THC. Because I am starting to feel that it could be a health issue rather than a side effect of quitting.

Aside from my question, I also want to express my gratitude for this subreddit. I have followed it for many years and have found it very helpful to follow the experiences and trajectories of others in their quitting journey.

Thanks for reading, hope to hear from you!

A recently I completed my fourth year

I had smoked since 1996 and spent most of that time working in the cannabis industry. By the end I was experiencing unbelievably severe anxiety that almost completely went away when I stopped smoking. I would usually stop smoking every year a couple weeks before and during burningman so I could breathe out in the desert. I just liked being able to breathe in general so I kept it going and now here I am

Can’t believe how much vaping was aging me

I’ve been a heavy user of carts for a few years and have been trying to quit. I’ve managed a few long breaks (longest was about 10 weeks) but have slipped a few times. I’m currently 3 weeks THC free after ~2 months of heavy all-day-every-day use.

I’m turning 30 this year & I’m used to people thinking I’m younger than I am, it’s been happening since I was a kid. But I’ve been stressed as hell about how I look this year. It felt like I was aging at a rapid rate & I thought it was genetics catching up to me. My skin looked awful (I’ve been dealing with the worst acne I’ve ever experienced), my hair has been dry and frizzy. But it was more than that too. Not sure what exactly, I just felt like I looked old and haggard. Like the lines on my face were more pronounced.

THREE WEEKS LATER and holy shit. Yesterday was the first time in a long time I’ve looked in the mirror and didn’t feel dread about what I saw. I look so much better😭 My skin is FINALLY clearing up, the dark circles under my eyes are gone & overall I feel I look younger and brighter. Just applying my face sunscreen yesterday I was poking my cheeks bc of how supple the skin felt.

It’s just insane to me how much it was actually affecting how I looked (and also how I perceived myself). I felt like a stranger & hated myself for it.

Anyway, just posting this to remind myself not to go to the dispensary today.

Day 2 after 33 years of daily smoking

I just shit myself. Apparently, your gut gets so used to cannabinoids that once it doesn't have it, it has to completely rewire itself. It's not just the brain fog, or suppressing nightmares, etc - your entire system gets used to relying on a foreign substance to help regulate basic functionality.

I'm never going back to wasting days (years/decades) - and I hope at least one person reading this realizes that there's a lot more going on with this than we'd care to admit.

I used to make excuses, too. Cannabis helped me for a long time, but it isn't without its downsides.

Still very much pro-weed, but not for me any more.

I finally smoked enough. I don't need it any more.

How do you manage the cravings when you get sad/anxious?

I was 5 days in without weed and I smoked half a joint last night, I wasn't even anxious last night but I couldn't stop crying and feeling lonely. I live in AZ so often during the heat I get really down. Now today I feel like I am even more miserable. Question for those out there, how do you push through? Smoking weed gives me anxiety but not smoking it gives me anxiety too. I feel like I am coming off of crack or something : ( lol

I'm so very irritated right now. This weekend I got too fucked up and decided it's time to quit everything. Also I am getting a new job and may be getting a mouth swab Friday.

At this point I'm going insane between wanting to smoke and not wanting to 😭 I keep stopping myself but I literally hate my life without it. Man I hope this gets better.

The only one quitting in a relationship

Today is day 1 for me. Again.

I’ve quit many times & always think I can just “smoke this once,” but before I know it I’m back to daily use.

I want to quit.
I need to quit.
I am quitting.

My partner is heavily addicted & apparently has no interest in quitting.

It’s like the more I ask him to, the more he resists. He’s a stubborn MF.

Leaving him is not an option I want to consider. We have a beautiful life together with kids, a home, business, etc. & are aligned on pretty much everything—except smoking.

He grows it & smokes it & grows it & smokes it.

I started smoking again, in part, because I appreciated feeling connected to him again. Like, really connected.

When I’m not smoking & he is, I find myself irritated with him & start to think of him as a lazy POS even though that isn’t true.

I’m scared to be the only one quitting. I’m scared of what it will do to us because I know I’m going to get irritated, mouthy, & judgmental of him.

I’m curious to hear from other people who might be the only one to quit smoking in the relationship. How did you deal with your partner smoking? Any tips?

I’m not interested in hearing a bunch of people telling me to end things with him because it’s not that simple when you have a life & family together. This is the man I want to grow old with. But I am worried about being the only sober one.

Help. 😭 TIA. 🫶

Impostor syndrome for “only being addicted to weed”

I’m one week weed free today and feeling better than I have in a while! One big barrier for quitting was the false notion that because weed is a lighter drug, a dependence or addiction was not a big deal. No matter what your vice is, if it ticks enough boxes (worsening quality of life, choosing a substance over most other things in life, etc) it should be taken seriously as the problem that it is.
Downplaying my addiction feels so stupid in hindsight, especially considering I have lost jobs/relationships because of weed. A good guideline to follow: if you often find yourself thinking about quitting something but keep doing it, chances are it is bad for you. This applies to substances, relationships and habits.
Recognizing if you have addictive tendencies is also very important. If you have an “addictive personality,” odds are you will always be addicted to something. Especially when you first quit a harmful addiction, be mindful of what you choose to fill that vacuum. Personally I just leaned more into art and climbing.

Day 19 - Round 2 Symptoms

Gave up for the second time 19 days ago and I know for real this time I can never go back. Had been sober for 6 months - so mad at myself for relapsing! Last September I gave up cigs / vapes and weed all at once after daily smoking for over a decade.

Had hoped the withdrawal symptoms wouldn’t be as bad this time since I’d only been smoking weed (no tobacco) for 4/5 months this time, but this week the gastrointestinal stuff has been so fecking annoying.

- have a VERY small appetite (get full so quick and nauseous if I try eat more).
- Heartburn and reflux which then sparks my anxiety and it’s a whole ordeal.
- exhausted very early in the day, even after 7-8 hours sleep
- hyper aware of every body sensation (heart beat/ breathing / my own tongue and swallow )

Now luckily the sleep has been good this time, no bad sweats or insomnia thank god, but the eating stuff is really annoying. Only thing I’m doing to relieve symptoms is mint or ginger tea, and chewable Rennie to relieve the heartburn… but can anyone recommend other solutions? Or even just tell me it will pass!

I had 2 coffees today and learned my lesson - my body is just incapable of processing anything anymore it’s so tiring. Rant over, sorry! Just need to share with people who’d understand.

throwing up and nauseous

Hi everyone, i am on my third day now of not smoking and im struggling with the nausea a lot. I woke up at 2 am and threw up i think just because of work stress and giving up weed. I was wondering if any of you have experienced this and what you did to alleviate it a little bit or what foods you ate. even if you just experienced it I’m feeling pretty sick and wondering how long it will last. Thank you so much, i love this community 😊

Walking myself through throwing away the stuff I just bought

So I just went out and bought weed. I haven't used it. I need to wet it down and throw it away. I just spent $75 on it. But I have to toss it b/c that is the right thing to do. Because I have NEVER been able to "not use." I am going to do this. throw it away. I just want to say that A it sucks and B damn. that is a lot of money a lot of weed to waste. 75 dollars! but I will. C. I need to think long term and remember that this horrible urge to use and rage at the world will abate. I've been rude all day. persnickety. yes, IATAH. I will post in the comments when I have done it. about 2 hrs from now, after work. :-( this sucks

Reasons not to smoke again after a year

I’ll hit a year of no weed on Thursday and have been contemplating trying it again. I miss the big clouds of smoke I get from a bong hit and disconnecting from reality. Previously I smoked for 7 years, up to an 1/8 a day.

I’m saving money from not going to the dispo every other day and am much more emotionally stable and my life isn’t revolving around weed. Ive been single for a while and weed was always there to keep me company.

Can you folks list some reasons why I shouldn’t go back?

Day 3 sober, smoked heavily for 27 years, feeling good but nervous

Y'all are freaking me out. I was daily user, double hitting carts almost every hour, waking up and smoking 3-4 times every night.

First couple days sober I would have intermittent sweats or chills but today I'm feeling pretty good.

At work I would take walks every hour or so to hit carts. Now I'm walking and doing deep breathing and it seems cool for the time being but looking at what everyone here has gone through compared with how heavily I was using... Fuuuuuuuuuuuck.

The dreams haven't come back but that's what I've been dreading. I buckling up.

Day 18 is the hardest, I'm losing my mind

I tried to quit a few times before. This time, I felt like I am gaining nothing and throwing my life away so I quit. After 4 years of smoking every night, I got to a point where I smoked during the day for the past year. I still socialized, worked, did sports. But I was lazy and spent too much time in my comfort zone.

Surprisingly, the first 2 weeks were easy as I kept myself really busy. But I'll be honest - the biggest self-medication factor for me was dumbing down of my ADHD and trauma induced anxiety.

By day 15 I started feeling worse than when I smoked, except for the guilt. My ADHD is worse than ever, anxiety comes in terrible waves. I have been on prescription meds for a few years. And it worked for the last 6 months, up until the last 3 days.

Is this just a withdrawal? I'm just as lazy, feeling guilty and barely able to take care of myself just like when I smoked. I can't concentrate. The only positives are that I can and I started eating more food and almost no junk. So why am I feeling guilty, lazy, useless and like I'm isolating myself from the opportunities in life?

I could use support, pep talk or similar experiences. Hell, I'll even take a motivational success story of yours. Thank you, guys. I promise I won't smoke - not quitting my quitting.

Day 9

I had a really stressful day yesterday. One of my strategies is something I have worked out with my doctor, it really helps. We worked on a prescription that helps with anxiety that I can take for acute anxiety attacks and cravings. I was able to sit with my craving for a while, but when it wouldn't go away I took my medicine. This makes today day 9 after a short relapse.

I appreciate having this community to post to and sometimes offer my experiences, maybe they can help someone else!

Thinking of going to detox/rehab but feel like ppl think I don’t need it cuz it’s just weed

Title says it all. Really think this is truly the only way for me because I have so much coinciding mental illness that goes along with the weed addiction. Anyone have any experience with this?
