I’m curious what material things you realised you no longer need after travelling long term - and do you see yourself living with much less once you settle? Or do you miss some things that it just doesn’t make sense to carry with you?

Same for general comforts - what did you learn about yourself and your comfort needs? Would you be able to continue living this way after you settle?

My wife and I both turn 30 this winter. The last trip we took just the two of us was over 4 years ago to London. Since then we have made a precious few good trips with both of our families but it has been ages since we went anywhere just the two of us.

We're lookin to go somewhere in January or February. We want something that is doable in 5-7 days. We prefer somewhere with at least mild weather, doesn't have to be beach and pool type warmth but at least something that provides relief from US midwestern winter. Must be able to be done on a budget. Say $5k-$6k. So for time and cost reasons we're really looking for North American destinations.

Hit me with your recommendations. Only caveat is that I previously travelled to Mexico City and Oaxaca alone and while I am considering repeating that so my wife can experience it too I'm leaning against for this particular trip.

How do you manage medications, doctor visits, exposure to new environments, not having your comforts and predictability that are often important when we feel unwell?

I used to travel more but that worsened my health and I had to limit it much beyond what I wished for the last 4 years. But I still hope to return to more long term travelling once I improve my health. And in the meantime, would love some inspiration from you!

Hi! I’m 25 years old living in Michigan and I want to radically change my life. I’m tired of the corporate grind and craving adventure, travel, and culture. I’m looking for any advice because I’m overwhelmed and not even sure where to start.

For context, I work in communications. I’m first generation college graduate and very privileged to be making $90k a year, but I’m burnt out and I don’t want to continue living this way. I don’t enjoy what I do and looking to make a difference. Thankfully I have a Roth IRA and nest egg, so I feel comfortable making this change. I know it probably isn’t the best for my long term career, but I would much rather explore the world and feel like I did something that mattered rather than working a soul-sucking job with only 15 days of PTO a year to travel.

Anyways, here are some of my ideas:
- Teach English in Spain under student visa
- Find remote work and get a digital nomad visa
- Peace Corps

I would prefer to be in Europe, but I’m open to any opportunity to be abroad really. I’m just craving adventure. I don’t want to work in communications anymore and this feels like the clean break I need to get some lived experience to figure out what I want to do. I would return to the State at some point and most likely go to graduate school to change careers. I just want to get away for a while and don’t want to wait until I’m retired to see the world.

I (30F, single, no children) would love to take 6 months off from work (looking at 2028 hopefully), either long term unpaid leave or quit altogether, and do some travel. I’ve been working since 14, took a mini break of a few months before my masters but pretty much went straight from undergrad to masters to pgce to teaching and now to the dev. sector. I’m tired. I would love to do this 6 month break earlier but I have other financial priorities that need sorting before I can put aside (what I’m guessing will be) approx £15-20K for this travel.

I’m hoping to do 2.5 months Colombia (potential travel into other places with Colombia as base), 1 month Peru, 2 months Brazil and about 3 weeks Vietnam. Any advice? Anything I should be thinking about now? Does my budget seem reasonable, or completely off?

I was initially thinking to push it to closer to 35 (2030) to allow a bit more career development in this space and more opportunity to build funds. However, I’m conscious that as someone who does eventually want to get married/have children, this might not be something I can do as easily/unburdened/freely so the earlier the better. After all, I can always keep hustling with work later on.

I don't like to talk about my living situation.

I have a good amount of savings from playing online poker. I don't know what to do with my life right now. I live with my mom. I help her out and travel a lot in-between.

I have a university degree but I haven't been able to find work since graduating.

I can either say A) I'm unemployed B) I have savings C) Lie and say I work in IT, which usually works, but then I have to say "I'm on holiday". D) I work online and invest, which leads to too many questions.

If I can trust someone only then I talk about online poker stuff.

I really like connecting with people of all backgrounds. My own situation is just not relatable and I feel uncomfortable when I have to explain myself. Even if I say "I just graduated and I'm looking for job", then they ask "how can you afford to travel so much?"

Usually I find these discussions to be very vague and surface-level, with not many follow-up questions.

So how do you explain your situation if you can just afford to travel long-term?

I’m looking to start a group travel channel while maintaining individual channels involving creating natural, organic content based on the whole group dynamic since the basic travel influencer market is not yielding much results.
I have a few ideas on how the content will look based on the number of people who are serious about creating content and since it’s going to be associated with travel.
People willing to commit to it at least for a few months so as to make it work.
Plus, people who are unhinged and real make content that people actually want to watch, so keep that in mind because I want to create actual content by making opportunities for ourselves rather than providing a scripted narrative.

Been on the road a while now and something keeps standing out.

Almost everyone I run into at campgrounds, rest stops, random trailheads… they’re a lot older than me. Like, properly older. I started talking to some of them and it was the same story over and over:

“I always wanted to do this kind of thing. Just never had the time. Work, family, bills… now that I’m retired I finally can.”

And look, I’m happy for them. For real. It’s nice they made it. But it also sits weird in my chest.

If you can go now… just go.

You’re the youngest you’re ever gonna be. Body’s still working decent. That restless feeling that made you open this subreddit is still alive. Don’t put it on the shelf for “one day.”

Doesn’t have to be some expensive dream trip either. I picked up a van for like three grand and just lived in it while I drove around. Nothing fancy. No Instagram build. Just enough to sleep and keep moving. Worked fine.

Sometimes the only way to figure out what you actually want is to leave the shit you thought you needed behind for a while. Something shifts. Hard to explain until it happens.

Anyway. If you’re sitting there feeling that pull… you already know what I’m talking about.

Over the past few months I have been planning a six month sabbatical from October 2026. I definitely overcomplicated the itinerary (prioritising daily adventure but admittedly too many countries and continents too!)

My planned route is:

Vietnam —> Cambodia —> Laos —> Sri Lanka —> New Zealand —> Fiji —> Colombia —> Panama —> Brasil —> Guatemala —> Belize —> Mexico

I have booked the maturity of flights. I have planned and used ChatGPT to make it logistically efficient. Yet, I am finding it increasingly difficult to incorporate some flexibility into my planning. Does anyone have any advice for long trips? My budget seems to be increasing as well.

For example, I am planning to visit the Colombian Amazon jungle. If I don’t book this now, I can imagine availability and cost to go through the roof! So I struggle to see how to be flexible when it comes to these things. The same goes for domestic flights.

Any advice on how to make the trip relatively stress free, flexible, budget friendly but not miss out on amazing adventures?

I would also appreciate any tips for those countries!

Being right in the center feels way less important when you’re staying a month instead of a weekend.
